Edinburgh was built as a course to hold tournaments. It is in great shape. They've added a lot of new grassy areas that really add to the beauty of the course. There are a lot of super golf holes here. Not a blind shot on the course and a lot of risk and reward holes. There are some driveable par 4s. The greens are immaculate and fast with a lot of tiers. Some of the pin placements are extremely challenging for the average golfer. The downside to all this is the pace of play. You can expect to spend 5 hours here. Busy day, took awhile to get carts, course was slow, ranger came to tell us we were not up to course pace (your course is slow - everyone is on the same pace, this is your course and your mismanagement) on the eighth hole- Ranger follows us watching every shot on hole 9 (I had a bogey) I asked him if we were improving in his opinion and he shrugged his shoulders like he did not know the answer to my question. Ok Golf pro tells us on 10 to catch up with the group ahead of us, that's great but two of our colleagues are inside getting food. We're getting scolded while we're giving them food business and we were just given this instruction three minutes prior. Redundancy isn't professional- I don't understand this smug approach towards running a business. We all enjoyed the course except for some of the staff. I won't ever come back here- I'd rather hang out with my ex wife than to tolerate passive aggressive behavior from a staff about pace of play. Obnoxious I golf 30 rounds a summer- have never experienced being spoken to like this. Sorry to be average golfers that shoot in the 90's? Poor business model since we had twelve golfers in our party. read more

Fun playing best ball golf with my husband and friends. Great place to sit and talk with the members at the course and friends. Love the bingo. They have once a month when they do have it. The course was in good shape in early Oct. We were the first and only tee time before a tournament. Despite running slightly later than the suggested turn time, no one was waiting on us. We were a group of 3 women and one man and it felt a bit like we were getting singled out for being mostly women. That said, only the starter was making comments to us, otherwise it was a wonderful experience. We stayed for lunch and it was great. Our server was excellent. Food was very good. I tried the butternut squash soup and it was perfect for a light fall lunch. I've been here many times for fund raisers and they are always so well done. This was the first time I golfed here and I really liked the course. I have to admit, after hitting my ball in the water on the signature 17th hole, I drove my call in my cart to the other side. I'm not sure that I would have reserved a tee time here if I had read the reviews beforehand, so hopefully this more recent review will better reflect the course and facilities. My wife, cousin and son-in-law went out on a sunny, breezy weekday afternoon. I was itching to play a new course, and the Edinburgh layout looked pretty interesting. We arrived a bit early and caught a filling lunch in the bar beforehand. The bartender was very pleasant and helpful, with a sage bit of advice to layup one -- if not twice -- on Edinburgh's iconic Par 4 17th. We rented carts as my knees are no longer up to walking 18. I was a bit put-out that the pitching area required ball rental, but we had limited time to warm-up regardless. The starter pleasantly and efficiently helped us get off, but I do not recall seeing a ranger while out on the course. The first hole is a short Par 5 to a slightly raised green, but into the stiff breeze it was a tough starting test. We got off a bit slowly, but after that we picked up the pace, keeping up to a threesome ahead of us while pressured a bit by two singles behind us. The greens were quite receptive given the hard stuff I'm used to playing, and speed was decent although not fast. Once I figured out the speed a bit I started racking up good scores, especially for a new course. The holes tighten up a bit on the Back 9, with trees narrowing the driving area and slowing things down a bit for some groups. We let the singles play through before catching up to the threesome again from 14 on, who were delayed by a foursome ahead of them. We were able to get around in 4:15 in any case, despite my fiasco on #17. The sun was setting, reflecting off the water into my eyes on my tee shot. I topped my drive *twice*, then put my approach (stroke 7) into the large stretch of water between the island landing area and green. The drop area is behind and well above the green, but a good chip and putt put a nice fat 10 on the card, which kind of ruined my round, but I'll play it better the next time! Despite the dated reviews, I would suggest you try the course out, especially if you can get a good rate and can go during the week. read more

Played a round of golf here for the first time in 20 years. The course is in amazing shape and the greens are fast and undulating. We played the front nine in the rain so the rough was difficult to play out of. The staff was great. The pro shop was helpful and the starter was super friendly. I would have given the course a 5 star but the fact that the putting green didn't have real cups is always kind of "cheap". If the course wants to be championship caliber then I think they should include all facets of the game from warm up to finish. I will definitely be playing here again read more

Just had a very good Thanksgiving dinner at this restaurant today. Its our second year eating our holiday meal here. The variety of food is good and tasty as well, but was very disappointed to see there were no dairy free desserts avail again this year, for those of us unable to eat foods made with dairy products. There were some dairy free foods on the buffet table, but no desserts. Hopefully, we"ll see this change next year as dessert is a big part of a holiday meal! read more

Played while passing through town on a family trip. WOW are the people of the MSP metro lucky to have a municipal course like this! Fantastic design. It was booked solid on a Friday, but we couldn't get over how well the course was maintained. I think it hosted an LPGA event for many years in the 90's, so the challenge it legit. Very walkable golf course. Bunkers were extraordinarily deep, which really made for some tough holes if your drive found one. Nice variety of holes with the right amount of risk/reward. Contours and speed of the greens were very severe. Practice facility and clubhouse are also stunning! Only downside might be that it's too challenging to be your regular golf course. It's also the type of place where you might expect GPS on the carts, which they didn't have.....but most serious players have gadgets these days. I'm perplexed as to how this is not rated 5 stars. read more

We hosted our wedding reception here- the space was beautiful and our guests were really impressed. The staff on duty for the event did a great job and food was a success. Lancer catering cupcakes are AMAZING! The only super negative thing is that a purse that was left behind was stolen after all our guests left (assuming by someone from their staff) and very little was done to remedy the situation. read more

Nice course, but the pins were where I'd imagine they'd be on Sunday at the masters. Teeing off at 7am on a Saturday shouldn't result in a 5 hour round, but when you have to wait on 10 for 4 groups to tee off the back it is obvious they stuff the course. Rational from the ranger, "just because you got here first doesn't mean you should finish first...". Truly probably will never go back. read more

This review is long overdue. We played at 10am on Thursday, August 27th. As you'd expect the course was pretty dead on a Thursday at 10am. We were the only people in the clubhouse when we checked in. Whoever was working the desk that day really needs to work on his people skills. We walked up and he said nothing, i said good morning and he still said nothing. We then had an awkward stare down as i wasn't going to do anymore. Finally i get this out of him "Tee time?". That's it. It's all the words he could muster up to say. He took our credit cards, ran our payments, put the receipts out for us to sign, etc, all while not saying another word. We just assumed the transaction was over when he was again giving us the blank stare, so we walked out. We then tried to redeem our free breakfast voucher at the bar. Bartender lady was not much friendlier than the doofus in the pro shop. Screw that. I play golf to have a great time. These guys rubbed us the wrong way and there are too many nice courses around(with fantastic customer service) to deal with it. It was kind of a joke. The course itself was in decent enough shape, but overall not worth coming back. read more

This was my 'go to' course for the 18 years I lived in Maple Grove. Challenging & fun it is a 'players course'. You have to think about your shot before just swinging out of your shoes. Well placed bunkers, fairway bends and water features make it a real joy to play. The club house is that wonderful combination of amazing and dangerous; a pub comfortable enough to spend all day in (which I have) and a pro-shop that where you can happily empty your bank account into (also guilty of). Clearly the golf course superintendent doesn't like it when golfers have the audacity to play his course. The staff were indifferent at best. The course is over-priced. The flag positions guaranteed that you will enjoy your round of golf as little as possible. The drink machines were out of almost everything. The cart girl drove past me twice without asking if I wanted anything. Overall, the course is in immaculate shape and they clearly want to keep it that way by driving people away. read more

Edinburgh golf course is in the worst condition I have ever seen. We were told over the phone that there are two temporary greens and a few fairways roped off, which is an extreme understatement. The temporary greens are frisbee sized holes cut in the middle of the fairway. The sprinklers were going off for the first several holes (at 4:30pm). Most of the bunkers and green side rough have been replaced by tractors and unplayable black dirt. One of the par threes has a large greenside chemical bunker that you must leave your ball in if hit there. One of the par fives has been converted to a par three, which makes for three consecutive par threes. Really, it felt like we were playing on a construction site for the entire round. I wouldn't have played there for free if they offered; it's embarrassing that they are allowing people on the course at all. read more

For years now I have spent time and money playing Edinburgh golf course in BP, MN. I absolutely love the course.....however, the rangers and customer service at the course have always been suspect. I always have been rubbed the wrong way by many of the rangers and some have been abnoxious. Well, on Friday July 13th, my brother and I invited two friends from out of town to play the course at 7:45am. We got there and they hurried us to tee off because they had a big tournament starting at 1pm. I was a little annoyed, but tried to get going and play. After nine holes we were 5 minutes behind pace of play.....in other words we were playing at a good pace.....not slow or anything. At the turn, the obnoxious starter said we must be back by 12:30pm.....so I immediately gave him the advice that maybe you shouldn't have booked tee times that morning? Two holes later is where I lost it. After number 11 a ranger was watching us....we talked with him and he told us to hurry up and yelled to us to "lets go." His name was Myron and I gave him an earful about learning what customer service is, poor planning by the course and rudeness. He didn't seem to understand that we paid them to play and not the other way around. After about a 5-10 minute argument....we continued playing....although I am not sure how. We finished our round right at 12:13pm.....little less than 4.5 hrs which is totally acceptable at any golf course. For anyone looking to play golf at Edinburgh I would think again. The arrogance, poor customer service and rudeness of their staff is not worth it. Our group will never play there again and we want to make sure others know about our experience. read more
