Tim has been doing my hair for many years - I wouldn't go anywhere else. I usually arrive early and get to see him working on, or finishing up, the client before me. He does a beautiful job with color and cuts, and I've seen many of his clients getting beautiful extensions which Tim has already colored to match perfectly with their hair. Since moving to Los Angeles from Orange County, my hair has been starving for some TLC. Everyone knows that your hair dresser is one of your life long friends, and I was finding it incredibly difficult to venture back for a visit to my 7 year hair stylist in Orange County, albeit an hour (or more with traffic) away. It took me several months to face the fantasy that I would make it south for a haircut, and so I did my research on who I might give a try. While perusing Yelp, I felt encouraged by Ecco Hair Studio's reviews, particularly Anna. The positive reviews did not disappoint. To begin with, it is easily accessible from the street in the heart of quaint South Pasadena. Grab a coffee next door on your wait in, don't worry you won't be waiting long. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and poignant. In some hair salons, you always have to be careful of the stuck up, "too good for you" air, however Ecco exudes quality and warmth. The space is surprisingly expansive and well dressed. A salon is truly only as good as its stylists, and Anna was spectacular. Coming from a well nurtured relationship with my previous stylist, I was reluctant to find someone new, but Anna far exceeded my expectations. I thought my previous stylist new my head of hair best, but Anna gave my a luxurious haircut that kept my locks moving without the wind machine (and that's what I like). She is willing to offer any tidbits of knowledge she knows, so that you care for your hair properly, from the round brush, to hair oils... she knows it and has the track record to prove it. I always make my husbands and my appointments with Robin, she takes the time to listen to what we want, and often times has even better suggestions. She always knows when I'm itching for something different, and helps me out before I try to do it myself and ruin my hair. The salon itself is large and is housed in South Pasadena's first bank. I always thought that was pretty cool. The prices for cuts and coloring is affordable, especially when you consider the zip code. Ecco hair studio feels like a spa. I've been coming here for almost 4 years now, which is the longest I've stayed with any hair studio. I like coming to Ecco because it is a very trendy and modern salon with the most friendly workers ever. Parking is always super easy because street parking is plentiful and they have a small private lot. The hair salon has an open-space floor plan and lots of natural lighting. I am always spontaneous with my hair appointments and the staff and my stylist (Mandy) are always incredibly accommodating with my last minute appointments. Appointments aren't required but recommended if you want to request a specific stylist. Mandy is a great stylist. She listens to what I want, and is happy to give her advice if I ask for it. And most importantly, she always delivers! I'm never disappointed with my haircut because I always get what I ask for. Hair cuts are a bit pricey at $70-80 but I think the value of services are worth it. read more

I hate to be the one to give a bad review. This review is completely warranted and must be told. This is your hair for heavens sake! And unfortunately today, I received a complete hack job. You can see by my photos that all the top highlight mistakes were made. Bleeding, spotting, yellow/burnt color, chucks, large sections completely missed. I have lost so much hair on my head it isn't funny. Especially the back. The entire back of my head is so thin and flat I am going to need to cut 4-5 inches off of my hair at this point it is so bad. I was left to find a new hairstylist and Chris Ono was highly recommended to me by a friend. I have naturally dark brown hair but have had highlights in my hair for a very long time. I literally cannot believe how difficult is has come to find someone who can do regular highlights. I don't need anything complex or funky. Just normal highlights! I explained this to Chris and she agreed with me. I showed her a picture of my hair from before so she could understand just how white and light I like it. I specifically asked for a lot of highlights period. Especially around my face. She opted for a very low developer number for my very dark hair. That should have been the first red flag. Then when she was putting the foils in, she was leaving huge chucks of my dark hair in between foils! I've never seen such a thing. But I let her continue, while knowing better. So then they put me under the hair dryer. FOREVER. It has to of been an hour. And for anyone who gets highlights you know it is not good to apply heat to the process, especially for long periods of time. And the reason being is because she didn't use the correct developer. I asked two people before finally heading to the shampoo bowl if the highlights were white. Both Chris and another girl said yes. Well folks, I think they were just trying to get me out of there because when you see my photos, they are yellow not white! Who knows how much hair I lost sitting under the dryer for an hour roasting my hair off on top of the yellow. The gal Katrina that blow dried my hair went and told Chris that I wasn't happy with my highlights that the top of my head was way too dark. She came over and asked for me to come back and she would put more in next week. She blamed the darkness on where I part my hair. Lol. Well she never asked me where I part my hair for one and two, it wouldn't matter for how much of my hair she left untouched. I honestly can't go back here. I certainly would not recommend anyone that has dark hair looking to go lighter. Maybe she is better with brunettes. I don't know. For almost $400 today and hacking my hair to death, certainly was extremely disappointing. All the major mistakes were made here. Now I have to pay for someone else to fix all the damage she has done to my hair. Very sad! read more
