But today at the Freeport location, I cruised through their clearance rack and found a dress. Perfect price, perfect fit. So happy I found another great score at my favorite store. Your typical hippy trendy place to go for over priced tie dye and sweatshirts. I wanted three different items all of which were sold out of my size. Was pretty bummed bc the alpaca sweater was actually reasonably priced but no mediums left in any color I wanted. Same thing happened with the mushroom overalls and corduroy overalls. No mediums left! Get there when they first stock up I guess. Place smells like patchouli which is to be expected but I left here empty handed and disappointed as I was ready to spend some money on myself! read more

An interesting shop that sells all sorts of New Age clothes and accessories. If you're looking for tie dye or incense, this is your spot. My Mom would love it, my wife would not. This little place is a great stop while shopping around in Freeport just due to the fact that it is off the beat and path of your typical touristy collectibles that you get on the main road store fronts or the expensive high end items you find in others. My wife and I like to come here because I feel that we are really hippies at heart with the zen and chakras close to our hearts. This little place has many little things that we love ... many different flavors of inscence including my wife's personal favorite Nag Champa. If you want some ecclectic items like buddha dolls for those peaceful decors out there, Mexicali Blues is for you. If you want some tie dye shirts to suffice that inner hippie that we all have hiding in ourselves somewhere, then Mexicali Blues is for you. If you want to fulfill some of your amethyst jewelry and smell like some patchouli then you need to visit Mexicali Blues. If you get my drift with what you can find here at this little shop now, then you will be pleased if that is your cup of tea. The staff is super friendly, I have been to other stores like this in my lifetime and if I walk in with my hat on backwards and didnt fit the mold of the staff working behind the counter, then I was outcasted like a bad batch of hemp. More than likely you will greeted as soon as you walk in and be helped in any direction that you need to go so check it out the next time that you are travelling through Freeport. The staff is always warm, friendly, and helpful. While the prices are not bargains it's not chain box store inventory, rather unique styles with the amazing hippy smell to linger until you break down and wash it. I love going to their Early Bird Sale in November to lasso all my nieces and sister in-law's gifts in one hula hoop. They have tons of decor for all your Zen needs and an incense buffet of every scent. Clothing ranges from adult, child, infant, and men's. Oh, and me and my nieces favorite things- scunchies! This is a great place! You never know what you're going to find. I was very pleased to find a Plus size sections. I didnt know that they had one as most shops of this ilk dont. This is basically a higher version of hippy shop for clothes and things. Lots of Eastern influence items in the jewelry, hair accessories, clothing and decorations, I dont mean like bongs and stuff, like a traditional headshop would have. On December 9 I brought my daughter and 4 of her friends shopping in Freeport, ME for the day. We were celebrating her 16th birthday and were having great day of shopping and fun until we decided to finish at Mexicali Blues. The girls were looking at headbands and hair scrunchies for quite some time. There is a large selection and they we're taking their time picking their favorite colors and styles, trying them on and asking each other for their opinions. I began to notice a male employee watching the girls rather closely. He then went over to another employee (who we later found was the manager) and I could hear them talking about the girls. The manager then circled around behind the girls. The male employee and the manager continued to watch them. I advised the girls to make their selections so we could leave as I felt the employees were watching the girls as for some reason the male employee thinks they are trying to steal. The girls got very upset and quickly picked their headbands. They made their way to the cash register and guess who was at the register staring at us? Yup, the male employee. A loudly said he was being rude. He said, "excuse me, what is rude?" I said, you following these girls around the store, staring at them and talking about them as you felt they were stealing. He stated he was only asking the manager if one of the girls bought the headband she had in her bag. Here's an idea....if you think someone is stealing, ask them! We had about 20 bags between the six of us and we gladly would have opened each bag to show you we had not stolen anything! Also, the girl that had purchased her headband had a receipt. Instead you made us very uncomfortable and we left much sooner than we probably would have. We also purchased less than we may have since you were so rude to us. I didn't even want the girls to buy anything at all after that. We will not be back to your store! read more

I love the Freeport store. Is this even the same company as the Mexicali in Portland? Because Old Port has terrible customer service. I received incredible treatment from Shannon, and Nicole was there as well entertaining my young son as I shopped. I was greeted by Freeport when I walked through the door, and Shannon took the time to help me pick out jewelry. Always buy something here when I am in freeport. Quirky store, just jam packed with cool Indian and Eastern clothing and jewelry etc. Excellent assortment. Just a pleasure to go to. We have so much clothing from this store. It is so cool. The only negative I would say is all the hand written signs in the store that say you are on camera and shoplifting is a crime. It is kinda distracting and looks trashy. I am sure they have a theft problem, but that is not the answer. It makes the store seem a bit unfriendly. I love the store and give it 5 stars with all the great merchandise and pretty good prices. read more

Mexicali Blues is a must-visit for me when I am in the Freeport area. Their clothing is very free-flowing and comfortable and the people who work there are very chill. The only reason I am not giving a fifth star is because I seem to always pick out items that are 'one size fits all'. Being petite, that usually means it will not fit me. I have absolutely fallen in love with Mexicali's jewelry and amazing customer service. I recently purchased a ring at the Freeport location. After a day had gone by I noticed my fingers must've been swollen when I purchased the ring, making it too large for my finger. A week later I went back to the store in search of a smaller size. If I remember correctly a girl names Linsey helped me when looking for a new ring. I was first advised that to exchange I would need my receipt, and then I was helped when looking for a replacement. Unfortunately it was not looking up for me, I didn't have the receipt I needed, and the ring was no where to be found. I left the store to come back a week later armed with my receipt and hope to find a replacement. Linsey was there again to help me search for the ring or a different one in exchange. While helplessly searching through all of the rings, Linsey was nice enough to straighten out an old ring of mine that has been bent! Another employee, Emily I think he name was then informed me that she could send an email out to the other stores to see if they had the ring in a different size for me. I was thrilled! She took a picture, got my phone number and sent out an email promptly. I unfortunately missed the phone call the following Monday telling me there was only a size 6 (way too small for my fingers), but I was still happy to hear that they hadn't forgotten about me. Although I did not get the size ring I was looking for, I have fallen in love with it and will just have to live with the fact that it is a little bit to big. I will absolutely continue to recommend friends to visit Mexicali. I love the products and I love the customer service even more! read more

Great stuff.. fairly good prices.. beautiful selection of fun mittens/hats. locally made blueberry lipbalm!.. handmade doorknobs.. lights.. I could have stayed in there for another 2 hours perusing around but we are coming back tomorrow. teehee My only complaint...one size fits all clothing. read more
