My boyfriend and I had a once in a lifetime experience fishing with Matt. Unfortunately salmon season was cut short, so we fished for only sturgeon. However, we had the opportunity to catch and keep sturgeon only if it was between 44-50 inches; which occurs twice in a year. From beginning to start, Matt was super helpful with providing gear for me as it was my first time fishing. His boat was top of the line compared to the rest on the river that day. It had a hot water sink and very comfy chairs to sit in. He also had beers, waters on dec and had anti-nausea meds on board which was great for me since I was feeling sick. After 5 minutes, my boyfriend caught his first sturgeon that was 47 inches. And I caught one four hours later that was 45 inches. He allowed us to reel it in (which was a struggle for me, but worth it) and he took great photos after. We were the only 2 people that day to catch and keep our sturgeon. We couldn't have had a better experience and we got so lucky that day thanks to Matt! He ended up filet-ing our sturgeons and took 15 pounds of it home. It was the highlight of our trip to Portland. HOLY MOSES not sure what to say other than fishing with Matt is EPIC! I am an avid fisherman who likes to travel different places to fish. We found Capt. Matt online and after a few emails back and forth we landed on a date to book the whole boat in Astoria, Oregon. All the way through communication was excellent, he was always prompt with returning emails and or calls, always friendly and polite, (unlike most skippers) and just a pleasure to deal with. Here's where it gets good. Matt told us to meet him at the dock in Astoria where his boat was moored. The directions were perfect, the bathrooms were clean and it's a very professional marina. We arrived at his boat and let me tell you it's the cleanest fishing boat I've ever been on. After a quick thorough safety talk we left the Marina and headed out on the river. Matt told us that fishing may be a little slow as we were having a weather change. He was wrong! We hooked almost 40 salmon in one day! It was the best day of fishing I've ever had in my LIFE! We had an amazing experience from start to finish with Matt. Believe all the reviews you are reading on here, because you're going to have the time of your life. I spent a good 10 hours researching guides for my families Salmon fishing trip, and trust me there are a ton in the Northwest. After narrowing it down to 3-4, and talking to Matt on the phone, I knew he was our guy. I started talking to Matt about 6 months prior to our trip and he was excellent with all communication. Whether by phone, text, or email, he was always quick to respond and happy to answer any questions our group had. The boat was plenty big, and he keeps it spotless. I didn't think it was possible to keep a fishing boat that clean considering how often it's out on the water. All the equipment was in excellent condition as well. Matt will even clean your fish upon return, then cut and bag your catch however you like. Last and most important, Matt is just a great all around guy. Super knowledgeable about his craft and has a great sense of humor. Remember, depending on the trip you book, you'll be on a boat with your guide for 4-8 hours. A few of the guides I talked to seemed pretty dull and lacking personality. That is not the case here, and would have really changed our experience. In this case I knew I had to pass on my '5 Star' experience with Matt at EastFork Outfitters. A couple weeks ago I decided that I wanted to take my 8 year old on his first official fishing trip. He has taken us on multiple trips which have included salmon, steelhead, and also sturgeon. My personal favorite is sturgeon fishing. Let me start by saying this was my second trip out with Matt and I cannot wait to go again! I booked the whole boat and took my family and we had the time of our life! We caught more salmon than we could fit in our cooler. Matt's boat is always spotless and he has the latest top of the line equipment on board. I always feel very safe and his boat if fully equipped with lots of safety equipment, (eg. Life jackets, flares, safety lines, first aid kits, etc.) One thing about Matt is he always is in contact with you all the way up to the day of the trip to be sure to we were in the best location to be in this fish. He always puts in the extra effort above and beyond to make sure you have a great day. Captain Matt Eleazer was contacted by me a few weeks in advance for a reservation to fish. His boat seats 6 people.. but 4 people would be very comfortable. We had 3 Adults and 2 Children and that was perfect. Because when he says your going to see action... YOU WILL SEE ACTION! He never accepts a client unless he feels he can guarantee a fish... (and no one can truly guarantee a catch... but Matt works hard to make sure you catch.) Learning to captain a boat even before driving a car, Matt is a 25 year fishing veteran and US Coast Guard licensed Captain... he's also got a lifetime of experience catching fish and is an all around great guy! I couldn't be more impressed. Not only did he set up our fishing spot hours in advance to give us the best position, but he prepped us well, and continually impressed with his knowledge of fishing and boatmanship. I had no clue regarding this kind of fishing. I wanted my kids to experience what it was like to land a big Salmon... My kids are experienced fishermen, but not this kind of fishing. Lets just say there was no room for disappointment with all the excitement going on. I'll be fishing with East Fork Outfitters again, hopefully an annual trip for sure! A group of four went fishing out of Astoria with Matt. He was in the water before 4am preparing for our 5:45am arrival. We hit the ground running and landed our first Chinook by 6:30. I am bit reluctant to write the review; first because my hands and arms were still not recovered from catching a 6ft and over a 100lb sturgeon to type properly, but also I want to make sure Matt isn't too booked up from my great review and is available the next time I come to the Pacific Northwest! This was my first trip with Matt and it was fantastic! Communication to set the trip up was great. Day before and the day of was great as well being that we had two of us coming from MN and WI. As for the fishing Matt was prepared and ready to land some fish and worked some serious river area to find the fish.
