It was a hearty yet-not-too-huge breakfast sandwich option. Like their delicious salt beef for lunch, just chopped up and mixed with potatoes. A great way to use up leftovers. Sausage & Egg: A whole lot of sausage! The tubular kind, cut length wise and topped with a fried egg. Way better than what McDonald's is slinging. Bacon: Lots of it, but not very crispy. From an American perspective, this tasted more like salty smoky ham. Not really my thing. Salt Beef: The crown jewel! I'm pretty sure this is what we call corned beef back home. Generous chunks of this tender and savory meat, with just the right amount of pickles and sauerkraut to contrast the saltiness. Braised Beef: Basically stewed beef sliced up and put on bread. I especially like how they poured extra gravy over it. Probably the heartiest of the sandwiches I tried, which is saying something since none of them were light!

Sure, there's the standard Egg Mayo with Cress and a Pret Pickle and Smoked Salmon, but once you get past the standards, there are some really great sandwiches in that cooler. Try the Red Pepper Tapenade & Soft Cheese or the tasty Crunchy Humous Bloomer or even a Sweet Chilli Crayfish & Mango Bloomer. I really love their salads, especially the No Bread Crayfish & Avocado since I'm on a low carb eating regime. It's just.. delicious. As for the coffee, I find Pret to be better than the Starbuckses of the world. First, it's organic milk. And second, it's just better roasted. It always seems to taste better to me. Did I mention it's also inexpensive. Sandwich, drink and bag of chips (they have some very unique flavors) is under £8. There are a couple of Prets in the Canada Square shopping centre, but the ones I have patronized are all the same. Take-away only with no seating and no free wifi of their own. Equally at lunch, if I am starving, one of Birley's many sandwich choices is perfect. The prices are fairly high - it is a little more expensive than Pret for example - but I think that the quality of the end product is worth it and, as I have said, sometimes only Birley's will do.

Service was friendly and they were keen to show off the place. I work nearby so, I knew they'd have a nice view but didn't realise just how spacious it was in there. I don't normally do Pret because they are all overpriced but I'm glad I stopped in to see all the fuss. Table layout is good and of course, it's new so it's spanking clean. This is a little unconventional - they offer it on a sandwich, but they also offer toasted bagels, so I took the initiative of combining the two and they were more than happy to oblige. You can have your eggs fried or scrambled, and I went with scrambled, but I definitely like that they ask (Birley's is only fried, Creed Lane Kitchen is only scrambled). They also asked if I wanted lemon juice and fresh black pepper on it, and of course I said yes! And this was all only £4. What a bargain. Then today, I went back and got the ham and cheese omelette on a toasted plain bagel. This also normally comes in sandwich form, but I really like their bagels, which are much closer to your standard bagels than the tiny things Birley's calls bagels. I didn't get a sauce with it, but the omelette was quite tasty on its own, and didn't really need seasoning. This omelette / bagel combination only cost me £3.80. I love this place already and can't wait to keep experimenting with custom breakfast options.

We snagged The Rodeo (brisket), Black & Bleu (steak), and The Subfather (pork & fennel meatballs). Every single sub knocked out of the park in different ways. The steak and pickled chili oil were a stellar combination, the meatballs just melted in your mouth, and the brisket with truffle mayo was mouthwatering. I'm absolutely stuffed right now and I'm still contemplating how to get another sub into my stomach. It's that good. It has a sort of old-timey kind of vibe, with wood panels along the walls and ceiling and a little performance stage in the back. It is conveniently located right next to the Canary Wharf tube station. My waitress was average friendliness and was only moderately attentive, as she never checked up on me during my meal. She also waited until I actually got my food to bring me my water. Overall, The Breakfast Club is a solid option for breakfast/brunch in Canary Wharf with pretty much any of the classics that you could want.

I couldn't tell and maybe the maple syrup was imported from Canada (eh), but we are spoilt with our Vermont supply. So no points gained/lost there. I didn't get any baked beans (yes because this was breakfast), but my bacon was tasty as were my two Americanos (aka coffees). If I had for some reason wanted pre-noon beans...I'm sure they would have been lovely, along with all the other varied menu choices I didn't have room to sample. Service was fast and efficient, and they endured my lingering into late-morning. By the time I left it had stopped raining. Will wonders never cease.
