I just wanted to thank Eda for the superb job she did on my Pierre Cardin 3-piece suit. She altered the suit pants, and shortened the sleeves/did alterations to the suit coat as well. The removed buttons were re-sewn on the sleeves after shortening them, and the silk sleeve liners were sewn back properly. Eda is a local Norfolk seamstress that has never steered me wrong, and has always done quality work for me. I honestly wasn't sure she was up to the task of doing the big formal stuff ($800.00+ suit) with a short turn-around time but she did not disappoint. She actually has a try on room and mirrored platform (for pin ups/visual inspection) in the back of the shop that I never knew was there. For regular Clothes it's fine, but do not take your wedding dress here!!!! She hacked my beautiful Maggie Sottero zoey dress. She clearly doesn't know how to work with beading, which i get it but tell me you don't feel comfortable. I kept pulling my straps up all night. She also cut my dress too short!!! So my feet showed with no shoes on. Lastly, she put a nice dirt smudge right in the front and didn't press it, so i had to pay $180 more to go somewhere and have that pressed and cleaned. This lovely tailor shop altered my bridesmaid dress in a pinch! After receiving the dress an entire month late, I took it to Eda's less than 7 days before the date of our departure for the wedding, and she got it done - and early too. I forgot to bring my heels so she could figure the correct length of the dress with my heels on, but she had some in the shop that I tried on with my dress. Very grateful for that. All-in-all everything was quick, painless, and from what I gather, rather cheap compared to many other dress alteration prices at places like, say, Davids Bridal. I paid $45 to take off quite a bit of length from the dress, which I think is fair. Oh, and the dress looks great! read more

I called a few places up to get a London fog type of jacket shortened and Eda didn't play games and gave me a rough estimate over the phone. When I brought the jacket in she confirmed the estimate - $20. Not bad at all. When I picked up the jacket it looked fantastic, I paid the $20, and was out the door. The one thing to note is Eda's phone voice isn't as friendly as she is in person so don't get turned off if you call her and feel like she's short with you. Eda is the best. She saved my wedding gown. My gown arrived and needed to be taken in A LOT - who makes the proportions on those things?? Anyway, I took it in immediately and was impressed because she had 15-20 gowns she was working on! Clearly, I was in the right place. My gown was a difficult one with beading and lace and she handled the alterations and the bustle like a pro. She said she used to hand-make gowns a long time ago - and it shows. Anyway, besides taking it in, I wanted the lacy neckline customized a bit to look like a picture I found in a wedding magazine, and she did it - now it is truly my dream dress and it's all because of Eda. And by the way, when I went to go pick up my gown - all of those 20 wedding gowns were done and gone and mine was left - totally on time without causing me any stress. I brought my wedding gown in for some straightforward alterations, and Eda did a wonderful job! The bodice of my dress was already a perfect fit, so Eda just had to hem the dress and put in a bustle--but she did a wonderful job in just three weeks. I also love that Eda's is open most of the day on Saturday. Eda also fixed the veil I purchased from a bridal consignment shop. Basically, the blusher layer had several holes and I wanted it removed to leave a single layer of veil. Eda did this perfectly! Hemming my gown, putting in the bustle, and working on the veil came to $135. She thanked me for bringing cash, but it looked like she accepted credit cards. read more

Don't trust all the reviews. Just went in to pick up my bridesmaid's dress with her and Eda did a complete hack job on it. The length was uneven by 2" from the left to the right side and it was cut so that the trumpet effect of the dress in the back was completely destroyed- AND UNSALVAGABLE. The moving of the hook and eye closures on the back straps were sewn in amateurish at best and so misplaced Im struggling to understand how she thought they could have laid flat. My bridesmaid came here at my recommendation since I saw all of the positive reviews but she told me right away when she dropped it off that she didn't feel like eda was listening to what she was saying. She should have trusted her gut. Complete rip off to have spent money to have the bottom of a beautiful Vera wang bridesmaids dress hacked off unevenly. I mean INCHES VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. We are both so upset we could cry. I refused to pay her the $100 she wanted to charge- at least she only charged $45 for the shitty hem. I LOVE THIS SHOP!!! when I needed my daughters prom dress shortened I was worried that it couldn't be done; it was a delicate chiffon. I walked in and the first thing that I noticed was how clean and organized everything was. There was no clutter anywhere.I noticed a woman and a worker (I forgot to ask the name of the employees.) talking and chatting lightly about the alteration the customer wanted. It was apparent that this customer was a regular and a happy regular at that. The dressing rooms were large and solid , not a curtain to step behind. The area that was used to check for fit was private and very nice. It has a large platform to stand on and a huge mirror to check out the fit. The seamstress that helped us was super friendly,knowledgeable and laid back. She made my 17 year old welcome and not at all self conscious . Oh the price!!!!! I was expecting a very high price (I've been to another shop before and they were astronomical comparatively) I almost felt guilty paying so little for a job that you couldn't even tell where the hem had been made. It was that good!!! My daughter and I still can't find where the original sewing ends and the new began. I plan on going back to get some jeans altered. read more

I can't even begin to tell you my experience with this shop. I dropped of a dress size 12 wedding dress, I am a size 2 and I knew this would be a huge task. Other places had quoted me cheaper prices but their reviews were not so great. I came here base in her review and I am so glad I did. I live in Chesapeake so it was a drive but I knew I was paying for quality work. I believe we did 2 fitting total and my dress was done. My dress fits beautiful and it looks better than when I first got it. This shop is very professional and the owner takes pride in her work. She is not out to rip you off either. Eda is extremely kind and accommodating. I waited until last minute (4 weeks before our wedding) to get my wedding dress altered. Eda added a complete lining to the once sheer bodice of my dress while maintaining the integrity of the original beading. She also hemmed the bottom perfectly. The way the dress was originally designed had the skirt all one length. Eda made sure to raise the front, so I could walk, while leaving extra length in the back to create a train. I have to admit, I was nervous to drop my dress off somewhere I had never been -especially considering that I am not originally from around here - but I am so happy I did. It was ready in two weeks (no rush or anything requested). The dress has layers, ruching and boning in the bodice, but she quickly pinned it to where it need to be taken in. When picking it up, you would never know there were ever alterations done. I thought the $45 charged for taking it in and shortening the straps was reasonable, especially for the layers I mentioned that they had to work with. She had no problems accepting my credit card for payment. I will go back if I need other alterations in the future. read more

Eda is a godsend. I take all my alterations to her, everything from hems to completely redoing jackets to fit my weirdly shaped body (narrow shoulders, big short arms, medium bust, smallish waist, huge hips). Her prices are more than reasonable, she has a quick turnaround and everything fits afterward. I decided to have my wedding dress custom-made, which is what I recommend to everyone who wears a larger size or just wants an awesome dress buying experience. I had noted on multiple occasions the myriad of custom dresses I'd see in her shop when I went in, everything from prom dresses to gowns for a drag queen pageant (no lie!), so I knew she could probably handle anything I threw at her. I brought in dress pictures to show my ideas, she took my measurements and sent me fabric shopping. The dress was ready for the first fitting in less than two months (if you order a dress from a bridal shop you are looking at at least six months turnaround time). I went in for three fittings and at the end, had a dress that was perfectly my vision. The price was more than reasonable, probably 1/3 of what I'd pay if I ordered the dress from a store, plus it was custom fit to my body and my exact specifications. Filipino "Auntie" works fast! Came in to get a bridesmaid dress altered, tucked in on the chest, cut off length and adjust strap all for $65. I walked in with the dress, but forgot my shoes, so I just tiptoed while she pinned. It was done the following week and tried it on to make sure it works, still needed a bit more length trimmed so she got it done that day and I was able to pick up the following morning. Minus one because it was still a little loose on the chest, but since I didn't really have any more time left, I just let it go. Could also be how the dress was made.
