I have seen a lot of negative reviews about Eddie's, but I will say that this was one of the best experiences I've ever had when returning merchandise. I ordered a new guitar, but when I received it, it had a bent, selector switch, and a scratch on the back and the tone knob was floating around in the case. I immediately reached out to Griffin and he told me that I would get a full refund. I had read stories about people not getting refunds and so I was a bit nervous. But he followed me every step of the way and his communication was second to none. He would even respond to my emails when he was not at work. Long story short, I returned the guitar and got a full refund with no questions asked. And on top of that, he sent me two Eddie's T-shirts, two sets of strings, and a tuner. You don't come across guys like Griffin very often. He was top-notch and the next time I'm looking for that special guitar. I will certainly reach out to him and give them the business. These guys are f'ing charlatan clowns. Overpriced, selling damaged goods, no interest in forming business relationships or honoring their word. It's a shame a mom and pop shop with such a stellar inventory would make their name by consistently ripping people off and blatantly lying to them again and again. They offer NO RETURNS, and, will blatantly lie to you over the phone and email about their price points. They'll take advantage of you at every given chance... it's like they have no interest in moving product, or forging lasting business relationships with their customers. I had been in contact with the shop for weeks to come by and check out a custom shop guitar retailing for 4 figures- the person I spoke to guaranteed me they'd match any price from the big box stores, so, I called musician's friend and Sweetwater and came to their shop prepared with my quotes. Sweetwater ended up offering the same instrument for over $200 less, along with a 30 day return window AND two years of FREE service. Eddie's would NOT match their price (despite saying otherwise over email) AND insisted they had to mail the guitar to me to keep my discount. They also would NOT accept a return if the guitar was damaged in shipping. Mind you this was all IN STORE- and over a $200 difference on a $5000 guitar. It all boiled down to me telling them 'look- I want to support local business- but you'll have to match this price as promised in our email exchange.' The employee looked at me blankly and angrily as he huffed and puffed that he would NOT match the price as promised, wouldn't offer a return if it was damaged, and would INSIST upon shipping this guitar I just had in my hands 2 minutes ago. I then pointed out that my pressing a button on my phone the same instrument would be mailed to my home at over a $200 discount from their price, along with a 30 day return window and 2 years free service. After exchanging some words on who the real fool is in this situation, I exited their ridiculously ostentatious bunker and ordered my instrument from Sweetwater. So- if you're looking for a place to try out a guitar listed online- this is an excellent place to do so!! Eddie's is an experience unlike any other guitar shop. I picked out 9 guitars, and Donny took great care to ensure they were all set up and in tune for my appointment. The guitars were all in excellent condition, and the whole team was incredibly nice and knowledgeable. There was no pressure to purchase anything. I was given plenty of space and time to play each instrument. I was between a few guitars, and Donny helped me outline the differences. He was incredibly helpful, and I am so happy with the guitar I purchased! The transaction on a CS Eddies spec'd Fender Strat went well. The guitar itself was immaculate.

I reached out about a guitar they had I was looking at for a few weeks. The salesman wouldn't budge off MSRP, understandable, it was kind of a one-off LP with a special top. But, I was able to get the shipping upgraded. I don't like my high-end guitars going through multiple heat/cold cycles on it's way to me. Took a couple of calls to get the invoice over. Paid and it was shipped as promised. When it showed up, it was very well packed and even sealed around the case. Item was as described (which Gibbys can be hit or miss these days). It was obvious a setup wasn't done on the guitar as after I tuned it up, the action and intonation were way off. It was a typical Gibson factory setup. So, I did have to pay my local tech $100 for a setup, which is why I docked a star. I would do business with them again. Maybe they can send me some NYXL's for my trouble though? read more

This could be a great guitar store, but they choose not to be. The inventory is good, but they are appointment only, in an attempt to create an exclusive vibe. They are helpful when you get in there, if you can get over the very odd environment / culture. I hope they change their business model and make it more about the clients. I think this could be a great guitar shop if they wanted it to be. I came to town for a weekend, having purchased a guitar a few years prior. They told me they were booked for the weekend and there was nothing they could do. Shame, because I was hoping to buy a guitar they had in stock. I don't really know why they feel they need to do the appointment thing. Hopefully they hear enough of these comments! That being said, I had a good experience the first time I bought a guitar there. Bought an EVH for close to 4k in 2021. It was white. When I picked the guitar up I instantly noticed that the back had a red tint to it. The interior of the case is red and that red color had leeched into the white finish. I let them know the day I received it. I sent them images showing this and they stated that the reddish color could be from my camera and probably not really there. I did not want my money back, I just wanted one that was not red tinted on the back. I knew when I wanted to sell it someone else would have the exact same issue with it I did. After a lot of back and forth, getting no where, they decided they would help me out. It would cost me though. I would have to pay to ship it back and a restocking fee etc. In the end they made it pretty difficult, enough that I still have the guitar. I bought 100% cotton fabric and wrapped up the guitar so that it will not turn the same color as the case interior. I have never opened the case since then so I really can not say how that is working lol. For me, this is not an expensive guitar and a lesson learned. Having a collection of several 100 guitars, most being Gibson Les Paul's, I am glad a learned from buying this one that they do not give a rip. Before the owner or some jerk there wants to respond to this and call me out, just think about it. I have the emails, images, and the fact that the same salesmen promised me that I could purchase one of two 20k each guitars that you got at that time, but when it came in the salesmen told me I could bid on it. He would not sell to be for full MSRP + tax, but I would have to pay more or beat the bids. I purchased this 4k EVH to build a relationship with this salesmen and store so I could snag one of these Korina V's with BRW FB. The funny thing is I did end up getting three of them because I kept my word to each shop that I ask to sell one to me. The three that did I bought one from each instead of going back on my word. The best part is this, I saw the same V on Reverb for sale (I knew the Serial Number of the one they said they would sell me and have pictures of it too). I spoke to the guy and ask him where he bought it and he told me Eddie's. I showed him the images they sent me of it and he bought it for less than MSRP LOL. I had a terrible experience with Eddie's Guitars out of St. Louis. Just wanted to vent but also warn others about them. I recently bought a "used" Suhr Classic S Antique online from Eddies. When I bought it, Granville the manager, told me it is a brand new guitar but they have to list it as new in order to mark it down from MSRP. The guitar arrived and I immediately hated the neck finish. Suhr calls it satin nitro but it is the stickiest/tackiest neck finish I have ever experienced. I have played other Suhrs with satin neck finish and they have been fine, just like other guitars with satin neck finish. The next day I called the store to return it, but was told by Donny there are no returns on used items. I asked them to make an exception since it was a brand new guitar, in all but price. No was the answer, but he'd allow me to do an exchange for something of equal or greater value. I asked him again to allow a return and said I'd ship it back insured and pay for their shipping costs to me. I was told no again but I could talk to Granville who was out that day. That night, assuming I was not going to be able to return it, I browsed their website looking for another guitar and found a Suhr Standard with a beautiful blue flame top that I liked, even though it was $1,000 more than what I paid for the Classic S. I googled "Suhr standard blue" and the exact guitar popped up as a Reverb listing from Eddies. I saved it to my favorites and immediately got an email with a 10% off offer, which was $400. The next day I called Granville and pleaded with him to take the guitar back as it was a new guitar except for the price. He explained since it was a deep discount he could not accept it back. I repeated my offer to pay for freight both ways and he still refused. Defeated I then said I would like to exchange it for the Suhr Standard, and asked for the same $400 Reverb discount. He said no and gave me some bs excuse that they are able to offer these discounts on Reverb since Reverb waives their fees since they do $3mm of business on the site. I asked what Reverb's fees have to do with anything since I am buying the guitar directly from Eddie's, and there are no Reverb fees to pay or waive. He didn't really answer but offered $100 off which I reluctantly accepted as they had me in a corner and were not going to give me the 10% off that were offering to anyone buying the guitar on Reverb. These guys are not a friendly or customer oriented lot. Greed. They could have easily allowed me to return the original guitar at no cost to them as it was new and I was covering all shipping. Likewise they could have offered me the $400 Reverb discount offered to everyone who saves that guitar on Reverb. The excuse Granville gave me is a total lie that only an idiot would accept. Avoid this greedy lot, and find a company who will work with their customers in these days where online purchases are the norm. read more

Matt contacted me to let me know it was a rough week to meet because he was traveling, a co-worker was out sick, and another co-worker was on vacation. I bought a new old stock fender American original 60s thinline from these guys and was told it was brand new in the box but they were selling it as used to give me a bigger discount. The guitar came and it was new in the box, but they had not checked it out at all, and it was damaged in the f-hiole. They would not let me exchange it without up charging me. They said I could not return it for a refund. They are very deceptive and I would never deal with them again. They didn't even give me a invoice so I could have a record of the sell. I called Fender and talk to them, and they at least seemed very disappointed and said they would follow up. They also offered for me to take it to another dealer to get it repaired even though it's not under warranty because they listed it as a used guitar even though it was new. All I was hoping for was maybe $100 to get it repaired but they would not even offer a dollar. read more

Since my last review, I have purchased a few more heirloom pieces from Eddie's. Matt and Brett are extremely creative in assisting to augment my collection. As usual, everything has arrived in pristine condition. I feel like I'm cheating on them if I buy a set of strings elsewhere. They are so honest and always available for questions, concerns, or just to talk guitars...I am almost certain they know as much, if not more about the instruments than the builders themselves....They will always be my go-to for high-end guitars, accessories, and electronics. I bought a new Gibson sg custom from eddies guitars thru reverb. I started with a lot of questions I ask Brett if this guitar had been on display or played by customers and the answer was no we have been closed because of covid. I also told him I worked out of town and had concerns about shipping not being home and it was during deep freeze and didn't want the guitar damaged he said no problem I was covered in case something happened like checking excetra. I had purchased two guitars from them one thru the store One reverb. We could not work out a time when I was home to sign for delivery so I had them deliver to my neighbors. They came on Tuesday I told them I will not be home till Sunday to open they said no problem. Feeling confident this guitar had no handling marks or issues I made the purchase. When I opened the guitars the cheaper one had a broken neck. The Sg custom had damage but it was not done while in the box it was from handling. I contacted Eddie's immediately Monday morning telling them of my problems sent pics. They said they would clam the broken neck and give me refund. The Sg custom was another story and that it had been to long to return. I told them I just opened yesterday they said I have only 48 hrs to return and it said that in reverb add which I see nothing saying that what it says is if item arrives other than described I can get a refund they said no and told me they did not send it that way and offered me a exchange I said no and that I told them I was only interested in this one because of the top. I feel taken advantage of I told them and insist on full refund. They said no. If you value quality and costumer service go somewhere else. I recently ordered a new Strat from Eddie's. I was a bit apprehensive because it's obviously better to see the guitar in person and actually play it BEFORE buying. However, these guys couldn't have made the online experience any easier. First off you get SPECTACULAR photos of the guitar you will actually be buying. Not just stock photos like some of the big chains. The guitar I bought is an American Standard Strat in Sienna Sunburst. For something like this, the color, the burst, and the wood grain vary WIDELY! I'm a very picky person so seeing the actual guitar was huge to me. Secondly they have a return policy to alleviate any worries about how the guitar might play or look once you get it. (If you decide to return the item, you have to pay for shipping in BOTH directions so make sure you read their policy to make sure you're comfortable with the terms). Thirdly, the guys there work with you to answer your questions. I dealt with Nathan and he was very helpful. He responded to all my e-mails usually within an hour or so, including weekends. In fact, I finally decided to pull the trigger to buy the guitar on a Sunday evening and Nathan responded about 15 minutes after! Lastly, these guys take GREAT care of their stock. Seriously. I downloaded their photos of my guitar because they looked so nice, and based on the dates, the guitar was hanging around since August 2013. It came to me in IMMACULATE shape. I mean like it came straight from Fender. This is not something sitting around a shop being banged on by 14 year olds on the way home from school every day! You are getting a VERY well-cared for instrument. Mine came with all the tags and protective plastic and, with a quick tune-up, played PERFECTLY right out of the box. Of course one look at their website will show you this is no Guitar Center! This is a store for players and collectors. In fact, it's now on my list of places to visit. So to sum things up: Great service (ordered Sunday night; guitar arrived Thursday afternoon; Eddie's even provided tracking through UPS so I could see the progress of delivery through the week). Great price (same price as everywhere else; no shipping; no tax in NYS). New guitar in spectacular condition. Will DEFINITELY be keeping my eye on their site for my next guitar. read more

Rude and unhelpful customer service, even after purchasing a 4000+$ guitar through Eddie's online store. Blames guitar defect on customer, although local tech expert and guitar manufacturer confirm defect cannot be caused by customer. Offers absolutely no help at all to resolve situation. I had to go through another store (i.e. not Eddie's); said store then did all the work to inspect and confirm problem, contact manufacturer and ship them the guitar for repair or replacement (still waiting for it). Other store and guitar manufacturer are both baffled by Eddie's bad customer service. I bought from Eddie's based on Reverb reviews. I would never buy anything from Eddie's again. Anyone who has read transcripts of my conversations with Eddie's (all in Reverb chat) cannot understand how a store could give such bad customer service. Amazing guitars, lousy service. Since I was little, I've wanted to play guitar. My mother bought me a cheap Peavey when I was fourteen, and I played it nonstop. Slowly through the years, I've been able to upgrade my gear. Finally, as an adult with a real job, I had the ability to purchase a nice guitar, not a $3,000 one but something American and a decent quality. Eddie's Guitars had a Fender Jaguar Signature Johnny Marr in stock. I am obsessed with The Smiths and Jaguars in general. After months eying prices and watching tutorials online, I was about to lay hands on this guitar for the first time. First of all, Eddie's isn't walk-in friendly. I saw that they were open and decided to check it out. I was buzzed in. When I explained my reason for visiting, the clerk took the Jaguar off the wall and began prepping it for my use. I explained my setup at home, and he took me to an amp and gave me an overdrive pedal to play with. Right away, I wasn't happy with the sound. Fenders tend to have a hum, and it was accentuated by both the room and amp. I asked him if I could try a different amp or pedal, and he basically ignored my request. I asked him about noiseless pickups, and he said that I didn't want them. I told him that I had never played on a guitar with them, and he continued to tell me that I didn't want a guitar with noiseless pickups. They had guitars with that option on them, and I wanted to try them, but the clerk said that they were expensive and that he didn't want me to touch them. One was sold, the other $3,500. We haggled over the Jaguar, and he didn't give me a straight answer. He did imply that there would be a discount if I paid a certain way. Cash, of course. I left and didn't feel particularly great about my experience. However, the story doesn't end there. A few days ago, I was in search of guitar pedals. I was building my first board. After striking out at another musician's store, I decided to call Eddie's. The clerk said that they were open until one, by appointment. It was currently noon. I told him that I could be there by 12:30. He felt like that was enough time. He couldn't sell me a pedal in a half hour's time. Eddie's has a certain standard that they try to abide by when dealing with their guitars. I respect that. They try to keep their guitars in the peak of condition. However, when that standard gives way to poor customer interaction and simple tasks like helping customers pick out a guitar pedal, then I don't respect it. I won't be purchasing anything for Eddie's Guitars until I feel like they give me better service and respect their customers. read more

I hate to have to write a bad review, but in this case, I feel I need to in order to protect others from making the same mistake that I have made. I purchased at Taylor 324 guitar from this place back in September or October. Compared to the other guitars that these people sell I suppose mine, at $1300, was chump change and really not worth their time or interest. Well, that's a lot of money for me to spend. I had played this model at Guitar Center and was thrilled with the way it sounded. Unfortunately, by the time I had the money to purchase that guitar it had already sold. I found the same model offered through Eddie's. I arranged to purchase it. I drove 85 miles one way to pick up the guitar. I was very excited to get it. Now, here's where I am at fault in this review. I did not play the guitar to any great degree when I picked it up. To be honest, I was a bit self-conscious at that time (I get nervous playing around other people, particularly when they are professional players). I simply strummed it a few times and said "wrap it up". I did not figure that I would need to play it or have it set up . . . not at that price. I own a Taylor DN3 which was perfectly set up from the start (as one would expect). By the time I made the long drive back to my home it was late and I wasn't able to play the guitar. The next day I did play the guitar. Wow. What a major disappointment. The guitar has a terrible, terrrrible buzz. At that point I should have taken it right back . . . but . . . you know, I have a job and stuff. I couldn't get back to St. Louis for at least a week. By that time I got called out of town on business so it was almost two weeks before I had a chance to make the trip to St. Louis. When I called Eddies to tell them that I wasn't happy and that I would like to bring the guitar back . . . they basically told me there was nothing they could do for me. This is poor customer service. It's just not good. I am angry (to this day) because I honestly feel as though A: they did not even bother to play the guitar themselves, even though they knew I was coming in to buy it or B: they did play the guitar, knew it was faulty, and sold it to me anyhow. Granted, I should have played the guitar before I bought it, so . . . say what you will. I still believe that a good shop would not have let this guitar go out the door, as representative of their business . . . and/or they would have done what they could to help me when I told them about the problem, even if it was two weeks later. Since then I've had another shop look at the guitar. They did some truss rod adjustment and also noted that someone had tried to put a pickup under the saddle. They were able to remove some of the buzz, but it STILL buzzes like mad. I believe it has a fret problem, but I'm no pro and I don't have another hundred bucks to drop on getting this thirteen-hundred dollar piece of junk fixed. I will also say that while the tech who helped (?) me out was very nice . . . the other guy in the shop did not even look up and say hello or good bye. Very surly. You would think that at a place as small as this . . . a customer would get some sort of acknowledgement. I own a retail shop and I make it a point to greet each person who comes through my door and I wish them well upon their exit . . . whether they spend a hundred dollars or nothing at all. It's not just good business . . . it's good period. You would think that a guy who drops $1300 right in front of you would warrant a "thanks", if nothing else. Maybe I just didn't spend enough. In my opinion, I spent $1300 too much. I will never spend another dime at this place and I honestly cannot recommend that you do either. Again, I do not like to post a negative review . . . but each time I play this guitar I get angry. A good guitar should make a guy feel good, particularly for this kind of $$. This one does not. Yes, I accept my responsibility in this situation, but I feel as though the seller of this lemon bears some responsibility as well. I'm leaving a 2-star review only because to leave a 1-star review would not take into account my own failings. I would also like to note that I own a busy retail establishment in a tourist town. I like to play guitar during down time behind the counter. When someone says "my, that's a pretty guitar" . . . I say . . . "yeah . . . but let me tell you a story . . . ". But I am in the market for a certain type of instrument, and they had something that I had yet to try. Since I had a little time I dropped in to check it / them out. The entire experience was off-putting from the beginning to the end. Enough so that I'm taking time to write about it here. Unwelcoming, high and mighty, snobbery ... you get the picture. Based on my experience I will never set foot in there again. There are other vintage shops nearby with people as nice as can be. If you want more info on my experience read on... * Doorbell: the first thing I experienced is a locked door and a minute wait for someone to make their way up to buzz me in * Guy greets me, no smile, looks me up and down and asks what i'm there for * I mention the instrument I saw online and with a sneer asks, "well did you make an appointment?" Um, no. He explains that not all the guitars are in the building, but checks the computer and finds this one is on premise * Five minutes later he tells me where to sit (apparently I was waiting on the wrong stool), hands me the guitar after an "Enterprise Rent-a-Car" like walk-about with it - I was feeling like a peasant on sacred ground and the high priest was begrudgingly handing me a relic belonging to Aristotle himself (note: it wasn't even a vintage item - it was a "new" instrument) * No patch cable or amp, but that's okay I want to get a feel for the instrument sans another variable. I had to ask for it after a couple minutes, which dragging his feet eventually brought to me (to his defense I think he must do everything slowly, and that came off as disinterested in providing service to me). * Guy hovered behind the desk maybe 10 feet from me (I'm being watched closely) * I played for a few minutes before being interrupted with a question about how I liked the instrument. Yeah, it's nice thanks. A few minutes later, again - any questions? No thanks. a few minutes later again, so what do you think? when I'm getting to know an instrument I want to spend a bit of time with it. At this point I had played for maybe 10-15 minutes. Was that enough? maybe. did i want a bit more (with less interruption), yes of course I did. I wasn't doing anything crazy - I'm a decent player (e.g., I majored in classical guitar in college), and there was nobody else on the showroom floor except a UPS driver picking up some instruments. * After the third interruption he began making his way back over to me, body language indicating that my time with the instrument was over. Handing it back he examined it like an archaeologist discovering a new fossilized species. He wiped it down (great) and I doubt there's a single spec that I had ever been there * I spoke about what I liked about it, and I mentioned a setup change I thought the instrument would benefit from, and instead of agreeing or just acknowledging my recommendation he argued with me about it...huh? was this like his personal instrument??? * No offer to see another instrument, no thank you for stopping by, nothing. I said thank you and even offered my name and hand shake. That was it, 30 minutes after arriving on a totally "dead" snowy afternoon with nobody else in the store and showing interest in a multiple four figure instrument. I won't be taking my cash or interest back there again. If you know what you want, they have it (call ahead and make an appointment!), and you don't care if they treat you like an unwelcomed passerby, then by all means shop at Eddies Guitars. If you want some help finding what you are looking for, enjoy customer service, or just want to get to know an instrument - this is not the place you are looking for, sadly. St. Louis needs more great guitar shops. I'll be heading out of town more than likely to find what I'm looking for. read more

TERRIFIC guitar and purchase experience with Eddie's Guitars! I reside in Cincinnati, Ohio, but this St. Louis, MO shop does a great job of creating YouTube demos that showcase their guitars' unique features, along with a skilled playing style that brings out the best of each. They had a Gibson LG-2 VS Red Spruce acoustic that I had been scouting. They offered me a great deal on price/shipping. It arrived 2 days after I ordered it over the phone. PERFECT. Buying instruments in the $2k and up range can be daunting and risky, but this was an easy deal that met/exceeded expectations. Will definitely keep an eye on their future listings. read more
