Smitty's caters to African Americans, ie it is a black barbershop (I only mention it because not every barber can cut african american hair). Smitty's is the type of barbershop you grew up with or maybe saw in movies - that is old school. It has been around for a long time, they answer the phone simply with "Barbershop". There is usually someone hawking something outside either CDs or shoes or Obama tshirts and there is a beauty shop next door. Inside there is the usually barbershop banter - sports, politics, work, people they know etc. You can come it and chat or you can simply get your hair cut with nothing more than telling them what you want and saying thanks. You'll find kids, teens, moms, impeccably dressed old men, middle age professionals, and young men in streetwear. Smitty's is for everyone - don't be put off by the neighborhood if you are a "professional", young or otherwise (which I suppose I technically am). There are several barbers, there at different times and sometimes all at once. I'm sure you can find at leas one you like. Price wise I think a basic cut is $13, a fade $15. I always pay $20 because they do a good job. They are closed on Monday and open until 6 or 7 usually, but you'll have to check and see if the barber you want is in, if you care. They all do a good job. Walk ins are welcome but you might have to wait a while. Smitty's is on Douglas avenue which is a little side street and easy to miss. Basically you look for the AC place with the vans and turn there on the small side streett, across from the strip mall.

Once Mark completed my cut I asked him for a business card and on his business card it states accepting appointments. Smh, this area and business. I only recommend this place to those who like to walk in. The first time that I walked in no one asked if I needed help and the unreliable but excellent skilled barber called to let me know that he was stuck in traffic...as I got up and walked they wanted to help. I recommend N'style Ritchie Road Location...they are consistent, professional, and respectable and they accept appointments!

I explained that I had a major event this weekend and I needed amazing hair cut with a sharp hairline. He explained that he had been cutting for over 20 years and once owned a barbershop so I figured I was in good hands! however he pushed my hairline back and inch in a half. My haircut is so bad, I think I'm forgo going to my event. I'm truly disappointed and will never patronized this establishment again. As a barber that has been cutting for over 20 years, I would think you would ask your client about their hairline if you had issues. He just completely butchered my hairline and tried to fade my hair to cover up his mistake. I was livid when I left the shop and chose not to make a scene in front of other customers. I would advise that you watch everyone cut before the hostess assigns you a barber. STAY AWAY FROM JAMES THE BARBER! Please let Karl or any other barber cut your hair. James needs to hang up his clippers.
