Great experience. We did the full day on the Clackamas River and enjoyed ever single rapid to the fullest! We had a group of 5 adults and pretty much had a PERFECT day. We rafted late May 2025. The water level has gone down further since then (June 2025) (so depending on when you read this, you may not be able to do the full day trip anymore on that section of the river, which is water level dependent, so do the half day!). The lunch they made was exceptional - veggies, BBQ chicken, steak, oh my! I am a bit of a stickler when it comes to white water, since over a decade ago I spent 2 summers guiding on a class IV river on the East Coast. I was new to going down the Clackamas, but I could tell by the lines that the guide took that he had tons of experience. Most folks outside of the whitewater community underestimate how much a river can change based on water level, which makes rafting on rivers that do not have regular damn releases to stabilize water levels harder. Big powerful class IV rapids can become mellower class III at lower water, but a class III can also become a class V with less water -- due to technical difficulty and sometimes a much narrower set of possibilities for success. Our guide had seen that river at every type of water level. Many times over. That is exactly the type of guide you want if you have kids in the boat or anyone who is nervous about rafting. I cannot recommend Blue Sky Whitewater enough. If you are local to Portland or visiting from out of town, book it now. You will not be disappointed. read more

We experienced the Clackamas River half day run with Calvin as our guide and everybody in our group had a great time. We were visiting the Portland area and this adventure was on the last day of our family vacation. Along with my brother, my 11 year old daughter, and nine year old son, we all got drenched in the cool river water. None of us had been whitewater rafting before, but we were all wearing personal flotation devices, neoprene booties, and helmets, all of which we borrowed from Bluesky. We opted not to wear the full body wetsuits, but in hindsight the kids should have worn them as they did get cold. The adults were fine without the suits but it was warm and sunny that day (75 F or so). We all know how to swim but there was never any real worry of falling out of the raft or tipping over. What a great time, wow. We did a full day rafting trip in a group of 4. Our guide, Calvin, was amazing, so knowledgeable and fun to chat with. He really knew what he was doing and it helped us let lose and have a blast. The food for lunch was an amazing bbq, and the river was so beautiful. We saw three bald eagles, and they also watched us right back. We did the cliff jump as well, and it was an incredible experience. Will never forget it. The full day Upper Clackamas River trip was amazing!! There were mostly calm areas, which was great for our group including an 8 and 12 yr old, and some really fun Class 3 rapids! Our guide was very skilled and nice! The food offered for lunch was fantastic! Freshly grilled chicken, steak, hummus, veggies, chips, mac salad, potato salad, water, soda, garlic bread... probably more that I have forgotten. But we were all full and still had left overs! I'm a beginner and I was with 5 kids on this trip. We took class level 3 with blue sky and it was honestly the best thing I did in Oregon over our four day stay. A fantastic experience with really wonderful views and a great guide. Dan took us down a five mile scenic path on the river and took interest in getting to know us. His ability to take care of us is unmatched and his confidence in rafting made us feel very at-ease. Gary also took amazing photos of us and put on a slideshow at the end. Excellent guides, excellent equipment and an excellent company highly recommended. All the guides are at a minimum CPR and first aid trained in case there is a need (what a comfort to know). The 3 men who came out on our trip showed expertise in their knowledge of the 11 mile river trail like the back of their hands. Our raft guide Spencer I was especially beyond impressed by his level of comfort, direction and knowledge regarding the wildlife and history of the forestry. He definitely is beyond a raft guide offering some educational facts during our full day adventure down the river. My family & I had the time of our lives and to top it all off, Steve cooked us a wonderful steak and chicken BBQ meal served with an array of sides. No boring sandwiches here. Everything was made with care and thought, asked us how we liked our steaks and even prepared a nice area of chairs under a shady canopy of trees. Sweet! We were a party of 14...5 in one raft, 6 in another with 3 other people in the 3rd. The experience couldn't have been more perfect. These guys definitely love what their doing and it showed. We felt relaxed, excited, engaged and a sense of comfort around them. They took us surfing, maneuvered us through rocks and more importantly reassured us that safety was the number one priority. Spencer's safety briefing kept my sons attentive because during the actual river run, they followed everything he detailed from the start. That to me is how you know a great leader is guiding your crew. My two sons are Boy Scouts and they missed their summer camp to make fun memories as a family. This rafting memory is one they will never forget and they can take their experience and knowledge from the wild and into their next scouting adventure. Took the whole family here for our first whitewater rafting trip and had a blast. We did the morning tour of the Shoshone Rapids, and it was the perfect amount of time on the water. This tour was just the right amount of adrenaline for a first-time family, with a nice scenic cruise after the rapids. Our guide, Larry, was phenomenal. It was high on my list of things to do while on my roadtrip and I'm sure glad my online research lead us to Blue Sky Rafting. The designated meeting point was right off of Highway 224 along the Clackamas River, but many of the landmarks they mention are hard to see, so keep your eyes peeled for a large weigh station with a tiny hut (what they described as a "parking lot"). If you hit the main town of Estacada, you've gone too far (if you're coming from the South). We were driving back and forth searching for the meeting point and cell phone reception was a crap shoot, so it did take us a while to meet up with the rafting company. This little hiccup wasn't the best way to start our day, but the rest of our trip was smooth sailing, so don't be fooled by the first impression. The wind jacket and life jacket they provide keep you warm and dry, even on a cold, overcast day like the day we went. If you're really afraid of the cold, you can rent a wetsuit for $5, but honestly, you can't go whitewater rafting without expecting to get at least a little wet (that's half the fun!) I was expecting a huge group of people, but we were literally the only raft on the Clackamas River. Heather, our tour guide, was AWESOME!!! She's knowledgeable and HILARIOUS, and was definitely the highlight of our rafting trip. Although the water level was a bit low, we still hit some solid, adrenaline-pumping class III+ rapids. There was even a section of the river where Heather pulled over and we jumped off a huge cliff into the water. Awesome, gotta love it! The second highlight of the trip was the all you can eat BBQ lunch break half way through our journey. Boy, did we work up an appetite! We had steak, BBQ chicken, veggies and dip, chips and salsa, potato salad, macaroni salad, chips, cookies, and drinks - all the grub you need to replenish your energy and leave you in good spirits for the last half of the trip. They also take some great action photos of your group paddling for dear life and getting drenched by the rapids, so you'll have documentation you survived! Excellent outfit from start to finish! We did the full day tour and I highly recommend it. Our guide mentioned that the first part (pre-lunch) was the scenic part and the second part was more "active." So glad we didn't miss either! The rapids were so much fun. This was my second rafting trip (first was over 10 years ago) so I'm still super green to the whole thing. Ben was our guide and he was fantastic. Lunch was great and they have a vegetarian option if you ask. I think the price for the photos ($40) is a bit steep but I went ahead and bought them - I'm glad I did. They got some fantastic action shots and these paled in comparison to any I could have taken myself. read more

We did the N Santiam 1/2 day trip and it was a great afternoon. While it was a pretty tame river this time of the year, the guide was playful and took every opportunity to make it feel adventurous. We knew it was near the end of rafting season so we were pretty happy to get any white water at all! Water was bone-chillingly "refreshing" so we didn't have the guts to cliff jump at the end, but seemed like fun! Group: 3 adults, 2 teens and 1 pre-teen. Level: easy. Burgers, fries and shakes at Poppa Al's a block away was the perfect ending. read more

Others have said it all. I chose Blue Sky amongst a few in the area based on great customer service initially -Tina, specifically- and the field crew did not disappoint either. We went in late Aug, and apparently the water in that time of the year isn't all that exciting to raft on, and this is one of the few reasons this was not a perfect maiden rafting trip for me. It mostly Class I and II rapids, and loads of chitchatting and games mostly. Our guide was great though, did a good job of trying to keep the four of us safe and entertained. read more

When my dad came to visit me in Portland he wanted to have a rafting experience but was definitely hesitant and worried about his safety. This section of the Clackamas that Blue Sky runs is definitely by itself one of the most beautiful and best little spots in Oregon that's not too far from Portland. We only did the afternoon half day, but not only were we provided with all the gear (it was a cold day and the water is freezing), but the guides were welcoming and made us (especially my dad) safe and comfortable on the river. We came with a fairly large party; 13 people and Blue Sky was really accommodating to our groups' needs. We did the full day river trip and right off the bat we had an easy time getting there. I saw some previous reviews that mentioned the directions were a little off, but they may have changed it because we had no issues getting there. We met Mary, Willie, Kane, and everyone's favorite Teddy the dog. The guides explained all the instructions clearly and even though were serious about our safety and preparations, were very thoughtful and fun. The food they served was delicious and was abundant! Aside from the experience being everything we could've asked for (only about 3 people from our group have done rafting before) the best time was just spent conversing with our guide Willie. He was not only knowledgeable of the river, surrounding mountains, nature etc. he was also making sure we had a great time. He and the rest of the rafting crew were genuinely great people. I don't think anyone in our party of four could have anticipated what an incredible ride this was going to be. Spencer, our guide, was super knowledgeable not just about rafting and safety but also about the flora and fauna in the area, which really added to the experience. We did a half day trip, and hope to do a full one in the future. Special tip: I've never bought a vacation photo package in my life, but, man, the photos Frank took were cool. What a great trip! We waited a little long for the rest of another group to come but it wasn't a big deal. They approached our cars when we parked and explained everything first. Pete & Gary were awesome hosts and made some tricky rapids manageable with all of us newbies (not to mention with the river so low). They brought us to a great cliff jumping spot and let us take our time. Gary even jumped off the highest point with us. This was our first time white water rafting and our tour guides made it so easy and fun as well. We had Mike and Kai since there was only 3 of us and they were both very informative and made the trip a great experience. It was pretty easy understanding and doing the commands and my boyfriend did fall in cause the rapids were strong but fortunately it was pretty calming and easy to get him back into the boat. Made for a great story. It's not really strenuous and there's a lot of calm breaks between the rapids so it's pretty good for beginners I think. We went beginning of May so it's still pretty chilly definitely need the wetsuit and booties! Brought a GoPro make sure you have the attachments for a helmet, I wouldn't do a wrist strap or bring anything else. We got soaked! I definitely recommend this company! read more

We did the morning half-day tour on the Clackamas River a few days ago and had a blast! I was apprehensive at first when we were deciding on which tour to do because the site mentioned that Clackamas had large waves and big rapids, which concerned me. Luckily for us, the water level on the river wasn't too high because of the summer and the rapids were manageable for us to navigate. Our guide was also very helpful about warning us ahead of time if a big rapid was coming that could potentially knock us out of the boat. The tour was so much fun and we loved the organization of our tour along with our guide, who helped keep us safe. Also, be sure to order the pictures taken by their staff! It's $40 but you could split the costs with the people in the boat with you. Also, if coming from the city center area, make sure you leave at least an hour before the meeting time because even though it's about 30 miles from downtown Portland, you have to take back roads to the meeting point. read more

This experience is a once in a lifetime and I'm so pleased I had Blue Sky to share it with as a first time river rafter. We got there an hour early and the big blue van was already there. Mary is so nice and greeted us right away and gave us the scoop on the experience we were about to have. The van drives you up to the starting point and then you raft back to the location you parked at. Mary takes awesome pictures for you for $40, but we just split the cost with others in our raft and emailed the pics over to them, save money that way! You don't meet at an establishment but at the actual river. Mary will email you the quadrants via Google map, it's very easy to get here if you just follow google maps. We toured the Clackamas river and it was so breathtaking. Really try and take the time to look up and all around you while rafting, it's gorgeous. The entire trip in the raft was 3 hours, it was a little to long for me but still an amazing experience. This location is extraordinary and all the tour guides know exactly what they are doing and will keep you safe. I have to say our guide, Skip was definitely the best. He was so informative and really made sure we were all comfortable and answered all of our questions with patience. He was so funny and such a humble guy, he treated us as friends and took good care of us. Thank you Skip! I highly recommend Blue Sky rafting company to first timers as well as pros. This experience was full of laughter, fun and some short lived scary moments (some steep dips) followed by laughter. It's something you have to try at least once! read more

Not sure how else to say this other than to say my tour with Blue Sky was the best part of my vacation to Oregon. I look at every picture of my family and in every picture we have huge smiles on our faces. None of us had any experience and we were treated perfectly by our expert guide. The rapids were exhilarating and there were a bunch. Even when you're not actively paddling through a patch of whitewater you are looking at serene, beautiful scenery from a perspective you've never seen before. My wife and I are in our late 30's, my boys are 10 and 12 years old and this river trip was appropriate for all of us. Don't hesitate to bring kids (over the age of 5), the guides will make sure they are kept safe. Without a doubt I will raft with Blue Sky again the next time I am in Portland.
