Myself and a friend who likes to think he is a lot funnier than he actually is (we all know one of those) went in the other day for a meal and were pretty impressed from the moment we walked into the venue. The place is immaculate.....like SO fresh! It's clean, smells like IKEA flatpack and has a really polished finish....I especially like the little courtyard as you walk into the venue....drinks out there on a sunny evening....lovely! We were walked upstairs by the manager after checking our reservation and taken to a table. The resturant is vast with many small rooms giving a cozy feel. We went into an upstairs room with large glass windows overlooking the canal and were sat down.....slight gripe....the restaurant was pretty quiet where we were and we were sat right next to another woman that was eating alone even though there were other tables which would have allowed a little more space/room to chat about mildly inappropriate topics....haha....not a huge ine really just felt a little weird as there were other tables available. We both had the pre theatre menu which is pretty extensive and has a lot of good options. We both had the rabbit pate to start....it was good but don't think I would go for it again.....then I had the pork medallions for my main. The pork was beautifully cooked with a side of dauphinoise and seasonal veg. All amazing I must say...big shouts to the sauce on the whole plate which was rich and full of flavour. The other slight gripe I have is the slightly over attentive service while you are in the venue but im putting that down to everyone there being so keen to impress. I think you can let people relax a little....what you are doing is really good :) 5* will be back....100% try this place out ASAP.

I can honestly say I'm honoured to have visited here with another fellow yelper. I must admit I've never been a big enthusiast of French cuisine, purely because my knowledge in wines accompanying a meal is zero to none. However! This restaurant has opened my eyes once again to European because the food was fantastic and to top that, what makes the difference is the customer service making me and my friend feel like home in this wonderful feeling overlooking the canal. My meal consisted of the pre theatre menu with pork medallions and the chocolate torte dessert. The Pork Medallions was glazed with honey and mustard and layed with some sausage, mustard and pepper sauce with caramelised Apple. Such a combo makes a great mixture that your tastebuds just simply can't resist. The chocolate torte I thought was quite rich (not a massive chocolate fan so bear with me!) however, this was neutralised by the amazing black current ice cream produced from the restaurant chain itself. For an amazing price of £15 pp I can honestly say I feel like I robbed the restaurant for their hospitality. You have made me a very happy yelper Serena and I hope my tipped reached you. Would visit again

Absolutely beautiful restaurant and fantastic large outdoor dining area which is great on a nice sunny day dining by the canal. The food is always at a high standards and having eaten there several times now I can say I've eaten a lot from the main menu and have never had any problems whatsoever. The staff are attentive, polite and even spark into some friendly conversation which is nice. They have a reasonable lunch time offer for 2 course or three course meals. They also offer pre-theatre menus too. Can't fault the place.

You will find greenery running all upside the walls as well as a fantastic view of the canal. In the evening the ambience inside is also great. Reservations are available but you can usually get in without too much of a wait time. On this occasion I ordered a spinach and mushroom crepe which was fantastic! It's probably my favourite vegetarian dish that they do. It's a sensible portion that leaves you satisfied. For dessert I ordered the praline crepe which was again fantastic. You generally find with dessert crepes that they can do no bad no matter where your buying it from. Cotes crepes are above standard in terms of quality with a light pancake and not overly sweet praline feeling. For me in particular this restaurant shines in the summer. The cocktails are great and the dining experience is unique.

She seated us without our full party present. We were able to get a look at the menu b4 the rest of our party arrived. Our head waiter or manager and server were attentive and accommodating. For apps we had half a dozen oysters, chicken skewers, and duck rolls. Drinks were the Porn star martini (my new fave), a Bellini and margaritas. All delicious. For entrees, we had the crispy duck served with rice & mash, and the sirloin. All very very good. Love is!

Whilst the restaurant is on the more pricier side, the service and trendy atmosphere more than makes up for it. The 23 year old blond hostess was charming and seeing the balloons my friend had gotten me, was quick to congratulate me and start up a conversation on our plans for the evening and what she may recommend. Once we were seated, the waiter came round numerous times to make sure we were doing alright and then we had sufficient drinks and food throughout the night. The food was pretty good, but what really made the restaurant stand out were the drinks. The cocktails they've got are simply delicious. The complimentary chocolate truffles for dessert was just another addition to the remarkable service I received throughout the evening. My only criticism was that despite having joined their loyalty club earlier in the week, after being tempted by triple points on your birthday and a 'welcome gift' online; at the restaurant, the £20 welcome voucher which was supposedly pre-loaded on my card and needs redeeming within 25 days of receiving it could not be used as it needed another 20 hours to be activated. Whilst it was great to receive triple points, its not a restaurant I would go unless there's an occasion to celebrate and with the £20 expring in a few weeks, it was quite the let down that I was unable to use it.

A friend and I popped in for lunch earlier today as we had a voucher sent to us for a cheeky 40% discount on main meals. Having a look over the menu I quickly picked out the goats cheese and beetroot salad while my vegetarian friend went for the camembert baguette served with fries. She did mention that there was a slight lack of vegetarian options on the menu so this could be a bad restaurant choice for those avoiding meat. The food we had came quickly and was very nicely presented. Everything tasted great and our waiter was accommodating and chatty. When we got the bill our discount had not been taken off, we questioned the total and it was quickly adjusted. At a little under £10 each for lunch with a drink .... how can you complain at that. I don't think I will be rushing back here without a discount code or voucher, but overall a good lunch.

After already having two successful restaurants in Manchester, I was very excited about visiting Bistro 1847 after hearing only good things about it. Set in the beautiful Great Western Arcade, I thought it was strange to open a restaurant here. Especially after 6pm it is the only place open usually! But the atmosphere of the restaurant complements the peacefulness of the arcade. The interior of the Bistro is minimalistic and modern. Being someone who is allergic to Dairy and Wheat intolerant (I know!), Bistro 1847 is one of few places I don't feel weird at. The whole menu is Vegetarian, with dishes that can be adjusted to vegan or gluten free or both in my view. My and my friend were feeling fat so we both went for three courses. I had the curried Swede Cauliflower, Cashew nut butter and cinnamon cornflakes. So many flavours going on in a small parcel was a great choice. For the main I had "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside" (all dishes have these quirky little names!) which is a modern Veggie twist on fish and chips in case you hadn't guessed! I had the vegan version which had two huge pieces of smoked tofu which I really struggled to finish along with the chunky chips! I wasn't defeated and enjoyed all parts of the meal. For desert I had the "Good ol fashioned lover boy" I enjoyed it although I thought maybe the chocolate was a bit over powering as was so much going on. But the jelly was a nice compliment to the richness. The menu contains a large selection of cocktails and deserts for sharing if you and your friends are in search of lots of sweetness. This was my third visit on a Sunday since opening and has been progressively busier each time which is great to see. Bistro 1847 is a very relaxing experience and ideal place for a date or a catch up with a friend. And of course the food is amazing!

There's a large window looking on to the arcade, which is great for watching people come and go. The food was fantastic. It's a fixed price menu, at £19 for two courses, and £25 for three. There's also a pricier tasting menu - the couple sitting next to me had chosen that option, and were really enjoying it. To start, I had the puy lentils, with roasted carrot, spring onions and garlic tofu. The tofu was done as a silky sauce - I'd never had tofu prepared in that way, and I thought it was really delicious. For main course, I chose the bell pepper ragu, with polenta. Again this was superb, with the polenta served as crisp little triangles on top. Both my courses were gluten free, as well as vegan, and their menu is very clear to understand. It feels like the sort of place you can completely trust to get things right. Service was quick and friendly, and there was a nice atmosphere, with other diners just quietly enjoying their meals just as much as I was. I'll definitely be back here next time in Birmingham, and I'll look out for their restaurants in other cities too.
