This groovy new hotel on Brisbane's Northside is becoming a very popular hotspot with the younger crowd. It recently won an award for the 'Best Overall Hotel in Queensland - 2011'. On Friday and Saturday nights the place goes off with live DJs and hundreds of people getting their funk on (me included!). The beer garden has quite a relaxed atmosphere - especially late in the afternoon, on weekends there is usually someone playing live acoustic guitar. There are 9 bars in total including a rooftop bar which is really cool. The hotel is also one of Brisbane's new live music venues. I recently saw Pete Murray here in the Grand Ballroom (he was sensational - so very sexy!!) which is just beautiful - very similar to the Tivoli Theatre. Good Charlotte also played a gig in October and I believe Jimmy Barnes is scheduled in late January. The food in the bistro is good (the chicken schnitzel is a MONSTER) - I have heard that they do a killer breakfast on Sunday mornings. The décor is stunning. Earthy tones, natural timber and loads of natural light. I think what I love most about this place though is its green star rating - I am stoked that so many new businesses are making the move towards environmental sustainability.

The EH as it is affectionately known has become the new 'local' for lots of people in this area of Brisbane. The north side was lacking a major centre like this for a long time. It caters for everyone with a large outdoor area with a big screen, massive bar, TAB and then a restaurant with a dedicated kids room. Friday and Saturday nights the bar area turns into somewhat of a Night Club and it can get very busy!! I think they are still working out some kinks in the restaurant area and have had a few mix ups the times I have been there but the food is good. I wouldn't say its the best pub / restaurant food but its not far off. Personally I'd love to see the Steak Sandwich on the dinner menu!! The outdoor areas are awesome!! The big screen area is perfect for watching Sport on a Sunday arvo. The whole centre is built around a magnificent tree and there are verandas situated so you can basically sit right under it. All in all its a great place and will only get better with time!!

Food very average! Management very average! Customer service very average. Prices don't match the sub standard.

Nice enough venue for a drink. Pretty sure I got food poisoning there so don't think I'll risk a return visit to the restaurant.

I'd been waiting for my next inter-state trip to Queensland to finally come visit this brewery and…read moreI was not disappointed! The brewery is located in an industrial park about 25-30mins drive outside of Brisbane CBD (approx. $50 cab ride or $40 UberX oneway). We were pleasantly surprised to find the brewery buzzing when we arrived, a game of Cornhole underway in the front outdoor area, tables filled with beer paddles & a food truck (Puerto Taco) churning out delicious tacos to make sure we had a stomach lining while we tasted all their delicious beer. The inside bar/brewery/seating area is cozy, tables adorned with lamps made from old ten pin bowling pins, a games area upstairs as well as other board games to master at your tables while you drink. The bar itself has plenty of taps meaning they can have plenty of rotating beers on show and also keep a decent bottle list for dine-in or takeaway too. And of course this leads me to their beer, I was already a fan before I arrived but Bacchus put out some really creative & interesting craft beers, meaning you'll more than likely find something to drink whether you're a beer snob, beer n00b or non-beer drinker (everyone has to try the Lamington Dark Ale, the nose alone will sweep you away to Lamington-land :p).

There are heavy curtains hanging and behind one lot of curtains was the pool table. Tables and chairs a plenty so your sure to get a seat. They have a small nibble menu and the Italian meatballs were full of flavour and came out in this cute cast iron frypan with bread on the side. I ordered a Peroni beer and fell over backwards as it arrived in a 500ml glass. They also had a special going that is you order a pizza and two 300 ml Peroni beers you pay $25. This cafe wine beer bar had friendly staff and is an Italian bar. Definitely worth a visit if you want to meet up with friends over a quiet drink.

I recently learned that Howard Wright-- a major investor and director of this establishment--was…read morefined for driving "in a dangerous manner" in an incident that involved a 12-year-old boy on an e-bike. A joke of a punishment for the crime. On video you can see this sick man speed up in a Audi, intentionally, to hit a child on a bike on the side of the road out of traffic. He proceeds to scream at the child, while the child pleaded for his life. I hope karma does her magic. Even more concerning is how Mr. Wright seemed to justify his actions by blaming the child's bike as "illegal," rather than genuinely acknowledging the danger and illegality his own driving posed. I expect higher ethical standards and community responsibility from anyone at the helm of a hospitality business. While the restaurant itself may serve somewhat average food or drinks, I personally cannot support an establishment whose leadership shows such disregard for safety and empathy--especially when a young child's wellbeing is at stake. Until clear accountability and genuine remorse are demonstrated, I'll be dining elsewhere. If you care about patronizing businesses that reflect your values, I would encourage you to consider taking your money and support elsewhere, too. The experience at these venues sucked before these events occurred too, every other option nearby provide a way better experience. Terrible for family photos. Terrible lighting

Formally an access alley to the bike shop next door, Cardigan Bar's atmosphere is laid back and welcoming. Cardigan had amazing beers on tap, fantastic ciders and really good wine. The service couldn't be more friendly and relaxed and the live music is great. It's not trying to do everything, which is what I love about it. Food options are limited to cheese and olives which is really all you need for a relaxed afternoon or evening. But if you do get a little more hungry, the Thai place next door is happy to deliver take away to your table, or you can bring in pizza from down the road. The location is central and easy to get to. Seating is inside, around the bar or out on the footpath. I absolutely love this place.

With a range of craft beers to challenge even the most adventurous Bavarian and a variety of music and artists on any day ending with Y, it is good times on a stick and in a glass. If stale clinical commercial bars and bistros are what your used to then feel free to stay there, because the Cardigan bar is what a bar should be, not designed for seating capacity and bar stools are very crude and impersonal and you have to crowd and push your way to the bar and I for one love it. You wont find your typical dynamic in this place Kitty Kat, although you will find lots of colour and characters to suit and that included the owners and their staff. And watch out for the ceramic eagle.
