So storytime: I moved into the area six months ago and needed to find someone who could take care of my hair, like STAT. I took too long to get it worked on. Again. Last year, I had finally taken the plunge to dye my hair all sorts of blue. Best decision in my entire life-- I've wanted blue hair since I was 12 years old. Now I'm 24. Hey, sometimes you just gotta realize you're not going to live forever, you know? So I definitely needed to find an amazing stylist to care for my locks quick, in my new town, and I really don't like homejobs; I leave important things (like my hair!) to the professionals who have studied and researched their art. Let me say, what Jesse does is art!!! In the most beautiful of ways-- it stays with you, follows you in public, helps bring you joy, and promotes confidence in yourself. 6.5 hours on the seat w/ cut and style. Sometimes you do crazy things for what/who you love, and wow, Jesse stuck with me through the entire process. I don't think she had a moment of rest... well, besides the five minutes she took for a lunch break (when my dye had to sit), but seriously, I almost wouldn't even count that as a break. 99.7% of the time she was blending, washing, scrubbing, grooming, brushing, sectioning, painting on enzymes and dyes and-- yikes! (She even offered me food, but I had dinner planned at home with the s.o.) Like in a previous review, I felt she really LOVED her job; it's sad what a difference that makes in doing something for a living, and doing it because it's what you enjoy doing. Jesse really enjoyed what she was doing; I picked up on her excitement the moment I sat down in her seat, and it tickled me pink. She was also a hoot to talk to! We talked regarding things of "getting to know you", to connecting over personal discussions, and eventually in-depth future goals and aspirations we had. It wasn't just a high fashion cut & style 'do; it was an experience I will remember for a long time to come. Thank you, Jesse. About 9 hours of my day (w/ driving), sitting on one spot on my ass, my wallet is sad, but gosh-diddily-darn I'd do it all again! In a heartbeat! You produced amazing results. Anyone doin' research on a good stylist for neon, high-fashion color jobs (color corrections or new peeps) should 105% contact you. Besides being an awesome stylist-- the products you use makes my core earth-conscious, usually-frustrated attitude very pleased. And online booking! Soooo happy to have found Jesse. I recently moved to Portland and needed to find someone I felt good about to fix my hair. After weeks of shopping around for a new stylist I booked an appointment with Jesse. I was soooo embarrassed about my hair cut and somehow Jesse was able to work her magic and fix it! On top of that, I had my hair SEVERELY damaged October 2015 by another stylist and have been in hair rehab ever since and have been extremely skeptical about who I go to for color. Jesse is so knowledgeable and has done her research! It will definitely be a process to get my hair back to good health but I'm so happy I have found a stylist I can trust and who does a great job! read more

I found Jesse after my old stylist did a terrible job lightening my hair - I brought in a dimensional blonde with smoky roots, and he gave me two inches of root with a sudden change to what can only be called accidental orange, and then white-blond highlights for the last several inches. It looked so bad I was actually embarrassed to show my hair. Fortunately, Jesse was able to get me in for a consult and color correction before my trip! My hair already looks so much better - she did a treatment and toned all my hair so it's healthier, *and* it looks like a nice human hair color (currently a light brown). We're planning to add highlights to achieve blonde, but even as is it makes a world of difference - thank you, Jesse! read more

Maybe next time I'll do that neon hair! Jesse helped me transition from my years of long boring hair into a new short cut with built-in air-conditioning. She seems to really love her job and to take the time and do it right. Which is rare in this world. She is opinionated, outspoken, and proud, all this makes for a great conversationalist, which is what you need if you are going to be sitting in a chair for an hour+ with a person cutting your hair. That definitely takes the pressure off! Truthfully, just go in and see Jesse, it's a great time for a haircut. read more

One note: before picture she posted of my hair was after she washed it and very quickly and badly blew dryed it. Which made it fizz. Then she remembered to take the picture. Totally inaccurate picture!! Embarrassing really...i would never leave home with my hair looking like she posted. Also i did not give permission for her to use my photo or post it. I have put in a report in yelp about this. I posted a real before picture. I was in for a cut, root touchup and balayage. It seriously took 8 hours which was something i was not aware or have ever encountered in my 51 years of life. I went in with beautiful hair. There was no correction or anything. It was like she added more and more on to make money. The cost was outrageous! $379. I have never in my life paid that much and i have gone to salons in NYC and LA. I booked 2 appointments to cover the time since the menu didnt have what i wanted exactly. When i arrived she said it would take longer. I wrongly assumed 3 hours which is a reasonable assessment. While there i even heard the other stylist tell her client 2.5 for exactly what i had asked for. Crazy to extend the time on a client just to suck money out of them. BTW my whole day was ruined and i was ill all night from very little food and water for 8 hours. I will never return. Ask about time and cost before you go to her...i felt like a prisoner. She did get me food at 730pm (my appointment was at 130) because i asked and was about to pass out - thank goodness. Although i had to stop on my way home and puke it up. I did get offered drinks when i arrived but not again until 730. What i heard from the other stylist was that she could cut and balayage for 2.5 hours so i disagree with her comment. The other things were added by Jesse after me arriving. The costs are too much and the time was outragious no one should be in a salon that long unless they work there. read more

Jesse is seriously AMAZING! For almost 15 years my best friend has been doing my hair but moving 3,000+ miles away makes that a bit hard. I have a terrible time with anxiety when it comes to my hair and making decisions; mainly because any time I strayed from my best friend I had horrible experiences. Jesse took the time to listen and made me feel like I was more than just a client even with my back forth trying to make a decision, she was so incredibly patient. She also really takes them time to educate you on loving your locks the right way without making you feel like you have to spend hundreds of dollars before you leave. For starters, I'm picky about my hair and I recently moved to Portland with the feeling of "oh gosh who is going to cut my hair now?" I held off for a while seeing if someone would give me a referral to a great place and nothing of the sort happened so I took to yelp to find someone on my own. I checked out some of the other salons that were bigger, more brand names and on beaten trails. Nothing seemed too appealing and my last hair stylist set the bar with taking his time and actually caring about if I was happy at the end of a session. Needless to say, I had a fantastic experience with Jesse. I'm someone that likes getting all the tips and tricks on products and what causes what reaction with my hair. She really took the time to explain different techniques that help damaged hair (I just moved from California and the hard water there makes your hair super dry) and what would help the most to fix the 5 years of hard-water damage. And even when it came to styling she was able to tell me techniques to help with getting certain effect with my hair and did an awesome job layering it (I love layers - all the layers, just can't have enough layers). Pretty much I had a great experience, and am excited that I found someone on my first try that knew what she was doing, had a passion for it, and is happy to shoot me a reminder me when I need to come back in for a cut (a big plus because I will forget and try to do the last minute "please save me from my split ends!"). read more

Jesse is passionate about what she does, is quite knowledgeable on the subject of healthy hair, and is more than happy to share that with you. I wasn't surprised to learn that she has a medical background. I never had a stylist that was so detail oriented and put so much time and effort into styling my hair. I'm not usually a huge fan of the blowout style but I loved my hair after after she was done with it. I went to Jesse for the first time after she was recommended by a friend. I got a cut and partial weave color. My hair is difficult. It doesn't lighten easily and I have a ton of it. Jesse had no problem bringing my hair up to the color I wanted and didn't leave me with damaged or brassy hair, even though I had some boxed color on my hair from before. I think my hair was even healthier after the color, which is impressive. She takes her work seriously and is passionate about getting it right. She is a Jesse of all trades when it comes to beauty, as she does custom make up blends and other treatments as well. She is also super fun to chat with and easy to talk to. The salon is very cute and has a great vibe. She is priced on the higher end, but pretty typical of a boutique salon in the city. The only con was that it took a very long time for my cut and color, but to be fair, I have a lot of hair to foil and it usually takes a long time, this just took longer than usual. I would rather have a good color than have someone rush through however. Also, I would have liked a more blended cut, but if you tell her that I am sure she will accommodate, I was just out of time. Her scheduling app is easy to use and sends reminders. She also has a square for cards. Parking it limited; it is best to park in the neighborhood behind the shop. Food trucks next door too if you are hungry before you appointment :) read more

I love that it doesn't look like I'm wearing any powder, but in my 50's, I found I needed something to cover little veins and dark discolorations. That foundation is my skin's best friend! read more
