If your child is struggling with an eating disorder do not give them the disservice of being put through a place as horrible as this. This was by far the most traumatic experience of my life, in September of 2025 I was admitted to the adolescence res, I was told I would be there for 6-8 weeks and that I would only receive the best care, I ended up being there for 12 weeks and I was doing so much worse than when I got there. the profesional staff does not care about your wellbeing a bit, your supervised all day by college students. The other patients can be weird or dangerous and the medical care is horrible. Multiple patients had unknown allergic reactions in the dining room, too the point where one was sent to the ER for anaphylaxis, they never figured out what was causing all of the reactions at all, they are still happening. A patient with heart palpitations was given a minimum dose of ibuprofen and then ignored by nursing staff for 2 days while crying in her room bedridden. They gave any patient a feeding tube no matter they're weight or situation if they didn't eat for long enough, and they included 10 year olds or younger in inappropriate groups, waking the children up at 6:30 am and only allowed to go to bed at 10:45 pm minimum. Multiple personal items were "lost" when being handled by staff. They search your rooms every week, throw out personal belongings, and read your diaries. The hygiene was horrible. Bugs, hair, and dirt were found in the food. Patients with allergies were overlooked and then punished for not finishing the meal. The showers didnt work, there were only about 7 working showers on a unit holding usually 16-18 patients, they were never cleaned and they gave me a foot fungus no joke, and there is hair and vomit stains over the carpet that they never cleaned. My therapist was bad and was constantly ignoring any needs I had and I was only able to see her for one 45 minute session per week. My dietitian was extremely judgy and rude and refused to accommodate for my meal plan when it made me sick, telling me to just suck it up. As patients we were completely disrespected and overlooked by all staff. These were the hardest 12 weeks of my life. Also theyir PHP program is horrible, there's barely any patients and the time spent there is equivalently horrible to res but they still don't let you go to school or the outside world barely ever. I was never included on details of MY treatment plan, I was called sensitive, or overreactive but in reality I was hurting, unheard, and terrified. Hi, I'm a past patient who was there during the summer of this year. JULY 2025 - SEP 2025 I have SO many things to say about this place, but this is gonna be an actual HONEST review from a ACTUAL patient. I was in the Child & Adolescent residential unit. I'm going to list out my pros and my cons HONESTLY. CONS 1. There was a fly in the lettuce on our burger one night during dinner. This was obviously EXTREAMLY distressing to other paitents, who are litterly in there for like EATING. Like, not once have I been out at a restaurant and even AT HOME had a fly on my food. It's the bare minimum for the ERC to have clean food for the patients with eating disorders who already don't wanna eat. When this was brought up to leadership during community group one day, the clinical director for C&A RES said that we can "Ask for a new one" and to "Stop bringing it up or else I am signing phase cards" (A form of punishment in the treatment center. Signatures on the cards negatively impact your progress to phasing up. ) She then told patients that we needed to not talk about it amungst ourselves aswell. 2. Staff are inconsistent with the rules. Some staff enforce some rules and other staff enforce others. It really just depends on who you are talking to. Strict staff means that typically the patients may dislike them more than more leanient staff memebers. In "bistro", some staff memebers are more strict around the portions of meal supliment. 3. Everything is falling apart. There is dust everywhere, sometimes a few showers wont work or one is too cold, lights not turning on, weird smells, stains on the carpet, and hair everywhere. I mean everywhere. It's in the puzzle pieces, it's in books, cracks in the chairs, stuck to the walls, so. much. hair. I have so many more, but im lazy to type out all of them, so theres some good ones. PROS: I went in there because I reached a breaking point and knew I had to get better. I think that is the BIGGEST reason for 95% of these pros. 1. It lowkey fixxed my reltationshop with food? If you try, like actually put your all into treeatment I truely believe you can get better. That's how I got better. I ate foods that I hate and wouldnt have touched before, but because i wanted to get out so bad I ate them anyways, and that mentality is what got me out. 2. Some of the staff were amazing. After a difficult day where you just feel like you have to fucking break down, you could always do a check-in with staff, and it always made me feel a little bit better. You had to pick the right staff, though, because some staff are horrible at check-ins. (Check-ins are small on one moments with staff that you can use to vent/rant, and they can give u advice.) The limit set by ERC leadership says check ins can only be up to 5 min, which is so weird but okay. The good staff, at least the ones that seemed like they cared about you, had longer check ins and gave you some good heartfelt advice or a laugh, and it lightened up some of your day. 3. Taught me skills I can use in everyday life. The groups, if you actually participate and like journal and interact in the groups, then YES they are actually helpfull. I did this for most of my stay at ERC and it allowed me to process the information and apply to to my life in there. Even though its not truely my life, it's an environment where you can apply the skills. 4. The ERC has a very controlled environment! Most of staff are stern about a majroirty of the rules, which in my opinion is amazing. Some rules they are stern about are like not talking about topics that are inappropriate, I would describe their ideal patient talk to everybody and act as if everyone is a coworker, and like u dont really know them so you cant talk about politics or relationships, and things of that sort. regarding adult residential treatment: first, the photos you see here are from the top floor, which belongs to the youth patients, and some were taken when erc was on an entirely different property, so those nature pictures, disregard. the adult floor looks at the overlake hospital campus and driveway. no matter. also, as a patient, you are not allowed to take photos, let alone publish them, which is why there are so few to be found. the adult unit is small. it's decently tidy, but not clinical level spic and span. there are things one will encounter every day that are trying, unfair, etcetera, But! where it gets good - if you want to heal and change, the care team of professionals to whom you'll be assigned and the extent of therapy you'll receive is more than any other treatment that i've encountered, including sud treatment and mh inpatient. the food is poor. be warned. i guess if you can make peace with it, one is off to a good start with better access to better food outside of residential. this facility is Not Easy. it brought me to tears many times. it angered me. it also forever changed me. if you're willing to (re)learn about yourself, keep an open mind, remember nothing's perfect and this isn't going to be fun in any circumstances, and know that it will be worth it if you hold on. do it for you. pro tips: be ready to advocate for yourself. speak up, (when and where appropriate). definitely bring ear buds, your own 4" charger(s)/USB block(s), post-it's and a hi-lighter are nice creature comforts. you got this. i didn't come out *healed*, this place isn't magical, but i came out changed for the better. it was worth it. read more

If your goal is to be weight restored and nothing else than ERC is for you. However if you want to actually learn to re enter the real world then ERC is not for you. My time at ERC in the adolescent program was the worst time of my life. Not only did the staff make me feel horrible but they were NOT understanding. If you disliked a food, it would be put onto your meal plan because they always assumed it was a "fear food". The staff did not watch my group at all. The amount of things that happened and were said behind their backs was absurd. People flashing each other and drugs to name a few. This was NOT a recovery based environment. ERC kicked me and a couple people out for something we were accused of and did not do. They refused to listen to our side of the story and left us with NO treatment. My parents were livid. The staff always said it was a recovery based environment and "trauma informed" but the amount of times my group had been yelled at, artwork taken off the walls. Was NOT okay. There were many times where calories were left on my food at bistro and I did not receive therapy after. An instance where another patient was actively self harming during meal time and we received no therapy for that. Another couple other times where extremely triggering things were said and the staff did NOTHING to stop it. Many times where the staff did not take care of me in the PHP level. I would faint or not have engaged in food for a couple days and would not be given medical attention. When the protocol was to send me to the ER, they sent me home and told my parents nothing. Many situations where my parents would take me to the hospital after treatment and notify ERC and no doctor would check up on me. One day in particular where my body was failing me on a weekend and there was no doctor to help me in a place FULL of doctors and the PRO-T's had to put me in a wheelchair and wait 5 hours until program had ended. Overall if I could rate this place negative stars I would. And it's not just me, EVERY SINGLE PERSON in my group has been traumatized from ERC. Do NOT send your loved ones here. read more

I was here for a month and it was the worst experience ever. This place is not structured for long term recovery, only restoring weight. They would force people to eat until they threw up, leaving everyone else disgusted, and you weren't allowed to talk about it at all. You also weren't allowed to talk about anything personal or eating disorder related to your peers, so there was no support from the only people who actually understand. My care team was completely useless. They never told me anything i could do to improve and just said that my team can let me know, so i went around the room and asked each one of them if they had anything notes or help for me and they all said no. like what the fuck. all of the groups about body positivity or whatever were all the same, they just teach you emotional regulation in arguments and things similar to that,. nothing about eating disorders or actual help. you just learn the same thing everyday multiple times a day. One of the worst parts is that you are never allowed to stand. you have to be sitting down constantly. any type of movement can cause your phase card to be signed. you aren't even allowed to stretch besides your arms occasionally. My dietician was a master gaslighter, she ignored every valid concern i had, and gaslight my mom too. also the only times you get pulled to see your team is during school and never during the useless groups so i almost didn't graduate because of that. Almost everybody there was failing their classes. The food also was so disgusting and would often have hair or dirt in our water, and the when we talked to the boss lady about she just gaslit us some more and said nothing can be done about it and to stop talking about it. I was in the residential, PHP and IOP there from January to June 2024 and not only did I experience deeply traumatic things, but I was rushed out because it was overcrowded. My therapist Sanya was by far the best therapist I have ever had. She matched my energy and made me feel seen. The other staff however were quite careless about my needs, there were never enough BHC's to kids ratio and we were always late for something. I picked up new behaviors and hated myself while I was there, they only focused on weight restoration and not mental wellbeing. The groups are just a distraction to get through the day. read more

the workers here are some of the most imcompetent inconsiderate people i have genuinely ever met. not only do they NOT know what they're doing, but they ignore all medical problems because they believe the patients are faking. a patients blood pooled to her feet, she nearly had a seizure, what did they do? yell at everyone to not touch her. i had uncontrollable vomiting and a stomach tear, i had to smash my head into the wall for days and days until they had even considered letting me go to the hospital where they then said on the amr for me to not say anything. they wouldn't leave the room when they were doing the home safety questions too. also, mind you, on my notes it said i had ZERO signs of an eating disorder. NONE. they wanted to keep me there for month. they left my room disgusting with vomit all over the floor, wall, and bed. they wouldnt let me lay down after vomiting and falling over because apparently that counts as faking too. they don't care for their patients, they will lie and say they did but at the end of the day they just want the doctor label to feel good about themselves, not to benefit anyone else. i wasn't allowed outside, they don't let you call anyone, don't care for you medically, invade your space constantly, and they force these worn out, malnourished, exhausted people to sit in bright classrooms while they drill "body positivity" like that genuinely had ever helped anyone. they only finally gave up my information to my therapist after threatens of court, there was a cps case filed too. i went on a speaking strike for 3 days before someone tried to talk to me. they do not know how to genuinely treat mental health issues, because when handed one that wasnt stereotypical depression, they had no clue what to do. also, they constantly misgendered the transgender patients there. and just a small fyi, eating disorders, especially anorexia, are extremely competitive. you do not help anyone by having them all do weigh ins and making them watch eachother eat. fuck you read more

I took my partner to this place we planed to do the 24.7 one for 6 weeks first day that we went in we did some paperwork i asked them if in emergency situation they can take my partner to the ER in overlake and they said yes we will do that if necessary and we have a physician in our facility I requested to talk to the physician she came in to the room and I started to explain (with a normal tone) about my partner's physical condition and she completely cuts me off and didn't allow me to completely explain the issue my partner had and they left the room couple hours later around 7pm my partner called me crying seeking for my help she had a 9/10 a real physical pain in her stomach she threw up on her bed without doing anything and she had chest pain and i asked her if the physician is there she said they told her the physician is not there and they asked her to take Tylenol instead of taking her to ER i asked her if she can walk out and go to er in overlake she told me they don't allow her so i driven all the way to Bellevue and took her out of ERC and took her to ER and been in ER until 3AM i asked her if she been treated well she said not really she didn't feel comfortable with them at all and told me most if the patient over there deal a lot more than just eating disorder and they were not communicative at all: the day after we went there took her stuff and withdrawal from ERC in the office i asked the desk if the physician is there that i can just tell her if she listened to me about my partners stomach condition none of this would have happened but she had some attitude issues and they told me she isn't there and the we left the ERC few hours later her parents contacted us that cops went their place for a welfare check on my partner( that prices me off ) i have been always a super gentle person towards my partner few minutes later an officer called me and i asked them why and who called 911 for a welfare check and they told me ERC and they talked to my partner isn't that funny? They literally harassed you do a welfare check when you think someone is in danger situation and you have to describe the situation I don't even know how and what they came up with but i know they have cameras and they capture voices to and cops like to keep the calls recorded i'm 100% going to lawsuit this facility for harassment and not taking my partner to the ER when it was absolutely necessary it might have been a serious fatal situation for her chest pain. 9/10 abdominal pain / throwing up and they still took 40 minutes to get her ready and allow me to take her to ER if you love and care about your family and beloved ones don't take them here read more

I would not advise going to ERC unless you need to be medically stabilized and weight restored (both of which I needed and achieved). I went in when my eating disorder was at its worst. The medical component to the treatment I needed was taken care of and I was very closely monitored, which is good. In all other psych aspects, don't expect any resolution to pre existing psychological disorders that may accompany the eating disorder. And if you have severe PTSD please, please, I am begging you find a different program. Or go to ERC and once you're medically stabilized and weight restored, leave. fast. The way the went about handling my cPTSD and severe flashbacks and dissociative episodes was absolutely horrific and completely retraumatizing. I begged and begged for them to discharge me so I didn't have to go AMA. They finally did. I am home now, still struggling with eating because one thing (possibly the most important piece of ed treatment) is that they never prepare you for how to re-enter and function and keep eating healthily in society. They don't teach you how to maintain recovery outside of those hospital walls. I have dealt with severe trauma in my life so I would never EVER use the words trauma/traumatic lightly. But i can confidently say that ERC traumatized me even more than I already was before walking in to those doors. Like I said, I just got home yesterday and I have just now had the time to start processing everything I went through at ERC. And it's hitting me hard. I am in a deep deep depression. Much deeper than when I walked in those ERC doors. Again, if you need medical stabilization and to weight restore, this place will get the job done and quite well. My team did the best they could with what they knew but their approach was traumatizing. I wish I had gone, and once I was stabilized and weight restored, I so desperately wish I had left at that point because the harm just continued. And make no mistake, I am not talking about the eating food part. That's obviously a very important piece to the journey of recovering from an eating disorder. And I was eventually able to complete full meal portions. That's not the traumatizing part I am talking about. It's their lack of knowledge on literally ANY other psychiatric disorders and diagnoses and that is so beyond my comprehension. Also, if this says anything, I am a very complex case with a host of other severe diagnoses. All this to say, I am currently on the waitlist for another program that focuses more on eating disorders coexisting with trauma and dissociative related disorders. I can't speak for everyone, obviously. However this is just my honest experience from my 3 months stay at ERC - Dallas. read more

This place is HORRIBLE. Do NOT go here if you value not being abused. In January 2022 I attended this program to reach the required bmi to have spine surgery. The patients who were all white literally ganged up on me (African) going out of their way to make me feel unwelcome. The treatment team not only sided with the bigots but claimed I was the one discriminating against them for rightfully pointing out their behavior was racist. On top of all that the psychiatric doctor made me go all day without my five pain medications and I was literally on my knees sobbing in pain. When I told my therapist Heather that I hope her kids get treated like I was under her care she literally accused me (a black person) of threatening her and her family. This place is ran by legitimate sadists. If you care about not being abused and discriminated against I highly recommend you find another program. Center For Discovery and The Emily Program (both offering residential and PHP care in WA) would never have tolerated such bigotry and racist behavior in staff and residents. read more

Initially, I thought Eating Recovery Center was a very beneficial program, until I decided to advocate for my needs as I began to take my recovery more seriously. First, they don't address any underlying issues until you begin to restore weight, because, "you need nutrition to think more logically." It's a catch 22 when they want you to eat, but won't provide help to get to the underlying reasons as to why one might refuse food. Second, most everything you do is chalked up to a behavior of your eating disorder. Standing in line waiting for meds? You get scolded for excessive standing. Stopped eating dinner because you're so full since your body isn't yet used to eating as much? It's assumed you're purposefully restricting your meal. Choosing the similar foods for meals, since you're a human with preferences? You'll get talked to about how you're only choosing "safe foods." Third, you're told that recovery isn't a linear process, but if you don't fit the mold of the program trajectory, they'll still eventually discharge you from. I was actively self harming, restricting, and mentioned suicidal thoughts when my discharge date was determined. Fourth, when you engage in eating disorder behaviors, they aren't usually met with empathy. I recall being barked at during snack to "pick up my fork, and take a bite right now," for nearly the entire duration of the snack. Not only was it utterly humiliating with others sitting around me listening in, but I was struggling with my own internal eating disorder thoughts. I broke down crying at the table, and the tone didn't change. No support was offered after the snack, which truly emulates various other meals and snacks. Furthermore, the patients are very triggering. I feel as though I accumulated more eating disorder behaviors through observation. All in all, I think the only benefits of this program were a handful of skills (that I could have learned in an outpatient setting) and medical stabilization. read more

I went to the Moore Center over 5 years ago. My mom was desperate to get me help and paid the big bucks to get me enrolled in their out patient program. The Moore Center was not for me. I found Mary Moore, the founder/lead therapist to be extremely cold. I never felt like I was able to make a good connection with her. The treatment here was not the individualized treatment they had promised and I expected. After 4 visits I realized the program was not the right setting for me. I feel I left the Moore center in worse shape then when I had started their program. Fortunately I was lucky enough to find a one-on-one therapist who was a good fit for me and helped me get my life back on track. read more

Please find another treatment center to go to.  I was here (adult unit) for three months and patients feed off of each other in negative ways.  I left worse off.  Not to mention the fact that I was traumatized by the way I was treated.  I experienced a very scary incident where one of the staff members lost it and became physically and verbally abusive with me.  Unfortunately no one else saw what happened.  When she realized what she did, she ran out of the building and I never saw her again after that.  I ended up calling the police to report it.  I am still traumatized by this horrific experience. read more

My daughter was a patient for 8 months. The treatment plan was a challenge that required unmeasurable dedication from both of us. What I was not aware of were the personality clashes and favoritism demonstrated by staff. As a result, my daughter's treatment was abruptly terminated. We are now struggling to keep her ED at bay. We each have some of the tools necessary to be successful, but not nearly enough it would seem. It is sort of like we received training to take off in an aircraft but not how to land. read more

PLEASE READ THE NON-RECOMMENDED REVIEWS AS THEY HAVE A LOT OF INSIGHT INTO THE PROGRAM AS WELL I was in the youth residential program and it was one of the worst times of my life. ERC is very single minded in its treatment, they only treat eating disorders one way and if you don't fit well into that mold you will be so miserable there. The staff is incredibly variable, some are very kind but some are downright patronizing. Staff are allowed to wear fit bits and sometimes talk about inappropriate topics with other staff members which was very triggering for me and the other patients. They offer practically no support for co-occurring disorders, so if you are struggling with depression, anxiety, or any other condition, do not expect support in those areas. I saw Dr. Chenoweth while I was there and she made me feel like I wasn't a priority at all. If you are struggling but you are expressing it through negative coping mechanisms you will only receive anger and disappointment from staff. It's hilarious almost because they act so surprised and upset if you attempt to engage in eating disorder behaviours when they're literally treating you for only that. When I was there, I was engaging in a lot of unhealthy behaviours because of the stress the program put me through, and a lot of my disordered eating behaviours in particular got exponentially worse. There was very little compassion from the staff. The food there is also very mediocre and sometimes outright inedible, which seems unethical for an eating disorder treatment center. When I was there, a chicken dish gave three patients food poisoning and they were throwing up all the time for days on end. The staff tried to pass it off as a ED behaviour and did not contact the patient's guardians. They were made to attend groups after that even though they frequently left to throw up. It was such a triggering thing for everyone in residential that week and diminished our respect for the staff even more than it already was. All of the patients agreed that the staff were mistreating us. They had to send me to the hospital eventually because I was very unstable in other aspects of my mental health, but they did it by calling the police close to midnight and rushing me out of the facility. They did not let me get any of my things from my room and they wouldn't let me say goodbye to staff members. They were very cold towards me and when I asked them to tell the other patients that I was okay they said they can't make promises and that I shouldn't expect that to happen. It felt really bad after I arrived at the hospital to be told that ERC didn't want me back so I would have to be admitted there. I felt neglected and hated by the people who were supposed to be caring for me. To summarize, I had an incredibly traumatizing experience there and it really destroyed my faith in the mental health treatment systems. If you can, avoid this place, you'll probably be better off if you don't attend. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Moore's for over 23 years now, on and off. Originally I was her patient long ago at Ballard Community Hospital (now Swedish) and more recently at The Moore Center in Bellevue. Dr Moore is and was always a caring therapist that listened well and helped me get back on track. Her calming quality and gentle ways have been exactly the treatment I needed. She is, simply put, the best in her field. I honestly don't know where I'd be without her. Although I still battle eating disorders she never loses hope for me in fighting this long standing condition. It takes a lot of personal work, personal accountability, and the yearning to get well but the staff at The Moore Center are there to support you along the way. No group of health care professionals have been as helpful as The Moore Center in treating this disease. Thanks for all you do to help me and the others! read more

Honestly I have fought with the staff there and claimed I hated Erc. Though it wasn't me fighting with staff, it was the eating disorder. The clinical director of the adult program, Jenna is super straightforward and a teddy bear at the same time. She cares about her clients that come in for treatment. I've been here since October 2016, and had various therapists and dieticians. And they all know what they're doing and truly care about us, the patients. Not about getting money out of us. They do cool things that are helpful to prepare us for the real world. I have saved my life coming to Erc. read more

My daughter left there worse off than when she started. She said the residential treatment is pretty good but the PHP was terrible, chaotic and inconsistent. The staff ignored her pleas for help when she complained of a sore throat on three separate occasions. We flew her home and took her straight to the doctor where she tested positive for strep throat. It's a shame that no one would listen to her. Additionally when she returned home she weighed less than when she started the program, and her mental state was much worse. read more

PHP at this place was a hortid experience. The food was totally inedible...I'm not even saying that from a disordered standpoint...like over cooked, mush that was either bland af, or so salty that it was inedible...and you are knocked down a peg for not only not finishing but also if you don't finish and DO drink the supplement. That is pretty rude and infact disordered in and of itself...many of us ate food that was just plain gross to avoid punitive action. They used Sodexo food services which is pretty popular among schools and prisons. Their favorite modality of therapy was ACT...acceptance and commitment therapy...and if you're a fan of skill based DBT forget it. I highly recommend this place if you enjoy being physically uncomfortable at all times...the building didn't seem to gave working heat in the middle of winter...if the heat was functional, it was going straight out the single pane windows serving as walls in most of the building. Therapists are amazing. Dietician staff is awesome. Front desk staff were always helpful and made sure the check in and check out rules were followed. Our loved one felt that the BHC staff was caring and compassionate. Billing department gets an F. We repeatedly asked for an itemized bill, (I always double check), called Bellevue, called Denver, asked in person in Bellevue. The staff member from billing told me as a layperson-I wouldn't understand the bill if I got a copy. I requested a copy from a staff member from California. I finally got a copy in Feb. my child entered treatment Aug 31. Our loved one had many setbacks due to improper phosphorus numbers, collection and medical staff knowledge base. Dr. C was a great listener and seemed to genuinely care about our concerns. Changes were made to my loved ones care were immediately seen. I was in PHP and then they moved me residential. I overeat and so for me to not eat the food there you know there is something wrong. The best breakfast I got was 1/2 of a dry english muffin, hard boiled egg, and milk. The eggs were cold and the english muffin was stale. So I had a hard time there. I am supposed to be working on my mental health issues, my eating disorder and doing school work? Seriously, that is way to much stress on a person with mental health problems. A few of us decided to leave residential. That do not have enough staff workers and the ones they did have were always talking to each other about how the place and the kids sucked so the kids it hear. It was incredibly easy to leave because nobody was around to watch us. We just walked out on the eighth floor, took the elevator down to the street level and walked out. Nobody tried to get us. I went back since I realized it was a bad decision and the next day they kicked me out telling my parents I need a higher level of care they could not provide. They told my dad to pick me up by noon. They gave him my meds saying they would call in refills because I was almost out. They didn't even after my mom called them. So I am now struggling because they did not give my parents any guidance. My parents found a place for me to go but ERC would not send my packet over so I lost the slot. I am suicidal at this point. They knew I have bouts where I am suicidal but did not care and just kicked me out without any other treatment options. They sent two referrals, one has about a year waiting list and don't take suicidal kids. The other one doesn't take kids with eating disorders. The only thing that stops me from killing myself is the intense misery I know I would cause my family. ERC took a lot of money from my mom and dad and our insurance and didn't do anything to help. Bottom line, don't send your kid here because they won't get the help they need. They seem to only care about money. There is little staff and the staff they have talk bad about everything. The only good thing there was I had a good therapist who I liked but didn't do a damn thing to help after they kicked me out read more

My daughter learned bad habits from other patients at ERC. Her condition is far worse than it was a year ago. They psychologist was very impatient and told my daughter that she should just be committed. Her depression was not addressed or helped at this program. She said all they did was make her gain weight and then kicked her out. She continued with the outpatient program there, which involved no personal interaction. Absolutely no support. We received a call a year later asking how she was doing. A little too late. Please never consider this as an option. I cringe whenever the ERC name pops up on a list. Stay away. I owe my life to this place, so I don't feel that I can get too critical, but I'll review them honestly. Pros: They were very understanding about my unique scheduling needs. They worked out a more than reasonable payment arrangement for my income needs. Some of the staff showed a genuine interest in their patients' recovery and had a passion for their choice in career paths. Cons: I wasn't informed 'till last minute that my insurance had run out, making the transition out of treatment unnecessarily hard to deal with. When I left the Moore Center, my email requests for follow up with my physicians were totally ignored, as if I had never been a patient at all. Dr. Mehri Moore was cold and downright frightening. Some of the staff seemed little concerned with anything other than their careers or "being right." While I understand the severity of the diseases they are treating, the atmosphere was overly dramatic at times and lightheartedness was not taken well by some of the staff. I had reached out to them several months ago. I was contacted and started the admission process. Questionnaire, insurance run, & an hour long distressing interview. I gave them my therapist & doctor info and they told me they would complied everything with a team & get back to me... That was over 6 months ago, never heard a thing. With a friend of mine entering treatment elsewhere I again thought maybe I should too. So I contacted them asking what the heck happened after my assessment. After a second email, Joanne(who I spoke with the first time around) told me she would start the admission process again if I'm interested. Okay obviously I was interested but not starting over after they had already done the admission process once. How am I suppose to be confident that my stuff won't fall to the wayside again?!?! Maybe one day I'll get the help I need but it certainly won't be from here! read more

I was a patient at Eating Recovery Center of Washington in 2013 back when it was called The Moore Center. I was in iop and PHP. Parts of the program were hit and miss. Within the PHP program there seemed to be a lot promised that wasn't necessarily delivered. For example, I was still a high school student needing help with math homework I was doing while there. Nobody was able to help me. I was surprised by how much of our time was unstructured, which I remember using to call my mom and cry. We had time for "art therapy" which was basically self-directed time with paper and crayons. The chronic depression at the root of my eating disorder might've benefitted from psychotropic medication but contact with a psychiatrist was very limited. Some staff were good, some not so good. I recognize that this review may not reflect current ERC happenings because it is under new ownership and these observations are five years old. However, I write this with the hope that these improvements have been made, and if not, this feedback is taken into consideration. read more

i got out of the ercwa program on January 13th, 2022. while i was there it was absolutely horrible. the only reason i barely got through it is because of the other patients there. i was on the child and adolescents floor. let me tell you. if you are looking to go to this program or send your kid into the program, please let them read the reviews first and try to find another program. but of course, if you need it, go to it. i found all types of stuff in my food. hairs, nails, inedible things in my smoothies. someone once found a dead caterpillar in their dinner. the people who did school were way to strict, and the treatment teams wouldn't listen to us. i went in with trauma and came out with even more. the people there lost my shoes and hoodie, and they also lost someones WHOLE!!! closet. yet they still acted clueless. some of the staff there gave me really off vibes. osi, a former(i hope??) BHC, brought her toddler into the unit, and ran through the halls. community was hell, specifically in res and the couple weeks before i stepped down. there had been drama going around lately, and all of us were being accused for being scared. im not saying this will happen if you end up going, but it might. please, be safe. we love you. read more

There are serious questions about the integrity of this program. It may in fact be a scam. My daughter is critically ill with anorexia, and she was hopeful about this place. My wife and daughter repeatedly asked it my insurance would cover the program. 3 separate occasions this was asked, and every time, the patient coordinator insisted that they had cleared it with my insurance company. They asked for $500 dollars up front and signed my daughter up for the program. They then sent her to Overlake hospital for lab work. Then the nasty surprises started. The entire $1200 lab bill came back from our insurance at EXLUDED due to diagnosis of anorexia. I called the insurance company and they informed me that The Moore Center had indeed called, but they had notes and a recording of the call clearly informing The Moore Center that my employer specifically has excluded all eating disorder treatment from the insurance plan. I then contacted The Moore Center, and they were SHOCKED!! I asked them to call my insurance company again, and then they called me back and said that amazingly, I was right and there was no coverage. They then dropped my Daughter from the program without any guidance on alternatives. This does not feel like a "mistake" but an intentional misrepresentation. Perhaps they thought I was one of the rich Bellevue parents that would do anything they would guilt me into coughing up the $20k after they roped us in. I'm very happy with the treatment that I received in my 12 week Intensive Outpatient Program at the Moore Center. The treatment plan was very comprehensive and addressed all parts of my eating disorder. With the tools, therapy, and encouragement that I received from the center, I feel confident that I will not return to the ED behaviors that I had before going to the center. read more

For four years I suffered with severe anorexia. When I first started treatment (not at the moore center) it turned quickly into a more easily disguisable disorder, bulimia. When this was discovered I was rushed to the moore center's partial hospitalization program. I stayed at this level of care for three months. It takes quite a while to get friendly with the staff, this is something that needs to be taken into consideration. While some therapists and nutritionists are very friendly, their head of nutrition was someone I was very glad not to have on my personal treatment team. The diet-techs are the most lovely amazing women I have ever met, they just take a while to warm up to. I would certainly call them if I were to start struggling again. They made me believe in recovery. read more

Eating disorders are hard to treat! My PHP and IOP team are at the top of their game; they know their research; they care; and it helped. They want what is best for each individual. They were advocates for me when I could not be. I am not done with my recovery. I am done with my treatment at ERC. I would recommend them to anybody. Again, ED is hard to treat AND not impossible. The Moore Center makes big claims but fails to follow through. The therapy is not tailored to the individual. Our daughter has been in the PHP. She only gets 2 hours of individualized therapy a week. If we have family therapy that eliminates an hour. That is ridiculous when you are in a space 7 days a week/12 hrs a day. The therapist never calls, never communicates, and transition out is a disaster. It is a setup for readmission. We feel manipulated and our daughter definitely is not being helped with reality. Our marriage is hurt as is our family. Moore Center is not what it claims, even if people do recover from ED they don't prepare for life with others. read more

I would not recommend Eating Recovery Center (ERC) to anyone - not family, not friends, etc. From knowing people who have gone through the program, and from knowing people who have worked there, ERC is a corporate entity attempting to provide mental health care to people suffering from eating disorders. Staff are overworked, under-supported, and highly under-trained/under-qualified, program leadership is abysmal, and patient-care is not a priority - money flow is (budget cuts, random layoffs, etc.). On a national level, ERC is inefficiently run, and the main investor has been looking to back out for several months. In terms of patient-care, there is no flexibility in the treatment of individual patients; meaning, if you seek treatment for anything other than "textbook" anorexia or bulimia, ERC does not have the clinical expertise or bandwidth to be able to provide targeted treatment for those diagnoses (as much as they may attempt to convince you that they do). If you are looking for comprehensive, cutting-edge, research-supported, compassionate, holistic, and professional treatment for your eating disorder, do not come to ERC. read more

My daughter has suffered with ED for 10 years. She is currently 24 and went briefly to the Moore Center when she was 18. I was very confused about ED but supported my daughter with her struggles. Every Friday was family night and would meet as a group in a circular setting. It was designed to have everyone participate. Most of the girls were supported by their mothers and only a few fathers attended. In the meetings I attended there were allot of angry women and it appeared allot of blame was directed towards fathers that encouraged their daughters to be high achievers. I also noticed that the girls were so sensitive you weren't aloud to express your self. The setting is very controlled and the sensitivity radiates with mostly insecure girls. Whats wrong is regardless of the level of mental illness girls are but together and the treatment is the same. Girls are expected to communicate at the level of the lowest common denominator. Some girls are so sick that it's crazy to have them integrated with the group. It would be like teaching a math class designed to the child with the lowest test scores. In my opinion the Moore Center encourages a false sense of reality and will make parents feel guilty if they don't fork out what ever amount of renumeration it takes. The Moore center will not make your daughter a strong independent women that can take care of her self but rather someone that feels the need to stay in a controlled setting safe and away from the rest of society. read more
