I also ordered the Chicken Canasta de Plátano, which consists of fried green plantain cups filled with shredded chicken and topped with Santana sauce. It was a unique dish, and I'd never had anything like it before. I'd give it a 4/5, but only because I personally preferred the empanadas over the plantain cups. The menu has several items I don't see very often around Kansas City, and I'm already looking forward to trying more of it. I'm not usually in Olathe, but whenever I am, Santana's Sazon is definitely going into the rotation. Overall: 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 for the unique menu and excellent execution. My only suggestion would be to offer a few more house-made sauces. If Santana's signature sauce is any indication, I think they'd absolutely knock the sauce game out of the park.

They didn't put much gloppy cheese on it, (like I requested) and the nachos were even good at the second meal. It pulled pork, bbq sauce, and fresh vegetable. Little cheese. I like their tamales too. Heck, I generally like it all. If you make a special request, they will go out of the way to make the food for you, say, no dairy sauce, or no cheese. No problem. They are polite and nice about it. I believe every combo platter should come with rice and beans. I can tell how authentic a place is by the beans and salsa quite often. So far I've liked the combo platters and the taco salad that I tried. Again, if I remember correctly, I had to pay extra to get beans on my taco salad. That would be one complaint I have. Beans should be a staple and come with everything unless the person doesn't want them. The service has been good. No complaints and it's been busy when we've eaten there usually during lunch hours. The decor and ambiance is pretty typical Mexican. Nothing fancy. The one thing I will note is I didn't see any Mexicans working there. Maybe someone in the kitchen I can't see so that's usually not a great sign. I know they've been around a long time. I'd probably go a smidge lower to 3.5 if I could just because I'm rather picky about Mexican and Latin food but I don't think it's fair to go down to 3 so I'm rounding up. The prices seem a bit high but everything is so expensive in 2026!
