May is wonderful! I'm glad I finally decided to come here to get my hair cut. I had this place bookmarked for a long time before finally coming here. I think the reason I didn't come was because I was skeptical that they could cut hair for such an affordable price and have it look good. But May really delivers! She is such a pro at cutting hair from telling you what will work best for your hair type to what she thinks will look good on you to what's currently in style. I have long fine, wavy hair with layers and get dry cuts. She is very friendly and I really enjoy our conversations too! She does an amazing job at cutting hair for both men and women. I always call ahead to make an appointment and usually I can make an appointment within the time frame that I want. It's so hard for me to find a stylist I really like but May is the real deal! I usually tip her 40% because the price of the hair cut is just so affordable plus she does such a wonderful job. She gives me good advice based on my hair goals and hair type. I had trouble describing how I wanted my hair cut so I asked her if I could send her a video tutorial on how to cut my hair and she let me text her the video for her to watch. Brought both of my daughters (6 & 8 years old) here today for a haircut. It came out awesome! I didn't know that my older daughter's hair could look so good! It was damaged from a summer of swimming and very tangled, but by the time I walked out they had cut it so it looked very full, thick, and somehow longer. The long, layered style looks even prettier than the picture we showed. My younger daughter wanted a bob for her wavy hair which came out adorable. I didn't get the stylist's name, but I wish I had because she did an amazing job and was super patient with my wiggly girls. She did an excellent job, I'm impressed! My kids described what they wanted, and she got it perfect. They're the best haircuts my kids have gotten anywhere, and the price was so reasonable! Its cheaper than the kids salons, that had spotty reviews, elsewhere. The stylist was so sweet and friendly as well. Great customer service. I typically go to San Francisco to get my hair cut but with the pandemic I needed to find someone local. Finally came across reviews for May and I'm SO happy I paid her a visit! I've been to several hair stylists in the LA area but none of them knew how to properly layer my hair. May is extremely knowledgeable about how to layer straight, fine hair without it looking choppy and cutting the bangs to match! A bonus is that the price for a cut is extremely reasonable. Hidden gem in South Pasadena! This hair salon is in the second floor of a small plaza on Fair Oaks (same plaza as El Pollo Loco). Parking is a bit tight and hard to get into due to the Fair Oaks traffic so I would park on a side street or in the lot behind the plaza. May cut my hair, and she was very friendly and spent a solid amount of time cutting. I loved the results - she layered the ends of the hair so it looks like it has more body and curl than usual. I would ask for her by name. The pricing is slightly above Supercuts and WAY below the nearby, fancier hair salons. I've been searching for a good place that's also affordable and this one hit the spot. read more

My usual hair joint was closed today, but since I am trying to get a lot done this Sunday, decided to give this place a try. I was a walk-in, but was helped right away. Jennifer did my cut and styling, and while she is harder to understand due to her accent, she was very friendly and gave me just what I was looking for. While it may be a little hard to understand her, she has no trouble understanding what you are asking for. I left very happy with the results and will certainly return and ask for her. Jennifer did a fine job of cutting my hair since she saw what I had and did a shorter version, but she has a heavy chinese accent (as did nina the owner I believe) which made communicating in detail what I wanted VERY DIFFICULT. If you speak Chinese then I guess this place is fine, but I could not connect with the stylist which is key in having one's hair get cut. read more

I used to drive for an hour to the Beverly Hills area in order to get my hair cut, because that's where my stylist had moved to. Parking was very hard to find, plus I paid almost $200 (with tip) for a cut, color, and highlights. I must say that the guy did a fantastic job, which is why I went to him for sooo many years. However, a year ago I decided to become debt-free and in order to do that I started to cut out many things...one of them being my stylist. I looked online and found Impression Hair Studio in South Pasadena and decided to give it a try. This place is 5 minutes from where I live and they're located in a mini-mall, so parking is super easy! I liked those two factors before I even went into the place. Nina is the person who always cuts my hair for me, and I've been happy with her from day one...she listens to what you want. I did bring pictures the first time, because it's much easier for a stylist to do what you want if they have a visual. Ever since that first time, Nina has been doing a great job cutting my hair. I now save a ton of money by coloring my own hair at home and letting Nina cut it about once every 6 weeks. I couldn't be happier and you can't beat the prices at Impression Hair Studio!
