There are two good things about this school…read more.. Okay, there's probably more than that but there's definitely two that I know of for sure. 1. Ms. Vivian is probably dead and therefore no longer part of their staff. She was evil incarnate when she was working here (I should know, I had her for kindergarten). How the physical abuses got past the administration are beyond me, but this was a different time, and she was horrible. 2. Ms. Cook no longer works here either. She was a redheaded demon. No, seriously. I corrected her on her grammar when I was 12 or so (Mr. Matthews was a good English teacher) and she pretty much tried to shoot me with flaming arrows. Ever since then she would make up random things about me that were totally untrue just to get me in trouble. I hope she's dead too, really. Anyways, there still were plenty of great teachers here in my day; Mr. Matthews, Ms. Green, Ms. Ehardt, etc. But none of them work here now either. I guess since most of this stuff is irrelevant now, it's probably not very helpful. However, if you are considering sending your kids here for the Christian aspect I should tell you, they also did such a good job of teaching me to think independently that I experimented with Pagan beliefs in high school and definitely became an Atheist in college.

It used to…read morebe broke up into a bunch of elementary schools throughout Eastpointe two main middle schools which were either Oakwood or Kelly Middle School and then everybody would then attend East Detroit High School... NOW... Sometime in early 2000 one of the big time School Executives for the district was stealing a lot of money. I don't really know the specifics but it ended up destroying our district in to three separate elementary schools that start from K to 2nd grade at Bellview 3-5, Crestwood, in Forest Park is elementary schools that go from K to 2nd grade... then you have Pleasant View that goes from 3rd grade to 5th grade. Then 1 middle school 6th-8th then 1 high school Easpointe high school formally known as East Detroit.... they just opened a Early child pre school where woodland elementary used to be and They used to have a alternative school *Kellwood* NO longer there... NOT WHAT IT WAS 20 years ago. I love my son's teacher but it really went in the gutter.... oh and the bus service is a joke dont put your child threw that sometimes they forget kids at the school or dont drop them off at the right stops. Just Dont!

Not the worst Detroit public school, but certainly not the best…read more Heilman has a beautiful building. It's large, clean, with lots of light and space. Some of the teachers seem dedicated and excited about their jobs. They seem to have more resources than most schools and it helps to teach in such a well laid out and clean environment. However, the office staff are less than helpful. They leave confidential student information out in plain view, lose important forms, disclose sensitive information to other parents/students, and are often rude and mean to the students. I once witnessed a secretary yelling at a first grader and calling her a baby because she wet her pants. Puhleeze!
