What an amazing experience! We came looking to learn the basics of strudel... and we got that and then some. We enjoyed the lunch/apple strudel class. Our chef was amazing, very easy to understand ( English spoken) and a great teacher. For lunch he prepared a traditional goulash soup which was delicious. We also learned how to make Salzburger Nockerl! I highly recommend going them for any of their classes or activities. They also do beer pairings! If you are looking for a hands on cooking experience look no further!

What a great experience!! So fun and informative, and a great lunch with desserts we made. A must for anyone who has a couple hours to spend enjoying the best kitchen experience ever. Thanks so much,

This was a phenomenal experience! Johann taught us how to make traditional apple strudel and Salzburger Nockerl. It's amazing to watch the stretching of the dough for the strudel. We were all divided into small groups to make our own. And while the desserts baked, he served us goulash and wine. Everything was delicious. The class was easy to book online and pretty easy to find in Salzburg. The class was in a little room carved into the side of the mountain. Learning how to create something from another country is a priceless souvenir that will last your whole life. Take notes and videos so you can recreate the magic at home!

The apple strudel class was a great way to take a break from sight seeing and learn how to make this classic dessert. So fun to meet other travelers and sit down together to enjoy our dessert at the end! I found and booked the class online. This place is easy to miss if you're not really looking for it but it's close by the river and 10-15min walking distance from many sites in old town. Loved the atmosphere- the cave was refreshingly cool and small group environment made the experience special and fun. Johannes was very welcoming and friendly, he did a demo for us and then we got into groups of 3-4 to make our own strudels. The preparation is super simple and since it is more a rustic dessert you don't need to follow exact measurements for the filling, just the dough (recipe is found on the Edelweiss cooking school facebook page). It was easy for everyone to participate and ask questions and laugh together. Select drinks available- coffee, wine, beer, cola, for a few euros. Fun experience, and for those wanting even more you can also add on/book goulash soup lunch and learn how to make the Salzburg nockerl dessert too.

Traveling to Salzburg with family or friends? This is a must do! You'll meet and mingle with fellow travelers and have a great time learning the art of the strudel. As for any prerequisites or age restriction, we brought our 9 year old daughter (who really enjoyed the activity and can't wait to try baking this on her own), but this is something I think participants of any age would enjoy. And as I am someone who burns toast, the fact that even a kitchen hazard such as myself was able to follow along is a testament to the clear instructions of our chef. The class took us about an hour and a half, so it's was a perfect stop during our day of sightseeing old town Salzburg. The setting is also quite interesting, set in a tiny building that's built into the side of a stone cliff. Apparently the space has a rich history and has been in continuous use for over 500 years! I can't say enough about the experience and the lasting memories we'll share with our daughter. It really made what was already a fantastic trip, even more so!

This is such a unique place in Salzburg to learn how to prepare Austrian food. It is carved into a mountainside and has a nice cavern feel. Learning to cook apple strudel and pretzel was a fun experience. Traveling all over Europe, most of the countries I visited all have their own version of strudel. I will definitely try the recipes And techniques I learned from the class. I highly recommend going to this class and having a more intimate cultural experience when traveling to Salzburg.
We loved this experience. About ten people get together in a room and learn how to make pretzels and apple strudel. They do just the right amount of pre-prep so you can do the fun part of shaping and baking the pretzels and strudel and also feel like you know enough to make pretzels at home. After the pretzels and strudel are baked, you and your classmates sit down to a lovely dinner of goulash or lentil soup plus the pretzel and strudel. You're also treated to an opera/Sound of Music performance from the of the talented staff. All that and the place is in a cave in the side of a mountain! read more

Johann did a great job at teaching us how to make apple strudel. We gathered around a table, and he did the whole process, and then we went back to our table, and made our strudel. Johann came around to each table to assist if needed. Then he showed us the ingredients for the dough, and showed us the ingredients for the cookies (kipferl). We then roiled out the cookie dough and placed them in a special baking pan. (Small, individual "half moon" shapes) For lunch we had goulash soup, which was delicious. Tap water was served in glass pitchers, or you could pay for beer, drinks, etc. We were stuffed after the soup, strudel and cookies. Everything was great. This is definitely a 5 star experience. read more
We enjoyed a fantastic class learning to make strudel and Austrian crescent cookies. Celine, our instructor, was friendly and knowledgeable. The lentil soup and goulash soup lunch was delicious, and the beer cold. Highly recommended to those traveling to Salzburg who are looking for a fun and relaxing thing to do. read more

Fantastic cultured cooking experience in a cave! We were guided through the process of making a strudel and nockerl with precision through an enjoyable and engaging format. Really impressed and the overall experience was one I'd recommend to everyone, whether you're an expert or a newbie! read more

The whole experience was okay for me. Felt a bit rushed and procedural as some aspects of the recipe are already done for you. Not a lot of room for feedback during the process. Staff was pleasant but seemed a bit bored, like they just wanted to get it over with. I enjoyed the lunch provided but it was very light. Strudel and cookies came out great and I enjoyed that they split the leftovers so you could take with you. read more

We had a great time making apple Strudel and Salzburger Nocherl. My wife and I were joined by three younger kids and we all enjoyed talking, cooking and eating together. Johanna was a superb instructor and was so patient with us all. She prepared Goulash for our lunch which we had while our deserts were baking. There is nothing better than having warm strudel after a hearty bowl of goulash. We had enough for breakfast the next morning. This is a great experience to get away from the tourist crowd and enjoy a relaxing couple of hours in a centuries old building. It was originally the customs office for the gate in to Salzburg and you step back in time when you enter. It is 10 minutes walk from Old Town or the city center. We can't wait to try all the Austrian recipes from the cook book we bought. This is a must for visitors who want to experience an important part of the Austrian culture rather than just read about it. read more

The apple strudels were delicious, as were the nockrl. They walked us through the process quickly and efficiently; they had done a bunch of prep work in advance so that we could have the experience of making the strudel without having to, for example, wait a long time (or come back the next day) for the dough to set. The ambiance was unique -- a kitchen carved into the side of one of Old Salzburg's cliffs. The one thing I might have wanted was that, while they did a good job of showing how flexible the recipe was, how you could adjust things like sugar and cinnamon to taste, etc, they didn't really explain why we might choose particular proportions other than the default which they recommended. It would have been interesting to learn more about whether there are specific variants used in different regions or in different shops, whether there are maybe a few common variants that we could try, etc. read more

We had an amazing fun time making strudel, cookies, and then enjoying the included soup meal. The school is in an ancient spot in the city wall right on the river near the pedestrian bridge. Wonderful friendly teachers and nice clean facility. Great activity for tourists! read more

Johann's class was by far the best experience we had while in Salzburg, I am still dreaming about our wonderful evening! Not only was he accommodating during the off season and held a special class for us but he was wonderful to work both when scheduling and during the class. He was thorough and friendly when teaching, showed you exactly what to do and how to do it, and made the entire evening so relaxing and fun. The classes are held in an absolutely charming location, tucked away next to the river, and was very romantic. The food he made was fantastic! I was actually able to go home and recreate both recipes successfully and had so many compliments on how delicious it tasted. Go book your class with Johann right now, do not miss this once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you, Johann!!! read more
