I love historical homes and how they are laid out. The team there was friendly, informative, and pointed out many sites. The fenceposts have these historical signs which was very cool... We attended the annual Memorial weekend Civil War reenactment. Had a good time. The soldiers tents were staked. Full uniformed soldiers walked the streets. Then the two sides gathered into their regiments and the shooting began. We forget how this conflict was fought with small groups of men, many farmers and young boys in scant uniforms, tho nearly 300 men and women reenacted. The conflict lasted a good hour. Was very well planned out. The village's 20 buildings were staffed by volunteers. Some food was available for purchase. This is also the site for Burton's summer Chautauqua series--free!

For a "museum" in a little town staffed mainly by volunteers, this place is great!!…read more Rather than one big stuffy building with dusty old paintings on the wall and withered artifacts behind glass, Century Village instead is an outdoor "town" of structures apropos to the day - the settlement and early years for this area, that is. They even have a wooden church in great shape that you can walk into that was actually used in the 1800s which was relocated here for preservation. There is an admission fee that goes directly to their non-profit cause. Their "gift shop" is the town's general store in which you'll find period-proper snacks and trinkets. Century Village has lots of events throughout the year. One of our favorites is the popular pancake breakfast in maple syrup season (around March each year) - one of their fundraisers. Another is their civil war era reenactment which includes soldier and civilian encampments. It's not all about the soldiers - who put on a series of excellent displays and battles - but other living historians who show you what it was like to live in pre-20th century America (weaving, washing laundry, cooking, etc.). Other events include historical machinery which features some of the first tractors and farm equipment used long ago. The site is located in the heart of Burton Township in Geauga County, on the southeast corner of the town square. This is where 87, 168, and 700 meet. Again, a gem in such a small township, Century Village is tops!

The course holes are different from every angle, so every time playing is like playing on a different course. Inside the Tudor is a grille and bar. There is a patio. We had a late lunch after playing 18 holes. We had the chopped salad and beet salad, the stuffed peppers and the open-faced steak sandwich. All were very tasty. There is a large formal dining room that has a high ceiling with medieval looking chandeliers and a large fireplace. A sunroom makes a wonderful gathering place for weddings, retirements and other special functions. All of these rooms face the golf course. Other amenities are the swimming pool, tennis courts, and skeet and trap areas. This venue is special. Membership is reasonable.

The culmination of one man's efforts to preserve the quickly disappearing industrial history of the Mahoning Valley region, it is an amazing what can been done with dedication to mission and perseverance. This is no unfeeling static display with labels, it's a living, breathing reminder of the importance that steel once had in this region and our country. This means it can be a gritty, occasionally dirty place....but that doesn't mean it still can't teach folks of all ages amazing lessons. Unlike other steam locomotive experiences, this is steam in a small package, and #58's smaller size and simple construction makes it a particularly good for those who home school, as children can see all its working parts at their level, learning science, history and the importance of hard work in one package. In short, check it out. You won't be disappointed!
