The problem: no one actually informed me. No voicemail. No text. No portal message. Nothing. Instead of acknowledging the possibility of an office communication failure, staff repeatedly insisted their system "showed" I had been called and continued speaking to me as though I simply failed to understand how to use a phone. They even referenced alleged prior conversations that never happened. The entire interaction felt dismissive, defensive, and deeply unprofessional, especially in front of a crowded waiting room. Patients seeking pulmonary and sleep care are often already exhausted and dealing with significant health issues. Wasting a patient's time, gas, energy, and emotional bandwidth after months of waiting for care is unacceptable. If your office cancels appointments, patients deserve actual confirmation and respectful treatment, not blame and gaslighting when they arrive unaware.

There is no sign in sheet and there are no instructions posted anywhere up front which would alert you to their procedures for check in. I certainly urge them to at least put up a sign that says something like, "Please check in with the front desk upon arrival." That would eliminate a lot of confusion.
