International videographers compete to submit short films for the contest. There is no entry fee, and one requirement is that it has to be filmed 50% underwater. Some of the amazing films are narrated, and include a story or theme, while some are simply set to a score. The filmmakers are sometimes there to give you the background on the project. It's amazing to see how such inspiring short pieces can result when given the same parameters. This year they offered an award for the audience favorite. There is always two nights of the festival, and different films are shown each night. I can't wait to go again!

In addition to various food vendors and merchants, they also have a food tour where you can sample some of the items at the festival for an additional fee. Our food tour had 15 people attend. But back to the review, please take time to go on the first week of May! There was around 500 vendors, I might be wrong but it was about six blocks full of fun things to be found. They do need some more things for men but then again, women are more in to shopping as a collective. If you love jewelry, small business finds, and food, it's definitely something I will be coming back for. I can't wait to go next year and replenish my earring collection. Recently started to collect them! We also had the most amazing freakin cake!!!! OMGAH!!!! I promise, if you like a cake that isn't dry, even a coffee cake that isn't dry, this company is worth ordering from! I am going to be ordering some yummy gifts for people in the future. It's called Dolce Monachelli's they do have a website and it's the best Bundt cake you will ever have. They have a cute sampler you can always get as a gift bc I will be gifting with these cakes! Fortunately we were able to park immediately a couple minutes away from the fair. They had so many venders, we got raw cinnamon honey and hot sauces! This dynamic is welcomed to most people because they get to socialize and buy more then just fresh fruits and veggies. The only thing I am critical about is the organization of the booth space that allows the flow of people in better safety and comfort. I assume there was some store front push back that wanted 100% of there sidewalk available and clear surfing the market but what that has done has jammed too many people in what is obviously a "narrow space" to walk. It would be a fair and SAFE compromise to use 50% of the sidewalks on each side and adjust back the venders booths giving people 5 feet more in the middle to walk around. It would be easier to do this rather then assume or ask people to not stand around creating bottlenecks or be considerate of others and move like a car on a road. Expect to drive around for parking if you are not local enough to walk to the event and crowding due to the popular area it is in, live music, fresh foods and drinks as well as plenty of unique crafts and clothing.

The Asian Pacific Cultural Festival of San Diego is the LARGEST celebration of Asian Pacific American Cultures in San Diego and features cultural and traditional performances from a dozen countries and cultures, including Japan, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Myanmar, Indonesia, Hawaii, Cambodia, Thailand, Taiwan, Polynesia, and more! This event has been recognized by the US Congress, the California State Assembly, the County of San Diego, and the City of San Diego as an official event in San Diego celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Eager to indulge my passion for culinary delights, my first stop led you to Thai Food Station 8, where I discovered the ultimate indulgence: a sublime mango smoothie that surpassed all expectations. For lunch, I ventured into more adventurous territory with a tantalizing dish of eel. After lunch, I checked out the vendors, they offer from handmade crafts to unique souvenirs. I want to supporting local artisans and taking home a piece of the festival experience with me. I ended up bought a few items from Blanc Byrd, a local artist. I took a few pictures in front of the San Diego Police Department booth. I would definitely return next year.

I enjoyed walking around seeing all the arts, sculptures, and colorful surroundings; checking out Silent Auction; sampling Tuna/Salmon tacos; listening to different genre of music etc, so much to see! Upon arrival, the Lion and Dragon dance had just started so we got to see the full performance. As a kid, I was always fond of seeing these performances, so I was smiling ear to ear! The event was very fun and festive, with lots of food vendors and merchants selling all kinds of stuff. I didn't have a hat on me and it was sunny, so I ended up with a pretty parasol to shield me from the beating sun. Next year, I'll definitely want to come dressed in my Vietnamese dress to take pictures with all the beautiful props. All in all, we had a great time and will be back next year!

Every year this is such a highlight--a burst of sunshine, art, and incredible energy on the UCSD campus. The performances are open-minded, avant-garde, playful, and often surprising in the best way, from interactive installations to acrobatics and performance art that pull you in and remind you creativity is something to participate in, not just watch. There's something rare and joyful about a festival that makes people feel more curious, more alive, more connected. WOW feels like a celebration of why art matters at all--it makes life more beautiful, expansive, and enjoyable. And the fact that it's free and public makes it even more special. in a world where so much feels commercialized, this feels like a genuine gift--a bright, generous space where artists and audiences get to meet in wonder. We left inspired and very grateful this exists. It's also pretty well organized. Some events require tickets, but they are free or under $30. The key is to keep an eye out in feb when they open the website and reserve early as every event is almost always sold out, esp the weekend ones. An amazing performance festival at UCSD!…read more We feel fortunate to have finally discovered this festival this year. Spanning four days this year at the UCSD campus, this festival was a surprise hit for the family - enough so that we came for 3 days with a 4 and 7 year old in tow. We found it hard to tell what to expect from each show (very limited description) but learned to embrace the random unknown quality of it all and had such a great time (especially given that the vast majority we went to were free). What a lovely way to spend time outside and loved the huge amount of parcipitory, interactive performances. Highlights included jam side up (modern day clowns), Suzik (angsty Korean dance acrobatics), and Again! Again! (Participatory theater). Definitely recommend. Gilman parking was also very easy on weekend and after 5pm (visitor and B spots)

I just love how they dressed up their spam musubi and the line was not as long compared to the other vendors. The Pacific Island Festival Association (PIFA) event has been going on for 31 years in Mission Bay…read morein SD in September. They celebrate all of the Pacific Island Cultures. Persons from Guam and Samoa were well represented here! The main stage features entertainment every thirty minutes. I came here to see my six year old niece do some hula; however, they had cultural exhibitions for the entire weekend! Also cool are the cultural merch and food that you can get here. I was able to get a really solid 3 meat sampling of Chamorro (Guamanian) food for $25, which came with a red rice, 3 meats, and creamy greens. Lines could be pretty long for food and it can get pretty hot at the park; however, we had a good time as we were here in the morning before the sun brought down its wrath on the crowds. We parked for free at the Sun Runner Parking lot off Sea World Parkway, and they had shuttles that took you to the event from the lot for $2 per person. If you are coming to this event, then I think this is a great way to get to the event. The event is running through the end of this weekend. I primarily come to support family that participates; however, we did find some good food and Pacific Islander vendors, so it was a good time overall!
