I shouldn't have. He kept delaying when he would do the job, finally just announcing they'd be there the next day. That wouldn't have been that much of a problem, even though it was sudden, except that I'd been asking him for a contract proposal for a week and he'd kept telling me he'd get to it but didn't. I finally told him that he couldn't come the next day (it was after 6pm by this point) because I still hadn't seen a proposal and wanted a chance to look it over before they started and wouldn't have a chance to do that due to his delays. All of a sudden, he texted me that I'd have to find another contractor because I was too difficult to work with. Because I'd asked for a contract for a $5000 project, to protect both of us, and wanted more than 12-14 hrs to read it over. I'm ultimately glad he showed his colors early, I have no confidence at all that he wouldn't have just stolen my money and vanished. Extremely unprofessional and very shady. Research other contractors, this is not normal behavior.

They are honest, open, communicative, and work like crazy to get the job done! Bill does really high quality work - he always explains in detail how he's tackling the job and sends a ton of photos so you can see what he and his team are doing at every step. One of my retaining walls (see photos) is in a really precarious location on a public sidewalk next to a busy street, but Bill and his team were able to handle it like true professionals. He estimated the work would take a few weeks, but after assessing the situation he decided that they needed to get the sidewalk cleared as quickly as possible so that people could walk by, so he brought in reinforcements and finished this wall in three days. Three days!!! No exaggeration - the "before" photo was taken on a Thursday, and the "after" photo was taken on Saturday! I have no idea how he pulled that off, but I so appreciate that he worked so hard to get the wall done quickly and cleaned up the area perfectly so that my neighbors wouldn't get mad at me :D Long story short, I feel really well taken care of by Bill and Sue - they treat you like family and I absolutely love my new "hawaiian style" wall :) Mahalo Bill and Sue!

Victor, owner of Pacific Northwest Paving, came to me to solicit the work, initially he suggested…read morepaving but I wound up needing help with general grading as I got some free dirt/gravel and I'm not yet ready to decide between asphalt vs concrete nor do I have funds for a real driveway right now. Victor is easygoing, eager, approachable, affable, honest, and chock full of integrity. He's also a human and like some other reviews note, he spends some extra time just getting a feel for "what does the customer really want" before making a suggestion. He is the type of person who you can actually trust, a rare thing these days. We made our deal, he noted the rains approaching, and he got the job done the very next day. I'm sure he can't always be quite that responsive but it was pretty awesome for me to get such premium service at a price I was comfortable with. When the job was done, there was one tiny little "oops" where my water meter got covered. I mentioned it and asked if I was being too much of a princess asking him to have his guys come back and dig it out, certainly I can spend the 5 minutes to go get my shovel and take care of it, but then again I was a paying customer. Victor did not flinch, he had it done when I looked the very next day. The quality of work done was excellent and this company is now my preference for all things dirt/gravel/asphalt in the future.
