The overgrown tree
Ed U.

** The following review reflects my experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** These are indeed challenging times, and I'm not even referring to the pandemic itself but how life throws you lemons unexpectedly. Well, I'm not the self-sufficient, HGTV-obsessed type that can make lemonade out of those lemons. That's why I appreciate a responsive and conscientious business owner like Jeremy who handled two separate tree trimming situations for me. The first was triggered by a neighbor who complained my backyard tree was encroaching on her property. I just wasn't aware since I don't live there, and indeed it was overgrown and needed attention. I found Jeremy when I went searching for a tree service on Yelp. He was the first to respond to the suggested inquiries, and we were able to meet within a couple of days in order to assess the job and give me a quote. Within a couple of weeks, accompanied by his crew, he took care of the trimming by messaging me helpful photo updates for feedback and guidance and hauling away the debris all within an afternoon. Just a few weeks later, the turbulent rainstorms knocked down the fencing around my place, and I needed a lot of trees to be cut back and cleared away. Once again, for a reasonable price, he managed this job by himself in a single afternoon. I found out later he also handles fence replacements and landscaping, and I would've asked him for an estimate had I not found someone else for that part of the job. Jeremy never asked me to review him here, but I wanted to let others know I have been a very satisfied customer of his services. RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? This was a technically challenging project involving a steep hill and very mature redwood roots. Standout qualities of this company are: 1. Ease of quoting process Before coming out in person, they were able to give us a ballpark price based on dimensions, fence type, and site images. This allowed me to decide whether to move forward and I thought this was really respectful of my time. Then, Dago, the owner, came for the site visit and to discuss details. 2. No bait and switch In ironing out the details, there was some miscommunication about whether staining was included. Dago was able to meet us halfway with the price increase. This honest business style continued throughout the project and no change orders or unexpected price increases happened. 3. Detail oriented Throughout the project, we discussed details such as fence posts placement relative to tree roots, post height, etc. Dago was both available in person and by email via his assistant Maria. It was also nice to have responses confirmed in writing so that things were clear and there would be no bait and switch. 4. Personality Dago is a really nice person and I enjoy speaking with his about his geriatric dogs, etc. This also helped me not feel anxious about the project, because I felt that I could trust him. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range, another was around $12K, and an outlier was above $20K. Dago's price was the lowest quote (with minute differences in material) and we are very glad we went with him!

I immediately got a good vibe from Dago when he came to give an estimate for our project. Working…read morewith Maria to get everything scheduled was also a very pleasant experience. The crew did a great job and we are very happy with how our installation went. I highly recommend and would definitely work with Dago again if I have another project.

4 stars for quality work. 0 stars for ethical business…read morepractices I hired Melvin and George from La Económica Landscaping after receiving a written estimate from their coordinator, Cindy, for work that included: * Garden clean-up & hauling - $1,375 * Mulch + small brick installation (combined) - $650 Total: $2,025 And a recurring monthly maintenance fee at $200 The crew did a nice job with the clean-up. Their labor and craftsmanship were good. However, the way this business operates is extremely concerning. Even though the scope was clearly defined both verbally and in writing, the owner later tried to change the terms of the estimate, claiming parts of the agreed-upon work were "mistakenly included." Throughout the process, there were multiple "gotcha" moments, surprise clarifications, shifting explanations, and attempts to downplay what was originally promised. Despite the written estimate explicitly listing a "mulch + small brick installation (combined)", the brick installation was never completed. When I followed up, they claimed it had been a "mistake" in the estimate and refused to honor that part of the agreement. Communication became defensive, taunting, and unprofessional, and rather than resolve the situation collaboratively, the owner sent a $300 refund before we had even reached an agreement, then canceled my ongoing maintenance service altogether. It's disappointing, because the work quality itself was solid. But their business ethics and communication practices are sketchy. They seem more focused on short-term profit than building long-term relationships or standing by their written commitments. They told me the brick feature would enhance the look of my garden. I guess I'll never find out. If you decide to hire them, make sure every detail is documented and signed. Otherwise, expect last-minute changes and confusion about what you actually paid for.

We ended up with a flooded garage and basically a mini-lake forming around the house. It was a mess! I called Muneer from Intuitive Landscaping, and he was absolutely incredible. He was literally about to head off on a trip, but he dropped everything to come over and help us out. He even called in Victor, who came in on his day off to replace the sump pump, get all the water out, and just take care of the entire situation for us. Honestly, it's so rare to find a company that genuinely cares this much about their customers. I just want to say a big thank you to the whole Intuitive Landscaping team. If anyone needs any landscaping or outdoor work done, I can't recommend them enough!

He gave me a very reasonable quote which he honored, and we got it scheduled. A few days later, his team came out and worked their tails off for a solid week. The results are amazing. They installed a lawn where there used to be gravel, built a new gate to the side yard, installed transformers to run low-voltage nights automatically when it's dark, and redid a lot of the irrigation. The yard looks so much better, and I'm looking forward to spending the summer out in it. I highly recommend Oscar and his team!

My backyard patio was already landscaped, but it had a small koi fish pond that I was trying to get rid of. I didn't want the fish, it was creating mold/attracting mosquitos to the water, and the pumps took up a lot of space. So I wanted to remove it completely while still maintaining the overall landscaping to look continuous without the pond. Additionally, I wanted my fence to be reinforced and repainted. What sounds and looks like a relatively simple task was actually quite hard. They had to demo the concrete while saving the pieces so they could re-use it later. The floor tiles had to be matched as close as possible. Ultimately, his team worked really hard over 3 days and did a great job. It would never be perfect, but they did a great job maintaining the look so that it wouldn't be noticeable unless you were paying attention. Good experience!
