Nasty hotel with small insects crawling around in the bed sheets. They weren't legitimate "bed bugs" per se, but nasty nonetheless. Hotel staff basically insinuated I was lying, even after seeing the insects in person. Manager was never available to address my concerns and refund my charges despite 3 attempts at speaking with him. read more

Very attractive upon arrival with all the flowers. We were received with a nice welcome. Room is adequate and clean for an overnight stay. Desk attendant was very friendly even at 2am when we checked in! Room was quiet, clean, and felt safe. I liked the extra kind touches in a roadside stop hotel. There was a fresh bottle of water, pump hand soap provided, and a curtain catch to keep our room private while the ac was blowing, thoughtful perks that a bigger brand spot who charges double didn't provide. The floors, bathroom, counters, and linens are all pleasantly clean, there is a clean refrigerator and microwave in the rooms, toiletries provided, and complementary breakfast. When I checked in, the owner was polite, and took an obvious interest in why I chose the motel, inquiring about the online reviews pointing me to choose this location. I checked in after working and was given a room, non smoking. As a smoker, I smoked outside. Before check in, I was charged a $50 deposit which was due upon check out. During check out, the owner raised his voice and stated he knew I smoked in the room (without going upstairs) and there was a heavy cloud of smoke. I made it an effort of smoking outside at my car. If you are a smoker, or use any tobacco flavored products, DO NOT PATRONIZE this business! On a recent trip south, we booked a room to stay at the Econo Lodge in Walterboro, SC. We decided to give one of the more budget-conscious Choice Hotel options a try. It turned out to be an excellent decision. We were pretty worn out after nearly nine hours on the road. The initial check-in experience was quick and efficient. The room itself was large and exceptionally clean. Our bathroom was oversized, so comparing it for a general review wouldn't help most guests. However, the bathroom was modernized and clean. Each amenity on the list was in the room: fridge, microwave, etc. Again, everything was clean and neat. The only room improvement to note would be the provided seating. It wasn't the most comfortable chair I've sat in. In a room with a king bed, it might be helpful to add more comfortable seating for two, possibly a love seat sofa. The first thing we noticed when pulling into this Econo Lodge parking lot was the spectacular array of flowers, planters, and hanging baskets. Clearly, the owners take extra care to enhance and maintain the visual appearance of their business. Very pretty! There was no advertising that this location offered an extensive hot breakfast, but the small eating area and items provided were sufficient and, like the room, clean. Of note, this is not a fancy, "high-priced" overnight accommodation. If you're looking for a lot of overpriced bells and whistles, you might be disappointed. However, if you want a budget-friendly, exceptionally clean place to lay your head for a night or two, you will not be disappointed at the Econo Lodge in Walterboro, SC. I stayed at the Walterboro, SC EconoLodge twice and each time it was a very shady experience. The owners are, in my opinion, very rude. If there is a problem in the room, i.e. the shower doesn't turn on/off and has mold, the TV isn't working, the fridge is leaking on to the floor( all of which happened), the owners became very obnoxious. They switch to their native language and talk like you aren't there! I didn't feel safe either time I stayed here. After dark, the parking lot fills up with people drinking, smoking, and being loud. I suspect that these are the transient long term residents that live at the motel. I was afraid to leave my room. The last time I stayed, I was awakened by flashing police lights from someone trying to break into vehicles in the parking lot. The only positives would be it's location close to I-95 and the flowers. I would never/could never recommend this place to anyone in good conscience. BEWARE! read more

Thieves! ZERO stars! - Had reservation. Got confirmation email. Arrived just after midnight w two tired toddlers and two weary parents. We're told we did NOT have reservation with them and were turned away! My husband explained he had spoken with a woman at that location and received the email, but to no avail and they were not helpful and implied it was my husband's mistake. (After finding last min alternate lodging, and two more days on the road) returned home to find they CHARGED OUR CARD for the room/reservation they said we didn't have and the room we never saw!!! Stayed here in late April for a night in the way down to Florida. The place is clean, quiet, the beds are comfortable. Tony and I stopped at Econo Lodge in Waltersboro, SC off Exit 53 on I-95 South. The hotel was recommended by our Rewards Membership in Choice Hotels. Great deal only $58 with taxes on this Thursday evening with 400 Bonus Points on top of points earned. The hotel is a Platinum Reward Winner. 2 Stories, Outside Corridores, we were assigned room #114. The owner checked me in, No breakfast served here. The office was clean and he was very pleasant. Room was very nice. The King Size bed Comfy, no carpet there is Faux hardwood easy to clean, more comfortable no dirty carpets under your feet, very much appreciated. The room tidy, homey, there was a protective cover for remote, plenty of lamps for adequate lighting and mirrors to help add light reflection in room..everything worked as it should,microwave, TV. Refrigerator, Remote, Lights...nice! Couch with coffee table very nice, leather with a protective throw! Outside very nice, fresh paint, hanging plants, even a plant in our room! For the price, this place is decent. The room is clean along with the bathroom. The only thing I noticed was that the walls are paper thin. We had just arrived to the hotel and I got a call from the front desk that the guests under us complained about noise. We needed a place to stay close to Charleston. Chose this motel because it had good reviews and was reasonably priced, so I booked over the phone. When we arrived and checked in, I signed the paperwork, received the room key and asked for some extra towels. Upon entering the room, there was a strong odor of cleaner over musty mildew/mold smell. The window is sealed shut, so you cannot even open it to get fresh air to help reduce the odor. My wife has severe allergies to mold. I went back to office to find out if there was another room, but there was not, so I told the desk manager the room wasn't going to work for us because of the smell and my wife's allergies and I need to check with my wife, who is waiting out by our car, to see what she would like to do. We see a woman bringing towels to the room, who drops the towels on the ground, picks them back up and proceeds to put them in the room. We go back to the office to tell the manager we are not staying and give them the room key back. We are now told by the woman (who dropped the towels) that he went to Walmart and we would have to talk to him. I told her I already did and did not want the room. She said that we used the room. What!?! We were only in it long enough to walk in and smell it and walk back out. When confronted about dropping the towels on the outside ground, she denied doing so, but we both saw her. She said the manager would call me on my cell, but I never got a call or voice mail. We left and stayed elsewhere. When I checked my credit card statement, The Econo lodge charged me for a nights stay. I filed a dispute with my bank, but was denied, and I am guessing because I signed the paperwork at the desk, I was bound to pay, lesson learned. DO NOT sign anything until you have them take you to the room to see (and smell) it first to avoid getting robbed of $72 for a room you didn't even stay in. Also, there is a creepy guy in a trailer on the other side of the parking lot that sits outside and stares at you and comes over the ice machine to help himself. The room seems clean and nice, so if you don't mind breathing in the aroma of strong cleaner with a musty mildew mold smell hiding in there as well, the Econo Lodge in Waltersboro might be your home away from home. Bursts of unique fragrance came in the face when we walked into the front desk.The standard room has 2 double beds and can be shared with 4 people maximum. Private bathroom, microwave, refrigerator, televisions, hair dryer, and Wi-Fi are all available. The fitment style is generous and decent. Everything was sanitized, neat, clean, and comfortable. We can feel the heart-warming surrounding this place. We enjoyed it! One thing is that the bleach might smell a little bit too much for sensitive people. Personally, the bleach is acceptable. It is still undeniable that it is a fabulous choice to stop by and have some good rest while a long drive. So I checked into this sleepy motel at around 2:30 am. The lobby is rinky dink and they apparently serve some sort of breakfast in there. That's pretty funny considering the space is about 13x14. But it must be true as I was witness to a few pastry-like items bathing inside a glass dome under the lobby's incandescent lighting. The boy that checked me in was obviously sleeping before I rang the buzzer as instructed by the Comic Sans notice taped to the door. His belt was dangling loose and the den from which he emerged was pitch black. Well, at least I *think* he was sleeping! Anyway, I don't like to pay more than $80.00 if I'm checking in late on the road. This hotel's rate was a shocking $43.00! It was late and I was feeding off "attwifi" at a nearby McDonald's, "Sure, whatever!" I thought as I clicked away and finalized my reservation. The rooms are a bit dated, but not vulgar. Everything is super clean and well kept. The television gets a larger variety of channels than most Westins, Hyatts or Marriotts I've previously stayed in! Oh, and the shower has exceptional pressure. The air conditioner has no fan function and will not constantly run. This is a problem because there's a lot of noise from the road, from the people walking by and from all the housekeepers who will, inevitably, slam doors promptly at 7:57 am! It's not bad considering the super low price and that old nostalgic/Soprano's convenience of being able to back your car's trunk almost right into your room! read more

Great option if ur on the road and need to sleep. Driving from Miami to Virginia area, stopped here for the night based on the high yelp ratings. Off of exit 53, on 95. The adjacent hotels had very low ratings so staying here was a no brainer. The lady working the night shift was very friendly and they had one room left! It's modest, clean, inexpensive and best of all Pet Friendly which was perfect since we were driving w ours. Bathroom was clean, mini fridge and microwave in room as well as a desk. Hotel was well lit and did not feel scary/shady like many hotels/motels feel off the highway. I would stay here again. P.s- free continental breakfast (juice, coffee, tea, cereals, instant grits, toast jelly etc) and free wifi. read more

I booked via Priceline. Checking in was a little exciting, because the hotel was "no vacancy" and an elderly gentleman at the front desk was giving the owner some guff about it. His traveling companion was in a car out front poring over an honest-to-god paper map. When he finally gave up being cantankerous it was my turn to check in. Although the owner was flustered from that experience, she checked me in professionally and with a smile. I learned that sites such as travelocity and kayak had been overbooking this hotel, and they hadn't found a way to stop it yet, so people had been showing up pretty irate that evening. Hopefully that issue will be sorted out, but if you're traveling here 1/2016 maybe call ahead to make sure you've actually got a room. My room was on the second level. I did not see an elevator nor was one mentioned, so if you have trouble with stairs consider calling the hotel ahead to let them know. I had quite a few heavy bags and an elevator would have been nice. The room was clean and comfortable. Wifi was a little slow, but with the hotel at capacity this was not surprising. I WAS surprised to find a complementary bag of chips and a bottle of water on the counter. How nice! I do have to mention that the grab bar in the shower was broken and scared the crap out of me when it fell into the tub (made a super loud noise). This is not a new hotel so watch out for stuff like that :P I didn't get up early enough for breakfast, but in addition to the continental offered by the hotel they also have a free breakfast program with the nearby Waffle House. Probably pretty decent. Overall it's a great stop on the way to somewhere else. I know that lots of travelers are really picky about small stuff (self included), so here are some things that I experienced that others may want to consider: - The walls here are thin. I could clearly hear my neighbor getting a shower in the morning, and a minor domestic dispute from another couple in a nearby room (or was it the tv? hard to tell). If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs. - There were many stray cats around the property. I saw at least one every time I went outside. If you are allergic to cats or don't want them near your car, take note. - Personal preference, I would have liked a thicker blanket on the bed or in the room for use. January in the south is warmer than most other places, but the climate control did take a while to heat the room as the temperature dropped in the evening. I ended up taking the thin blankets from the second bed and using both until the room warmed up. read more

If I could give negative stars, this would be my honest rating. First off, I've been here 2 weeks and get NO room service, No accommodations for dogs, They claim to be a dog friendly hotel but will claim that your dog pooped anywhere around the motel which they don't feel like cleaning up themselves. I was rudely addressed by several people and the workers for taking my dog outside to pee or poop every morning. Mind you my dog is potty trained. Every morning someone staying at this motel will go out of their own way to know what you're doing or watch you get in your car and pull back in whenever you leave. Creepy & unprofessional. Privacy??? None!! They will make you feel like you're living in a halfway house and have to ask for permission to even use the restroom. Dont do it!! Save your money or find someowhere better cheaper. P.s. doesn't help that the staff speaks almost no English and will not listen to your requests. read more

I don't usually gravitate towards Econo Lodges but I was hard pressed moving halfway across the country with kitty in tow. There was something really homey about this hotel. They had lovingly cared for plants spread all throughout which put a real personal touch on the property. It seemed loved. For breakfast, it wasn't the greatest spread, but they offered a voucher for a simple hot meal at the nearby Waffle House (it was also good for a discount off the other plates). I don't usually eat at Waffle House, but it was nice to have a hot meal, and I don't think there were many options in town anyways. The room was spacious and clean. They provided their guest with a free breakfast. Walking distance to other place where you can eat. The Hotel is located right off the highway. This is a pet friendly hotel. I always travel with my own shampoo. Leaving the hotel, I forgot to take it (it was half a bottle). The receptionist called me and she asked me what address to send it back. Such things today no longer happen. Thank you very much for the wonderful service. Great place to stay as you are traveling through. Price is very affordable. Room was clean (other than the really really long black and purple hair in the shower) and looks like it had been recently remodeled with new flooring and paint. Air conditioning was cold and relatively quiet. As stated in another review, the parking lot is well lit. There are flower baskets all over the parking lot and sidewalks, giving it a nice feel. There is a free small breakfast available on site or they will give you a voucher for the Waffle House just down the street. You get a really basic breakfast there and have to pay for drinks, but we added a couple of items and the 3 of us got out of there for about $12. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! Even if this hotel is $1 a night, don't book it! The owner of this motel is a total psycho, that giving him business will only support his utterly disgusting behavior. I'm a travel nurse who have been working on covid units for the past 6 months and was on my way north. I booked to rest here for the night after a full day of driving when I received a call from my colleague that a bunch of my coworkers have tested positive for covid. Interestingly, I was already experiencing symptoms, I was coughing and having mild sore throat. I informed the owner I don't wanna risk spreading the infection in his motel as I am becoming more and more symptomatic, requesting a refund. He refused stating that he has a room for me regardless of the situation. As a healthcare worker and seeing firsthand the havoc of covid, it was my ethical responsibility to follow CDC guidelines and to quarantine, instead of exposing people around me. That's when the owner completely lost it and started screaming at me, threatening to call the cops for what? for upholding infection control? Bizarre, right? He started calling me names saying I'm a terrible person, etc. I recorded a bit of his psychotic outburst but as soon as he noticed I was recording he immediately quiet down knowing full well his behavior was out of line. Obviously I didn't fell safe after that encounter. When I arrived there, he refused to give me a room like he said he was gonna do, a room I paid for, and refused to refund. read more

This low budget hotel was anything but low budget. The hotel staff was friendly upon a late night check in to start. We got a downstairs room with 2 double beds. Room was very clean, beds were comfortable and big winner....BUG FREE(bugs of any sort)!!!! The room had nice decor and had updated floors. I know other reviewers said the walls were paper thin but I didn't hear anyone to be honest. Not at night or morning and I am a light sleeper.
