She threatened to have our car towed every 5 minutes when it wasn't parked how she liked it. She even screamed and shoved her finger in my face one time over parking in the wrong spot during a snow day (I didn't know it would snow over night). Our heating wasn't working/was way too expensive for how low we kept it and she kept telling us that leaving the heat on 62 was high for the winter and so of course a $350/month heating bill was normal. Meanwhile we were sleeping in parkas to keep from freezing in the night. To this day we think she had linked our apartments gas to the rest of the building and made us pay for it because every national grid inspection told us our gas bill should be around $55/month. One of the rooms the gas didn't work and she refused to have it fixed/replaced and said it worked fine, when it was literally 10 degrees colder in that room consistently. One of my roomies was a day or two late on rent and she threatened to have us all evicted when it was just a minor miscommunication with her family on the payment schedule. We also had to threaten taking her to court to get our security deposit back. She also leased the apartment for the next year out to other tenants without letting us know, so we were forced to move. Kathy might have cheap properties and good locations but some of the bullshit we had to deal with was not worth it. Now that I'm in a new housing situation with a respectful landlord, I realize how slimy she behaved and how she preyed on us students because it was our first apartment and we didn't know any better. I'm so glad to be done with her.

If you expect to breathe clean air in your home, without secondhand smoke, this is not the place for you.

The architecture is nice enough given that it is a campus that is not as old as many, especially amongst those Universities in New England. The Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Building is a highlight, which is visible to your left as you cross the river into campus. Cumnock Hall with its columned front is another. Though I did not have time to take advantage of it, there is an Art Gallery on campus for those with such proclivities. The campus is not worth going out of your way to see, but if you happen to be in Lowell anyway...why not? There is a Starbucks on campus and a Dunkin across the street on the north end to reward you with a coffee and treat for your trouble.

The head property manager Rebecca is possibly one of the least helpful people I've ever met. And she has the personality of a wet towel. I don't feel like she's not really looking to make life more fun or easier for residents. She's just an office worker. And yes, they still do monthly events for residents, but few residents attend. I stopped going because of the lack of hospitality from the office staff. The maintenance staff is great -- very friendly and quick to respond. They keep the grounds clean and clear of cigarette butts and garbage, which is great because -- even though residents are asked not to smoke near the entrances -- they still do and then they toss their butts on the ground. The building is very nice and well-maintained, apartments are large and it's a great community for people with pets. As with most places, not all residents pick up after their pets -- so you have to watch where you walk in the green space. Nose can be an issue between apartments above and beside you. Overall, my rating teeters between 2.5 and 3 stars. It's an OK place to live if you don't mind being a number to the onsite property managers.

And the tile, that was the biggest transformation! The grout looks fresh and new, and all stains in the kitchen and hot tub room are gone.
