And for the kids, these new lanes have bumpers at the push of a button. The pavilion has an antique feel to it, and as such, you have to keep track of your score via ye ol' scorecards and little pencils, but that's part of the charm. And then after our games -- you rent lanes by the hour, and they will turn them off when you're time's up -- we got pizzas. These are the super doughy kind, which I love. The bar had a great selection of beer and drinks, and after my sister offered to start heading back to our rooms with the kids, the rest of the adults stuck around for an additional drink. (We totally owe her one!) The West Baden Billiard and Bowling Pavilion is a must if we come back to West Baden!

We did the stable tour, which is an option for people who like to interact with horses from a…read moredistance, but don't necessarily need to ride them. The stable tour is less than an hour, and you get to meet some of the friendly horses that call the stables at French Lick Resort their home. The first part of the tour included one of the stable staff bringing the horses up to us for us to pet. Horse hair is so soft, yet so coarse! The horses they brought up to us were gentle and tame, so we didn't have to worry about a horse getting spooked and bolting, or a horse kicking anyone in the head (just stay away from their rear legs). Then, we were shown around the stables and could see where the horses slept and were tended to. We even got to meet the smallest horse in the stable: Pepsi! To be honest, I don't especially like horses because I feel like they're unpredictable creatures, but I felt completely at ease doing the stable tour. It was a fun and educational bonus to our visit to French Lick!

The green fees are high ($450) but if destination golf is your thing then you won't even blink as you swipe the credit card. A hidden gem in Southern Indiana. This is right off I-69 by Jasper. Only $10 to camp here with a…read moretent. For canoe and kayak rentals it's only $1 a day! Such great prices for an amazing location. We set up our tent on a peninsula overlooking the lake with nobody near us. The interstate noise carried, but it wasn't too loud. We didn't put on the rain fly and could hear the crickets, frogs and fish jumping. Campground was well kept. Clean bathrooms, mowed lawn, playground for kids, and everyone (staff and campers) were friendly. Perfect spot to test out my new tent. Great park to enjoy Indiana summer nights!
