I'm actually quite a fan! Hotel restaurants can be pretty hit and miss, so I was glad that this one stood out.
I met my cousins here for dinner one night, as they were staying in the hotel. The atmosphere is quite warm and the decor was nice. We were seated at a booth near the entrance and it was quite comfortable.
No complaints on the service. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.
It had been a long day and we decided we needed a shot before dinner - but I was really surprised when they tasted like flavoured water. Did they forget the booze?
Anyways... on to the food.
We had the spinach and artichoke dip to start. This was like nothing I've ever seen. Everywhere else I've been, this dish has been creamy and cheesy and the spinach was more of an afterthough. But here - Its appearance was very close to a pesto (not creamy at all), and the taste was VERY spinach-y. It actually was like dipping into cooked spinach. Not my favourite thing... but others enjoyed it quite a bit. Also, they put this strange ring of tomato paste on top - just tomato paste. No seasoning. That was weird.
But... the shining star was the 8 oz Whisky Sirloin, with a Jack Daniels au jus. 2 of us ordered this dish - both medium rare. They were a little more on the rare side, but honestly it was delicious. And that Jack Daniels au jus was a great finisher for it. With this, you choose 2 sides. I went with the pub chips and ceasar salad. Score - they gave me the chef vegetables AS WELL! yay free veggies!
The best side dish was the pub chips. They were SO good. Thin sliced potatoes that are fried. They were so crispy and seasoned really well!
Our waitress had overheard my cousin say that we were there for my birthday dinner and she brought us a beautiful slice of cheesecake at the end of the night. What a nice touch! I thought I was too full for it... but I was proven wrong very quickly. read more
