A lot of cities in the IE have hazardous waste collection only once a month, or even once a quarter, but we are fortunate in Rancho to have collection every Saturday from 8am to noon (minus Saturdays of a holiday weekend). They take a wide variety of hazardous waste including electronics waste including monitors and TVs, pesticides, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, motor oil, anti-freeze, brake fluid, paint, and more. Their website says they don't take tires or medical waste/sharps (though all RC fire stations have free medical sharps collection). This new location is in a permanent building, instead of sealand containers, and has a huge covered portico to keep it shady in the summer and dry in the winter. Everything is always well organized to get in and out fast. You may need to provide proof of residency, I usually have my water or trash bill with me that shows the address, just in case. You can always count on this place being open every Saturday, except for major holidays. Located on 9th Street between Hellman and Vineyard, you go south on Lion St. until it dead ends at their building. You go into their driveway and follow the path to left which will ultimately lead you to the drop off point. You fill out the paperwork, and the guys will unload your items. I have dropped off old batteries, monitors and other electronic devices. The city has made hazardous waste disposal a no-brainer. Great job, Rancho!

The cells are clean, food is hot and everyone does their part to make the jail run. It's takes multiple departments coming together for each client's care. So it really is a team effort. Not to mention you have dayshift and nightshift rotations occurring. It's truly unfortunate to see the negative experiences people have posted on here. Being on the inside for the past year, I will say that there are some hard working staff members that work at WVDC. And they do their best to provide the best service possible. The deputies work their butts off and deal with some of the worst and craziest stuff ever. You literally are exposed to things that nightmares are made of. So for that I commend the SGT's, deputies, doctors, nurses and clinicians that work at West Valley Detention Center. It takes a mental and physical toll on individuals to work in this environment. And it is not easy. That being said, when inmates are "mistreated" it is because they are not being compliant (not following instruction or doing what they are told) and/ or they are resisting the officers. That's where disciplines come into play (brick diet) and being sent to the hole. It's jail folks. Don't break the law and do bad things. Then you won't have to deal with the politics of being incarcerated. And if you do have to serve time, stay out of trouble. Follow the rules. Ultimately jail is a consequence of breaking the law. And I believe that West Valley meets expectations of providing what is required to each individual as well as offering additional help such as mental health services to individuals struggling with mental illness. West Valley Detention Center actually has the best mental health services available, compared to the other SBC jail locations (HDDC, Glen Helen, Central). So West Valley is where it's at! The most services available.

Bail Agents lose business constantly due to West Valley jailers not picking up the phone. People take their business elsewhere when we cannot provide them information in a timely fashion. It's very convenient for these jailers to just not pick up the phones. They're knowing to pick up, and leave it off the hook so it doesn't disturb them. They have no idea on how such a simple act of not picking up can negatively affect one's livelihood. But who cares right? we're just bail bondsman. People can care less about us.

There are so many inefficiencies in the system. I don't think the government system takes feedback or makes process improvements, but hopefully this review helps someone with their Jury Duty experience. At this courthouse, you receive a summons and you actually have to CALL 5pm the day prior to check if you need to physically come in. Considering they made me go online and fill in all this stuff, why can't I check some status online? If you have to report in person, the dress code is business casual. Although I feel like a lot of people were way more casual casual and they weren't sent home to change like the threat on the phone. In the room where the potential jurors meet, we were told to listen to a video but the TVs were unevenly distributed and the audio was awful. Then when we were suppose to find ourselves on these lists, the names were written in a thin white font that was hard to read. A lot of do this and wait, do this and wait. During one of my breaks I went to the restroom on first floor and it really needs renovations. No automated/sensors. In the women's bathroom on 1st 2 out of 4 sinks were broken. Then I made the mistake of getting a snack at the café inside the courthouse. Since they have no competition and they're the only option, they get to be slow inefficient and burn your food... in my case burnt my food twice. It was also so hectic as they didn't take names down, they just called out the type of order, so if multiple people ordered the same thing they all go up and look confused. I waited for ever for them to call me back saying they forgot what I ordered... Then it was burnt. I came back... They remade it... Burnt again. Pointless. I didn't have time to deal with them a third time. On a more positive note, this is the furthest I made it along in the jury selection process. I won't give any detail to maintain the confidentiality but I can say they ask questions to make sure there are no conflict of interest or strong biases that would negatively affect either parties. It was nice to see the justice system at work. Obviously the Jury Duty experience is a civic duty, but the courthouse really need some renovations to make the jury experience less awful.

The staff out front were really nice, especially the security guard. He randomly asked me if I had heard of Bucca di Beppo since the other staff members had never been and I replied, "Yes! In Claremont, it's great, I was just there in June." The security guard then told me a joke about Koi fish and it calmed my nerves about possibly having Covid again. I walked inside the building and the process was easy, just showed my conformation e-mail and confirmed a few details then went into the main room where they gave me a swab to swab my nostrils. The nurse was very helpful and was 6 feet away watching me do the swab and guiding me on how to do it. I was in and out of there within 10 minutes and it was a pleasant experience. If you're in the area, sign up through San Bernardino county health's website and select RC Resource Center. Definitely the fastest COVID test I've taken lately.
