These guys were an absolute nightmare. I started with $462K in April 2006 (yes, I know baaaaaad…read moretiming) and finally left them in March 2012 with only $353K. I paid them aprox. $40K in advisory fees to lose me another $70K! I know that the market was a not the best during this time, but I can compare them to my other investments during that time. I didn't have all of my assets under their advisement. That's the madding thing, my smaller investments (work 401K) not only recovered within that same time frame (as did my wife's), but had a positive return by the time I left CWM (4-5%). In addition, I had purchased some securities on my own (unfortunately only a small fraction to what they were managing, $40Kish) and I was almost double by the time I left CWM (since then they have continued to do very well and I am now over 100% return). They were recommended to me by a friend that had invested with them during the boom times (2002-2005) and had made a lot of money for them, however when thing got tough, these guys fell on their faces. In my opinion, they have no clue of what they are doing.

When I returned to Washington State in approximately October/November 2019, I looked up to see if Fidelity had in-person offices I could go to and ask some general questions about my account to. I found this location, however I did not immediately visit as I worked through most of my questions, such as how to change my address on the account, on my own. After checking the online balance and withdrawal process, I decided it was time to come in and just ask if I could withdraw funds. I had not talked to a Fidelity financial advisor before and was uncertain as to if/how to withdraw funds. Remembering this location, I arrived a little after 11:00 a.m. this morning, Thursday 5 October 2023. Parking spaces were easy to navigate and the entrance easy to find. The interior was pristine and a friendly front desk worker, who I decided to term my financial advisor, greeted me. I asked if it was possible to withdraw funds from my account, to which he walked me through an example of what it might look like/entail to withdraw funds in full or partial amount from the account. Since I did not have my account details with me, he used my ID to pull up the account. He was friendly and knowledgable. The two big drawbacks I found out to withdrawing funds at my age (approximately 31 years old) were: 1) taxes, and 2) a 10% penalty for not being 59.5 years of age or older. This was very helpful information, as was the two general withdrawal options for a partial withdrawal: 1) a set withdrawal amount, or 2) a set in-your-pocket amount. My tiny little brain and I left with much to think about and I was happy to visit and get some guidance.

I had to identify and correct these issues myself, and the firm conducted extra internal review without informing me. The errors I identified were either acknowledged in writing or revised in subsequent drafts. When I met with the owner on June 8 and presented detailed emails outlining these errors, he said he would look into it but never responded. My check was cashed on June 12 despite unresolved problems, and a certified letter I sent on June 15 requesting an amicable resolution was ignored. The final bill was double my deposit, with no communication that costs would increase. Although the firm advertises decades of experience and attention to detail, the work I received did not reflect those claims. Prior Yelp reviews show similar concerns, and I'm sharing my experience so others can make informed decisions
