WARNING to parents with children who will be using the child watch. One word. DONT. We were instructed to bring in a bag for him with diapers and a bottle. We signed up today, worked out for 30 minutes, then picked up our son to find out on our own once we checked his bag, that he was fed a bottle that was not his. He consumed someone else's breast milk and or formula. We're still waiting on their staff to resolve this issue. If you're a parent, I don't have to explain the concern, frustration and worry that comes along with this. Needless to say this was SO not what we expected from the YMCA. We will not be back. Be careful who you decide to leave your children with. read more

The Eastside Family YMCA has been a service which provides our family hours of entertainment. The facilities are clean and easily accessible. The staff is very helpful when we have questions about schedules and activities. We take advantage of the child drop off which allows us to workout and gives our kids something to do. They have daily drop off times which is helpful. We also enjoy the pool and hot tub, as well as the ability to go to any other YMCA in the area and use their facilities. It is a great value for our family of 5 and while we have only been members for a month, we look forward to our weekly visits and it has become part of our routine. read more

the YMCA east side does not enforce rules regarding children in adult locker room. every time I'm there, regardless of time of day, there are woman with children ages 3 and up, boys and girls in the womans locker room. very uncomfortable dressing in front of 5 year old boys that are poorly watched by their adult read more

The gym is nice. Sauna and pool too. Simply frustrated as I activated membership prior to COVID & had the benefit of bringing a guest with me when I visit. The YMCA continues to deny all guests a chance to visit, as they have for several years. For the cost of membership I prefer to have an option of paying a reduced amount until All I Agreed To Pay For is allowed!! One more thing I noticed is that when a woman wanted to use the phone due to her car being inoperable in front of The YMCA she was denied by staff because she was not a member! Awful! read more

The hot tub has only been open once during our past seven visits. We come at different times, on different days, and it always seems to be closed. Very frustrating on the nights I come to solely use the hot tub and pool. read more

I come to the Eastside to show my Beastside. But hopefully not my Yeastside. Ew. Easily the best YMCA location in Rochester by a long distance. Right down to the wonderful people working at the front desk. Even though they insisted on calling Buffalo to make sure I was really a member I will give them a free pass because they were just so friendly and a couple of them were super cute. The musician guy at the front desk I was speaking to had a really cool chat with me for a while. Upstairs the weight rooms are better than the other Rochester locations. Everything seems to work okay and I got what I needed out of it. The cardio machines are decent although they don't have the ones that I need. There are still plenty of them and they're not bad at all. read more

Nice facilities, terrible environment. I've been a member at this YMCA since it opened. Over the course of the last 2 to 3 years though the staff seems to be indifferent towards not enforcing rules on obnoxious members -- whether it be allowing the use of four different workout stations at once for one member, or having children run around aimlessly in the training center, the staff do nothing about this. My friends belongings were stolen in the locker room too, and clearly staff attitude in general has emboldened degenerate members. Culture changes needed! Good thing is I needed a new vape and a member left their's on the leg press so it saved me a trip to the gas station! read more

I absolutely love the Eastside YMCA. Friendly staff, HUGE facility, clean locker/changing rooms and tons of equipment and more! The parking lot is large but does get crowded fast, especially on the weekends but if you wait just a few minutes there's always a fast turnover and a place to park. I don't have any children but have been told by friends that their children's playroom is awesome and that it's always a struggle to get them to come out. Along with the large pool there is a smaller pool for kids that includes fun water features. The larger pool can be on the cooler side depending on who is working. There is a great rock climbing wall that once you go thru the training course is a cool additional feature to use. Staff here have always been friendly and very helpful if you have any questions or needs. Join the "Y" it's well worth it! read more

A1 facility complete with indoor turf arena and awesome pool complex!!!! Fun classes get me pumped and the indoor track is conveniently located over the b ball court to ck out any hoop hotties! This is the best ymca and better than most gyms I've ever been to. This facility is not unlike the Chelsea Piers Sports Complex in Manhattan which sais a lot really. 2 thumbs up! Really likey! *you haftA bring your own towels tho but not a huge deal cuz it's the suburbs and I can easily bring a towel in the my car. read more

Update as of January 2019. Well over two years since my first review regarding cell phone use in the locker rooms, and nothing...at all...is being done about it. If I bring my $800 Canon EOS camera into the locker room with the lens pointing at naked men and boys, would there be a problem? This is exactly what is happening with every cell phone brought in and used there. Countless cell phones have similar/same quality of picture and video taking. I wonder how many pictures/videos can be found online of young boys undressing in YMCA locker rooms. They are building a new Y out in Henrietta. Here are your simple solutions: An audible prompt in the locker rooms set on regular intervals with a voice saying "cell phone use is not permitted in the locker room area" (or similar). A small flashing sign stating the same. There ARE solutions that can virtually eliminate the problem. I gave you two for free above. Or, we can continue to have the problem, have possible physical fights start over it (I've witnessed a couple close calls), or we can find our young boys naked online in what is clearly a YMCA locker room. Both of which can cost the Y untold millions in liability damages. Do I need to start enforcing the policy myself? And if I do, will the Y compensate me for any damages I incur? We are living in technological times where cell phone use in locker rooms is absolutely intolerable. Either the Y is going to actively do something about it, or they should expect to face the consequences of doing nothing. read more

Love this place! Beautiful large spaces that's well maintained with friendly and courteous staff!! The Sport Fitness weight room is amazing! Huge windows which makes it a cheery environment with the latest of equipment that's kept organized. Plus the AC is great... an especially nice feature when your working hard! So happy we joined!! My family has been members of the Y for almost two years and we love it! I frequent the group cycle classes the most, but have also had good experiences in both active and gentle yoga, cardio step, and cardio dance. My kids love Child Watch and almost all the workers know my kids by name. The adventure center is a great place to work off some energy on hot, cold, rainy, etc. days. We can almost always find a table in the foyer to eat a snack and hang out as a family, which I appreciate. Everyone is friendly and welcoming! Not sure why it took me so long to do a review but, I love this place. I'm here every week. I get my morning work out in after I drop my son off at their Pre-K class and my 8 month old at the child watch center. The facility is very clean and all of the staff is super friendly. Free coffee and tea throughout the facility. The membership fee is very reasonable. They offer a referral program, 20% off for you and the person who referred you. They also provide a military discount and will do a discount based off your income - they are very flexible. The membership includes child care for up to 2 hrs, pool, sauna, hot tub, work out classes, 2 gyms, a rec center for the teens, an adventure center for the younger kids, a track, sport programs for the kiddos, a nice and clean work out area and they also have a cross fit area - the classes for cross fit cost extra but you can still go and use the equipment if there isn't a class taking place. My son attends their Pre-K and I am so happy I decided to choose the YMCA. After speaking with my other mommy friends, what my son is receiving is way better and cheaper than what my friend's children are receiving. Their programs start at age 2. My son is in the Pre-K program (he's 4) and he loves it there. Every Monday they do yoga, Wednesday is gym and Friday is swim lessons. Their curriculum is basically the same as if they were in kindergarten. They do field trips and have special guests, so far this year they have had a visit from the firemen, a veteran, and a dentist and went to Wickham Farms. All the teachers are amazing and they have a private Facebook page for the parents where they post daily pictures to see what your kiddos are doing for the day. They also offer a discount if you're already a member and I believe they offer a discount based off your income just like they do with the membership. Another great thing about this place is that they do free family events! They will do family movie nights, for Halloween they did pumpkin carving and they had a mermaid for another event. I think they do an event at least once a month. They even offer a "date night", where you drop your kids off at the child watch center for a couple hours for a date night (this costs extra). Top Notch... It is extremely clean- there is always someone emptying garbage, mopping, scrubbing... Employees are always making sure you have everything you need and saying hello. If there is a problem or a concern they are on top of it in a matter of minutes and it is resolved without questions asked. They are all about customer service. There are so many machines on the floor there is never a need to compete. It can get busy at rush hour but even with that there is always a machine to be had! It is amazing. The pool areal is fabulous- clean and there are events and programs for the entire family. The locker rooms are spacious and you never feel like you are in anyone's way. They have enough changing rooms for privacy if you want to be modest as well. The Cleaning Crew is amazing about making sure ther puddles are cleaned up in the shower area as well. There is a lot for kids to do on their own as well to give mom and dad a break. There is a child watch with a climbing room and a baby room. There is also a teen area with video games and some fun ways to get exercise. The amount of classes and services they provide is amazing. From Zumba and Pilates to Personal Training and Massages! It is just a fabulous facility. I have been to other gyms and this is by far my favorite. It has a country club feel without the pain of the country club fees. read more

I echo what others have said--this is by far one of the nicest gyms I have ever been to--and it should be for the price for a monthly family membership. Even during peak times when the gym is crowded, I have never had an issue waiting around for equipment or finding a parking spot. Even if I did, it's well-worth the wait: the staff is friendly and the facility is clean. I use the child care facilities when I work out and the staff is AWESOME. This Y is an excellent place for families to go! The facilities are practically brand new (opened in 2006). This $15 million facility is the largest in the Monroe County area, measuring approximately 69,000 square feet (http://www.passero.com/PR_EastsideYMCA.htm). Eastside Family YMCA is complete with a swimming pool, hot tub area, sauna, a large gym with Nautilus equipment/weights/aerobic equipment, a multi-use recreational room, a gymnastics/dance studio, and a lap track. There is also a rock-climbing wall and a little tea/coffee area to sit and relax. The locker rooms are large, well-lit, and very clean. The staff are friendly and the general atmosphere is very upbeat. Definitely recommend this as a top-notch family health club. read more

This is one of the nicest Y's I've ever been to period. Beautiful pool with giant walls of windows, huge rock climbing wall, kids gym area is a lot of fun, the gym equipment is not only newer but well laid out. The staff is friendly from your check in to the trainers assisting & thankfully not selling you PT sessions to you (waves at RAC!!). My only complaint is a big one, they are always PACKED. That poses a problem. Not into waiting around for equipment. Between that and finding a parking space I was there for 2 hours instead of one on a regular basis. Ultimately this is why we dropped our family membership after 1 year. read more

Best YMCA in Rochester! The facility is well kept and offers many exercise programs (yoga, Pilates, body conditioning, spin, etc...) along with workout equipments. My family recently joined here as my wife canceled her RAC membership last month. So far, so good. We have two children and they don't charge extra to watch them. The place is very clean and welcoming. The staff are fine but the members make it. No issues here regarding "tough-guys" owning the gym and making you feel like you don't belong. Friendly, family people make up most of the members here and it shows. Great equipment, pool, sauna, indoor track, etc. My wife couldn't be happier and I am a fan. read more

I left Eastside for a short time due to the terrible customer service and horrible attitude of Colleen McGreer. I have even had to call corporate to get her to do her job. She has bad attitude and Even though I am back again simply for child care I'm about to drop it again because she lacks customer service, is quick to pass judgement on members, doesn't respond and when you have to go to 5 other people. Good things - Clean facility, very good weight room, fairly large selection of classes (although I wish they offered classes that start at 6:00 am or 4:00 pm), great personal trainers, nice friendly non-intimidating Y atmosphere. Pools look good (although I don't use them). Lots and lots of kid stuff. Very nice and cool in there (IMHO there's nothing worse than a hot gym!). Not-so-good things - Turning left out of there will kill you. Annoying piped in radio in the locker room. No hot water in locker room sinks. Everyone on their cell phone in the locker room (hey, CAMERAS ladies!). Awful, stinky, gross unisex bathrooms upstairs where you need a bathroom the most (and there's only two so you better not be in a hurry). Classes can be uncomfortably crowded. read more

I was using the facility for aqua physical therapy. Its a great YMCA. Just baffles me it took over a month to fix hair dryers in the Woman's locker room for the pool. It was also a week to fix the shower bar in the only handicap shower. There is a lady who cleans the locker room religiously and does a beautiful job. Best YMCA facility in the area, though possibly the most crowded which is the only negative aspect of this location. The number of fitness options offered by this facility are too numerous to mention in a review, but there is something for everyone. Even the little, little ones. And lots of options for the older crowd. The facility is gorgeous and has somewhat of a lodge-like feel with very tall ceilings, glass walls and very large windows, a wooden (or at least it looks like wood) ceiling, a fireplace when you walk in, and two large pools surrounded by glass. What I like most about this facility is an open design, where you don't feel boxed in while working out indoors or feel like you're in a high school gym class encircled by concrete walls. The crowd at this location is really diverse including people of all walks of fitness. For those with children, the childcare options at this location are fantastic, including the adventure center which my toddler daughter can spend hours in climbing through nets and tunnels. The staff are fantastic and generally, other parents are attentive and seemingly friendly. read more

We are told as members of the community we can use the facility three times per calendar year by the man at the front desk, no conditions mentioned about visiting with a member or anything. Then on a subsequent visit, which would have been the third in the calendar year, I was denied entry by the women at the front desk, with some rambling explanation about online passes and day passes, oh, but if I brought a member it would be different. What difference does it make to them? That my husband and I will now be checking out other gyms in the area and won't be buying a membership. read more

I gave it 3 stars because, it's really hard to find a machine. It's always so busy! The staff is friendly and will explain and show you about the machines, which is really important to me because I often have no idea what I'm doing when I go to the gym. Wear flip flops if you're going to the locker room! I got a nasty case of plantar wart on the bottom of my foot, which took over a year to get rid of! I also had to deduct some stars because of the following event. Now before I get into it, I will state, that my youngest child is a problem child. He is often out of control and really needs rules stated and ENFORCED during supervision. Their "daycare" complete chaos. Kids are running wild, screaming their heads off, having fun. Which is for every normal kid, a dream come true and are able to control themselves without going too far. Well not for my out of control child. He takes this unique type of a freedom from this daycare a step too far. Which often leads to them calling me to remove my child from the daycare. I really wish they offered a quiet daycare option for kids like my youngest child. The equipment in this gym was and still is state of the art. Overall, it's a good gym. But VERY pricey! read more
