I just love how they dressed up their spam musubi and the line was not as long compared to the other vendors. I highly recommend all of the little shops with the li hing candies, Hawaiian snacks and outfits! It's just fun to explore and watch all of the amazing dancers!

Persons from Guam and Samoa were well represented here! The main stage features entertainment every thirty minutes. I came here to see my six year old niece do some hula; however, they had cultural exhibitions for the entire weekend! Also cool are the cultural merch and food that you can get here. I was able to get a really solid 3 meat sampling of Chamorro (Guamanian) food for $25, which came with a red rice, 3 meats, and creamy greens. Lines could be pretty long for food and it can get pretty hot at the park; however, we had a good time as we were here in the morning before the sun brought down its wrath on the crowds. We parked for free at the Sun Runner Parking lot off Sea World Parkway, and they had shuttles that took you to the event from the lot for $2 per person. If you are coming to this event, then I think this is a great way to get to the event. The event is running through the end of this weekend. I primarily come to support family that participates; however, we did find some good food and Pacific Islander vendors, so it was a good time overall!

It was a perfect day at Pacific Beach and we braved the heat to take part with our fellow samba dancers. The crowd was friendly and supportive. While the streets were lined with fans, my mom and daughter were able to watch me from the front row and even follow our contingent for some photos. I also enjoyed the performances on stage. It was a good mix of singers and dancers. I was disappointed that the tiny kids' area was expensive. $5 per bouncer. We decided to pass. I had booked a hotel within walking distance because parking is at a premium in this area. Try paying for parking in the CVS lot.

Yes, the aromas from many of the food vendors surround the event were wonderful, but in my opinion, the best part of the festival was all the entertainment in the form of music and dance. I will admit, I spent the majority of my day watching the entertainment and dancing along with all the great dancers and lively music (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/brazilian-day-festival-san-diego-2?select=ZY4mbLBmgGRmQ2DgH7JM4Q#-a0xDqp8iqrny9wsN-yP0g). The performers were all amazing and with their exotic rhythms perfectly timed to the beat, drew in the crowds either in the form of a trance or got their bodies moving (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/brazilian-day-festival-san-diego-2?select=ZY4mbLBmgGRmQ2DgH7JM4Q#l9SKl6RQD8kCdY7kheZ4Ug). The best were not doubt the Samba dancer who brought loud cheers from the crowds (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/brazilian-day-festival-san-diego-2?select=ZY4mbLBmgGRmQ2DgH7JM4Q#nY6YlCIlNmYwpUNab3v13A). However, my favorite were the dancer from U Fancy Dance Studio from here in San Diego with their cross Brazilian samba and cowboy dance which was amazing (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/brazilian-day-festival-san-diego-2?select=ZY4mbLBmgGRmQ2DgH7JM4Q#Vsjt_3KAVn1_7r7FT7kzSA)! As I said early, there plenty of food vendors, and specifically many Brazilian vendors with their native and cross over cuisine (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/brazilian-day-festival-san-diego-2?select=ZY4mbLBmgGRmQ2DgH7JM4Q#hvuOhN7KzEkh1ew4XxRXbg). My favorite drink of the day was the Horchata with just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar to make it a enjoyable yet refreshing drink (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/brazilian-day-festival-san-diego-2?select=ZY4mbLBmgGRmQ2DgH7JM4Q#FapW32tuj24IZFeR3_sPfQ). All in all a day filled with dancing, music, great eats and drinks, and beautiful people everywhere. I had a great time and I will no doubt be returning next year. Performers- Berhana, Peach Tree Rascals, UMI, Keshi, and Iann Dior- all put on a great show and everyone had an amazing time. However, lines for food and any activity outside of the music were sooooo long. I spent the whole Peach Tree Rascals set in line for the taco truck. Spent all of Keshi's set in line for a carnival ride. I know that ASCE does their best and put a lot of work in, but more food places and more activities will help spread out the lines more. Even adding longer breaks between sets (there was only about 20 minutes between artists), would allow people to explore more of the festival without sacrificing watching the performances. I had a lot of fun, can't wait for next year!

I am writing this from home, after a few brutal hours of feeling like a prisoner at UCSD (this time, in the non-academic sense). With the beefed up security (SDPD, security guards .. mall cops?) the school feels like it's on lockdown. Watch out if you're driving - there's a cop hiding. Watch out if you're drinking - there's a cop hiding. Watch out if you're scantily dressed - there's a perv staring. Sun God is split between 2 stages, the "Sun God Stage" and the "Dance Stage" - if you have no idea who is who, chances are neither do the performers. This year our up and coming artists playing are: Joey Bada$$, Young the Giant, Diplo, Juicy J, and .. that's pretty much all I know. Ok, I'm going to hydrate and enjoy my 2nd (and last) Sun God. Jerry has honestly been one of my favorite servers for years. He's been at Beaumont's for over 10 years, and he's always one of those familiar smiling faces you're happy to see when you walk in. He's friendly, attentive, hardworking, and just genuinely great with people. Mike is also amazing and always makes the bar experience fun. His knowledge of tequila is seriously impressive, and you can tell he really enjoys sharing recommendations and helping people find something they'll love. Whether you know tequila well or are trying something new, he always makes it approachable and enjoyable. The whole team at Beaumont's is wonderful, but Jerry and Mike are definitely highlights. He shouted out the total for two wristbands and I let him know there was a different price online. He shouted out to purchase the wristbands online for that price. I walked away purchased the wristbands went back to pick up the physical wristbands. He scanned the barcode and put the wristbands on our wrist. And then with a smile said the list of rides that were closed. And then said " we are short staffed and due to that we do not have employees at the rides once they get here at 12:30 then you'll be able to get on the rides" I looked at my 10-year-old and said OK we'll go walk the beach and get a bite to eat until they open up. Guess what the staff never got there! Honestly, he thought it was funny when he told me that we weren't going to be able to get on rides until the other staff got there. There were a few rides like the mini dipper and the carousel. But who buys wristbands to get on a couple rides and then get on the bumper cart. If that's the case then I would've just bought individual tickets. LET YOUR GUEST KNOW AHEAD OF TIME IF YOU ARE SHORT STAFFED AND THE PARK WILL NOT BE RUNNING AS USUAL!! I had to keep looking for staff to let us on rides and then even then I wasn't able to get on every ride. I paid for a wrist band for myself and my daughter thinking that we were going to be able to enjoy the day but we were not. I do want to point out that I'm a single mom and low income and this was supposed to be something amazing for us. $100 to Belmont Park is absolutely nothing but for me it is. And just FYI, I a lot of people kept leaving the park upset. But for them, they didn't purchase wristbands. We waited till after 5 PM hoping that as the shift changed employees would come and open up all of the rides, but that never happened. I was hoping to get my money back for the wristband, but because the employee at the counter was so aggressive I was honestly afraid to go up and ask for a refund. I'm hoping Belmont Park will make this right and provide my daughter and I with an opportunity to return to Belmont Park at no charge to us and be able to get on the rides.

I was at an Art & Wine Festival in Lafayette and was blown away by his photographs. I had never seen anything like them before in my life. Years later, I move back to San Diego and am ecstatic to find out that he has a gallery in La Jolla. I have been to a few of his unveiling events which have been so much fun. Seeing a gorgeous new photograph, exploring his gallery, enjoying live music, talking with Ian and his art consultants is a genuine pleasure. I currently have two of his photographs in my home, Archean Arc and Salutation. I also purchase his beautiful calendar every year and give them out as Christmas gifts, while also keeping one for my household. I have his coffee table book as well and have given that out as gifts too. His artwork is so stunning, the first time I saw Homage I was speechless at how beautiful it is. I was in a Cardiologists office last month and was taken aback (in an awesome way) by the huge framed Resurrection photograph they had on their wall. I was like "hey I know who that photographer is!" It was such a cool surprise. His gallery is a must see in La Jolla. His art consultants are so professional and so knowledgeable about each photograph. I love hearing about the back story to each piece. I will continue to recommend this gallery to all and proudly display his work in my home.
