Echter's is a large-scale nursery, garden center, and patio store, unfortunately somewhat far away from me as it is way up in Arvada from my central Denver location. I do stop by from time-to-time, though. It dates back to 1959, so hitting 67 years now in 2026. They offer a comprehensive collection of trees and shrubs; fruit trees and shrubs; rose bushes; perennial flowers and grasses; annual flowers; container gardens/hanging baskets; vegetables; herbs; indoor plants and tropicals; seeds and bulbs; fertilizers; mulches; pots; planters; weed, pest, and animal control; gardening products and tools; garden decor; bird feeding; home decor and gifts; and holiday decorations. Services include delivery, planting, and a team of plant doctors expert in identification, disease, and pests. The Web site is, unfortunately, very dated and only formatted for a large-screen device. It does not contain a full stock inventory, but only general information. This facility is large, well-stocked and well-organized. There's a very nice parking lot with lots of room. The staff is helpful. I would say, after some comparative shopping, that the prices are generally very high. read more

My daughter wanted to get houseplants and I went with her to check out this nursery. It's a heckuva drive from southeast Aurora, but my daughter felt their prices were more reasonable than Tagawas. I did find some great plants and soil and fertilizer. The man at checkout was very kind as were the employees we saw throughout the nursery. I'd love to come back in early summer to check out their vegetables. One note: I did notice a large amount of fungus gnats everywhere. Eww. read more

Echter's is a nursery in the heart of Wheat Ridge right by a small, intimate park. To start off, the parking lot here is impressive both in size and how well it's maintained. It's always a nice start to visiting here every time. As you walk in, the first thing that may come to mind is that they really have a large selection of items here including everything needed for gardening, some backyard furniture, plants, etc. As you walk into the eastern part of the building is where you'll see the nursery. There are SO many different kinds of plants. I find it hard to believe that you won't find what you're looking for here. The only downfall I would point out here is that, like many others have mentioned, the prices are definitely on the higher side. The quality of the plants and other items sold here do reflect that price though and are good. read more

I just want to share that I am really impressed with Echter's customer service. I bought two trees along with the warranty, with the help of Justin (really knowledgeable) and had them planted. Accidentally my sprinkler line was severed along with the electrical cables. No worries they sent someone out the next day who ran into some problems and so they sent another crew out. All the employees have been top notch!!! The other really cool thing is they answer their phones and are sympathetic. So, even though they are a trek for me I'll be going back. I highly them. Love this place!! The customer service was incredible. Everyone was so kind, willing to help, and very knowledgeable. The plants looked very healthy, and there were a variety of options. The prices did seem a bit high, but I know very little about plants besides buying them from Home Depot or King Soopers. Now knowing this place exists, I look forward to supporting their business even if that does mean a bit of a higher price tag than I'm used to. Go check them out!! read more

I absolutely love going to Echters and finding all kinds of new plants. Today I went and bought a large amount of perennials with plans to plant them this weekend. Within two hours, I learned that our plans for the weekend had changed and I ended up having to return them - the staff couldn't have been nicer. They were so helpful, totally understanding, and followed up with me with a call to let me know the return had been completed, and offered to mail me my receipts. Been meaning to go to Echter's for years and finally live close enough to justify visiting regularly. Excellent plant selection (albiet expensive) and wide variety of pots, which is why I usually go. You can usually find everything you need in one stop, especially if you don't want to shop around for better prices. There's a bunch of amenities I haven't check out yet but seems worthwhile if you're an avid gardener or plant parent! read more

I liked visiting Echter's bright sky-lit room during the dreary, cold, dark winter months because the cheery garden center chases away my doldrums and melancholy. But the last time I visited, I lingered for a long time trying to study and select the perfect wind chimes while enjoying the ambiance of daylight. I felt uneasy, confused, and dismayed, however, when a lady came out of the back room and started to interrogate me. At first, she smiled and asked me if I needed help. I politely answered that I was just browsing and complimented how the greenhouse atmosphere was nice and "uplifting." But she must have misinterpreted my words and, instead, she thought I was shoplifting! So she barraged me with more questions, like where I came from and what exactly brought me to their store, what item I was searching for, etc. After I got the feeling that I was an unwanted customer, I meandered into an adjacent aisle and I noticed that she popped back into her office in the back with her hidden cameras. Since only a few customers were shopping that day, I felt like everyone was focusing the spotlight on me! I vowed to never return! read more

They had excellent division of the plant genus' throughout the store with philodendrons and monstera together and labeled. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The prices were about the same as a big box store would be and the health of the plants were unbeatable with any other nursery I've visited. I highly recommend you visit Echter's Garden and nursery if you want colored and quality plants. They also have floral selections around April and that is when the best selections for flowers would be! read more

UPDATE regarding the Echter's petunias which I planted in June: On November 13, these bad boys are still going strong on my 22nd floor balcony (in Denver). This past summer, they thrived in 100 degree temps behind a glass panel, and they even survived a couple of times when I forgot to water them. The recent bout of cold weather and snow didn't set them back at all. The variety is "Sweetunia Lavender Shimmer." Echter's people, if you are listening, I hope you can sell this variety next year. read more

Every place I shop I feel I'm being scalped on the prices and Echter's is no different. Call me cheap but I've worked in a few green houses as a youth and when I see certain plants that came from starters I become outraged by the price. I will never shop at Echters again. Have always wanted to go here but having owned an Ace Harware with a garden center for many years, I couldn't justify it. Now that our Ace store is closed we decided to check it out. While I'm sure it is not the cheapest place to buy plants, the selection and quality is amazing! Many associates were visible re-stocking and caring for the plants. They all seemed knowledgeable too. NEVER purchase Garden Decor or Outdoor Furniture from this place. We purchased a bird bath last summer, and this spring found that it had completely decomposed. We brought it in to show customer service and were told "our warranty is only 2 weeks". No apology, nothing. They couldn't care less. There was nothing to suggest that you couldn't leave a bird bath out in the winter. We've never had this happen anywhere else. This place is HUUUGE! Even from the outside it looked a lot smaller than what I was about to experience. Made my goblin cardio in just one visit! It's like a minimall of plants, with fields of trees and shrubs for a solid block. And pallets-high stacks of fertilizer, prepping for some serious planting about to happen for Summer! Not to mention various indoor areas selling decor, from lawn gnomes to fountain installation. The rooms go on forever, and so much to take in. Wow wow wow is all I can say. This place is an experience, not a shop or simple nursery. The coolest part was all the Nepenthes hanging around to catch insects. Every employee I spoke with was very helpful and friendly. They had every type of flower, tree, hanging plant, etc along with TONS of variety in hanging planters/decorations, plant stands, gardening accessories, patio furniture, natural skin care products, beautiful fountains, colorful wind chimes, figurines, etc. They have a million pots/planters in as many sizes to choose from. I mean you really just have to come see for yourself. If my boyfriend and dog weren't waiting in the car, I would have spent another 2 hours here.. What a wonderful nursery! My husband and I purchased a rose shrub 2 years ago. We purchased the warranty and this summer it appeared it didn't make it. I called Echter's and asked them if they had a history of when I purchased the shrub. It seems the warranty had expired the week prior. However, Shanda let me know I could come in and do a warranty exchange. I was so happy. We'll be customers here forever. read more

I've been back to echters several times since the first review I wrote. They have a nice selection of plants, but honestly I go because it's a nice place for hard to find supplies. If you're looking for big bags of fancy dirt or a really nice selection of pots I'd recommend echters. read more

Echter's has a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants. Their trees and shrubs are healthy and the options in this category are much better than the big hardware stores. The people here have been very helpful and pleasant when I have asked questions. One of the cashiers said that this business has been in the same family for 60+ years. First time here and what a place. Massive with a great selection. Plants all looked healthy, not what you'd see at a home improvement store. I visited on May 22 and the place was packed. I needed help finding a plant and found assistance quickly. The guy was friendly and helped me find what I was looking for. Checkout was a little long, but most people had carts full of plants and dirt. Some people seem to complain about pricing. Yes, the nursery is more expensive. You can't however compare what is sold here for $6 and what is sold at Home Depot for $3. Its not a fair comparison in quality of plants. Prices I saw here were very much on par with other independent nurseries I've shopped at. Every team member I encountered was friendly and helpful. read more

My strawberries from here didn't do well, but I blame the squirrels and Colorado climate (they were healthy plants when I bought them) - peppers and herbs and tomatoes have done well. You know when you just know you have found your favorite garden center because of the people the plants the pottery and the vibe? That's Echter's for me. I am a Denver native so I have been nurturing plants, both inside and out, for well over 60 years, and I have been to lots of garden centers/nurseries all over this state, but the selection at Echter's is superb, and I know that whatever I choose it will last and be beautiful...that is if I do my part. The best experience I had at Echter's was when I went with my daughters and my grandkids to pick out plants for one of their birthdays. We were there literally all afternoon picking things out, oohing and ahhing over everything, and the staff helped all my grandkids pick out pots and plants and terrariums for their rooms. It's was not cheap, but those plants are still alive. The thing is, I don't live anywhere close to Echter's, but it's worth the drive for me. read more
