This little lovely drugstore also happens to house The Fountain with a real soda counter like the good ole days! I absolutely loved the counter service and all its offerings from sandwiches to ice cream sundaes and root beer floats. I was in heaven!!! And the PORTIONS!!! My goodness. The '6 inch' sandwich is definitely enough for 2. I ordered the Mafia and my friends ordered the Rancher. Massive and most delicious sandwiches!!! I couldn't even eat it all but enjoyed the other 1/2 later. Ordered a root beer float and again it was massive. And so darn yummy!!!! I miss root beer floats and Economy Drug & Fountain fills that void! Shout out to the incredible employees as well. They were kind, efficient and most welcoming to us. The young man made awesome sandwiches & root beer floats! Another woman ran the counter, cleaned, made food and did it all while taking orders. She was extremely efficient!! I cannot wait to return to this magical little place in Ely, Nevada!! It feels like returning to the good ole days!

it's nice in there, though they don't have fountain soda anymore! Milkshake are great, we had strawberry flavour!

This is not your typical drugstore/pharmacy. It also includes an awesome toy store and a cute blast from the past 50's soda fountain. Their sandwiches and huckleberry ice cream are absolutely delicious! Staff are very welcoming and friendly. I will definitely be back for more!

An old school sandwich/ice cream shop. Very friendly high schoolers working, the food is good, great milkshakes. A must stop in Ely

So much more than a drugstore! Decided to take a walk in Ely near my motel and happened upon this gem! Beautiful retro soda fountain! Had a fabulous grilled chicken on toasted rye and black raspberry pecan ice cream cone. Both were delicious!

Old school soda fountain and sandwich spot we saw on an IG reel. Tried the lime Rickey with blueberry. They cater to your taste. I like more tart so they added more lime juice to mine. Also tried an iron soda which tasted like a cream soda. Got sandwiches to go. I got the number 6 to go with the Italian dressing on the side and sub turkey for the ham. The sandwich itself was filling with lots of meat but they forgot my Italian dressing on the side and put it in the sandwich. Friend got the 3 little pigs sandwich which he enjoyed. Service was good. Seemed like a lot of locals were stopping into eat. Prices are reasonable read more
Time for lunch! An old fashion fountain cafe and pharmacy. Definitely worth the stop. The service was fabulous, atmosphere wonderful and quiet enough for conversation! I loved my roast beef with provolone with chips. Plenty of meat on a freshly baked 6" hoagie for $10.99. (A little mustard or horseradish would have been awesome). Diet Coke always a plus and a large was $2.09. Very busy; obviously a local favorite! Don't forget to grab ice cream for dessert! read more

This place is so cute and the food is delish. My husband and I both had the Mafia. I'm gluten and dairy free and they were happy to make my sandwich with my bread and no cheese. I saw the young man making my sandwich don a pair of glove before proceeding. It was awesome to sit at the bar and eat like a normal person while watching the crew take such good care of everyone. They were all so friendly and helpful. read more

This place was recommended by a friend so our party of three stopped on for lunch, what a treat! Inside this funky drugstore's a 1950s soda fountain and cafe. We ordered sandwiches and drinks and were even more surprised. The sandwiches came on homemade baked bread! And the sandwiches were huge! Yum! The phrase, " try it you'll like it" is absolutely true! Try it! Plus the people working there were happy and helpful! read more

I'm a local, been coming to economy drug since I was a young child. but today I was very displeased by the service that was provided. I don't know her name but she was an older woman behind the counter working. she was rude to her coworkers and to customers, was wiping EVERYTHING down with a dirty brown rag (including rims of drinks and the blender) and continuously wiped her hands on her pants instead of washing them. There are several health violations being committed, only by her from the looks of it. The younger girl at the counter was lovely, kind, and correctly made my order in a timely manner. I have always loved this business and I would hate to see it go down due to one Employees behavior. read more

Economy Drug in Ely is great! Too bad it doesn't carry over to their Eureka location. They never answer the phone, never tell you if your prescription is ready, are super slow and every time I go in there, they always have an issue with my prescription but never call me to let me know about it. HORRIBLE SERVICE! read more

If you want coffee, go to a coffee shop. We went here with the intention of grabbing ice cream, but my partner didn't see anything he wanted so we ended up with coffee. His mocha tasted like Swiss Miss hot cocoa that went through the steamer, and my latte was essentially foamy milk with some syrup. There were 8 people just hanging out in the employee area, but I became concerned when the girl that took our order brought the mocha cup over to another employee and they started sniffing it. It was less than 7 bucks for our 2 drinks, you really do get what you pay for! read more

Pharmacy, toy store, and ice-cream/soda shop in one!! We bought a mini Jenga for the RV and everyone tried something from the restaurant portion. Ice cream cone, float, milkshake, and a hot mocha for the cold mama. They have sandwiches or wraps that sound delicious and many patrons were buying. The prices were very reasonable coming from Las Vegas. Everyone working was super kind and helpful. Will definitely go back if we are ever in the area again! read more

I went to Economy Drugs which was a short walk from the Hotel Nevada. I wanted to get some hand lotion--an amenity not in the hotel room. I finally found a small tube and purchased that. The price was about what I would have paid for a large size at Walmart but it was the only thing nearby. I stopped in the next day around lunch time to try something from their soda fountain but it was slammed and I left. That would be a reason to stop here rather than for drugstore items. read more

this is the most unprofessional pharmacist I have every came in contact with. they will make sure you don't get your meds just for a not so good review on yelp. they have no simpathy for anyone struggling or needing their meds even after surgery. I've made official complaints with the board of pharmacy. if I were you I would go to the william b Rirey pharmacy they actually do their job and are very pleasant and accommodating to he people of ely. read more

Stopped in to try the old fashion soda fountain on the way to visit southern Idaho. Got the Banana Split. Wow! What a value. Around $6.00. This thing was huge. 3 monster ice cream scoops. I'm sure it would cost around 3x's more if they were operating in Los Angeles. Can't go wrong with ice cream on a hot summer day. Highly recommend this place. read more

Horrible, Horrible! Was sick and went to the doctor in Ely. He called my prescription into Economy Drug. I went to the prescription counter and they told me 10 minutes. Went to the soda fountain to get a vanilla milkshake while my script was being filled and couldn't get waited on. After 15 minutes went back to the pharmacy counter and prescription still wasn't ready. They said another five minutes. Sat in a chair by the pharmacy and waited 10 minutes. Went back to the counter at the pharmacy and script still wasn't ready. They said it was ready but needed to be checked by the pharmacist. I waited another 15 minutes and went back to the counter. They said it need to be checked. I walked out! Ridiculous! Pharmacist does nothing but walk around talking to the locals! Cares nothing about sick people who want their medicine! Horrible place and I would never go back! read more

We had our trailer out at Cave Lake state park, taking all the trout out of the lake that we could manage. One day we decided to head into Ely and check the town out more closely than just driving through on our way to and from the lake. We were doing a 'walking tour' of Ely when we came across this business on the main drag. On the front of the store was a line that caught my attention. "Old Fashioned Soda Fountain". I think those were the words . . . I'm recalling from two week old memories now. Anyway, my wife and I decided to head in and SEE what they called an Old Fashioned Soda Fountain. The counter was lined with 'locals', who probably come in here almost everyday. Everyone knew everyone's name (except ours, of course). After looking at the menu up on the wall, we opted for two chocolate malts. It took the girl a while to get these things made, but let me tell you. IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! They were SO think we were unable to get any of it through the straws. We asked for spoons, and used them to 'eat' our malts. That's how thick they were. It was a chunk of heaven to find a chocolate malt like this. I'll bet it's been at least 30 years since I had a 'spoonable' malt. Looking at the sandwich menu, I think next time we're here we'll definitely check out the selection. Especially after reading the other reviews here on Yelp. The people were all very friendly and we enjoyed sitting and listening to the local gossip. Oh, and it IS also a drug store with a pharmacy in the rear. There was a toy store in the basement but we didn't head down there. It looked like a little bit of everything was sold in the store. read more

Super helpful staff at the counter even re-made my sandwich when I made a mistake on the order (when was the last time Starbucks did that for you?) Lovely small-town vibe - all the basics of a drugstore, with the soda fountain nice helpful ladies who make a mean sandwich (even when you ask for it wrong). Would return next time I'm 11 hours east of San Francisco. read more

This review is for the soda fountain/sandwich counter only. I came here on the advice of a co-worker and the previous reviewers on Yelp... and I wasn't led astray! The sandwiches are made to order - you fill out a checklist of what you want. The ingredient list includes various meats and cheeses as well as a fairly good selection of veggies. They've got the standard green peppers and tomatoes, but also sprouts... and I believe I also saw artichokes on the list? Their bread selection includes rye, white, wheat, hoagie roll... The sandwiches are of a generous size, and they cut them in half for you (and wrap them separately - a big plus for me). The chalkboard advertised various soda fountain-y things, like milk shakes and a lime rickey... I'll have to come back to check all that out! read more

What a cute spot! They literally have everything there. It's like a drug store/everything store. They even have a little cafe/deli type place. We had some ice cream cones and enjoyed the atmosphere. The ladies working were so friendly and interactive. They were working and socializing the whole time. With a smile! Quite a few people were enjoying sandwiches at the counter top. I overheard them raving about them. I'll have to try one next time. read more
I discovered Economy Drug on my first visit to Ely in 2011, and it has become a must-stop destination every time I'm in town (once or twice a year on average, as my wife has family here). Not for medicine or spiral notebooks or toys (all of which are available), but for the old-fashioned soda counter in the front of the store. It's clean and charming, and looks like a page ripped out of a 1950s calendar. We usually stop here for lunch, ordering a custom sandwich from the paper menu and one of their hard-to-find-elsewhere sodas. My wife usually opts for the Ironport, a drink that was popular in the early part of the 20th century. It's sort of like root beer, only spicier and sweeter. I will typically order a lime rickey, a mixture of club soda and lime juice that is reminiscent of Sprite only A MILLION TIMES BETTER. For a real treat, make yours a cherry lime rickey. You'll thank me later, trust me. As cold and refreshing as the beverages are, the sandwiches are pretty good, too. Everything is made to order and might take a few extra minutes depending on the crowd, but they are worth the wait. You can order combinations as unique as you desire - take that, Subway! Want pepperoni with your turkey? How about sprouts? Rye bread? Bacon? The sky's the limit. We usually stick with a 1/2 sub because they are so generously sized and include a small bag of Lay's chips. My go-to is turkey and bacon with avocado and pickles, but I doubt you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is friendly and sometimes includes a little good-natured sassiness. A must stop whether you're just passing through, or staying for a spell. read more

Great ice-cream, great shakes, and great Lime Ricky's. I lived and worked in Ely for a few months, back in Aug./Sept. of 2013. I visited the place regularly after checking all the local food options. It was my favorite for a quick snack. They made great, but pricey sandwiches. I was mostly interested in their shakes! Be sure to give this place a try! read more

Best Ice cream in town! Also the soda fountain is fantastic and super fun! May I recommend a marshmallow lemonade if you are feeling crazy and want an amazingly refreshing drink or a Chocolate Soda as well. Also give a tuna sandwich on white bread with nacho cheese to dip it in, you can thank me later for this one! The toy store is also extremely fun and well organized as well as there selection of drugs and the pharmacy is top notch great service! read more

I went to have lunch today with my friends today from out of town as we had heard great things about Economy Drug and though we were enjoying our time it was interrupted by what seemed to be the manager or high end in the fountain, short lad with maybe blonde hair , shouting at a costumer while making sandwiches and being very disrespectful resulting in the costumer to leave. Great food but very unprofessional atmosphere. read more

Excellent ice cream and drink selection! Great staff and amazing service! It is a very fun and original experience to visit this old time fountain drug store, you don't see this very often. Small town, embracing the past, but yet upgraded enough to have modern conveniences and tastes with their amazing frappes and very original drink varieties that are almost endless! It's extremely hard to find such originality nowadays. They really know how to cater to individual tastes as well as bring you back in time. read more

Don't even THINK about asking the pharmacist, about prices. He will come UNGLUED immediately. Unfortunately for the citizens of Ely, Nevada, this is only one of two privately-owned pharmacies. There is one in the clinic but it is run by the county government so it is even worse than the one run by this family. The other pharmacy has very arrogant pharmacists working there also - they won't even call in a scrip for you. Basically, the family has a near-MONOPOLY with this pharmacy. My wife needs a drug that costs upwards of 1000 dollars a month. I asked the pharmacist about the price and off he went! He seems to think that when a customer asks about prices, that it means we are accusing him of gouging us. The boy needs therapy. read more

Economy drug is a little gem in the heart of downtown Ely. So many people miss all that downtown has to offer because they stay on 93 instead of driving a short distance down the hill. There is a decent selection of your typical pharmacy items (OTC medicines, medical equipment, vitamins, ect) and a small section of general items. The pharmacy staff, especially pharmacists Margaret and Andy are fantastic! Downstairs is the toy shop. While not the size of a Toys R Us or the toy section at your local discount store, they carry lots of toys and video and board games at reasonable prices. You can find some real gems when they have clearance sales as well. There is a small section with quite a few Ely and Nevada centric books along with a few magazines as well. But even with all that good stuff, the best part is the old fashioned soda fountain. There is sandwiches, coffee drinks, malts and shakes, and usually at least 10 or 15 flavors of ice cream (with usually at least 1 sugar free/nsa flavor), but my favorite is having an old fashioned soda like a lime rickey made up fresh for you. read more
