Specialties
We offer Rome’s first and longest-running Italian wine tastings in English (since 2008). We are the city's only provider with a dedicated, private tasting studio designed solely for education—meaning zero interruptions and no outside restaurant noise. Our deep, long-standing relationships with independent winemakers across Italy allow us to source exceptional bottles for curious wine lovers. We combine top-tier professional instruction with a relaxed, approachable atmosphere, keeping the experience light, fresh, and engaging.
All of the wines we pour at VinoRoma are from small independent producers that use a low-intervention, hands-off approach to winemaking. Some use the term "natural wine" but, really, this is the way wine has always been made since the beginning. For us, the chemicals and additives that have made their way into wineries in recent decades in the pursuit of convenience and profit are the real outliers, the "artificial wines", to coin a term. We wouldn't do that to you ;)
History
Established in 2008.
VinoRoma Wine Studio was founded with a clear mission: to share the authentic, unfiltered story of Italian wine with curious visitors from around the globe. As Rome’s oldest dedicated wine tasting studio, we are proud to be the only provider focusing exclusively on low-intervention wines from small, independent producers. Hosted in a private room designed solely for wine education, our tastings offer an intimate, uninterrupted space to discover Italy’s true artisanal viticulture.
Meet the Business Owner: Maurizio D.
Maurizio was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, by Italian-born parents, discovering his passion for traditional Italian food and wine while working in his family’s restaurant. After studying Italian language and culture at university—and falling in love with the Italian lifestyle during a semester abroad in Florence—he made the permanent move to Rome in 2009 to immerse himself entirely in the culinary world.
After completing his professional sommelier education with the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS), Maurizio joined VinoRoma, eventually taking ownership of the studio in 2021. Today, he channels his deep expertise into leading the city's premier wine courses, tastings, and regional tours. When he isn't traveling to visit independent vineyards across Italy, Maurizio is usually found around a table with family and friends, sharing a great meal alongside an exceptional natural wine, craft beer, or classic cocktail.
