My navigation system didn't know exactly where it was, but I found it anyway. This is a tiny place with no where to sit (the 2 seats inside were reserved for ?a catering customer?. Note that there is also no restroom. The donuts were $3 each or 4 for $10. We had 1 Carmel, 1 vanilla, and 1 coconut. All 3 of these were yellow cake. We also had a marble - marble cake with white icing. While I like yellow cake, I've become accustomed to cupcakes that have extra flavor added to the batter - for instance, coconut flavor added to the cake of the coconut cupcake. These didn't have that, so the cake was just plain yellow (or marble). That is, the flavor was just in the icing. They had a few other baked items (cookies, etc) but we didn't sample those. The carmel was a bit too sweet. The vanilla and coconut were good. The marble was my favorite. read more

Ed's Country Bakery - Donut selection - Bakeries Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

Don't know why this isn't on Yelp yet, since it has been open since 2010. but it's a small bakery, set out in the country on Cap Stine Road, west of Frederick, and has limited hours on Saturday. It is associated with a farm and does sell some of its own farm-raised beef and pork, but I went out to see what the bakery is all about. It is small, but had a good selection of donuts and a type of donut called a kinkling, cookies, cupcakes, pies, cakes, and bread. We got a 1/2 dozen assorted donuts and some cookies. The donuts were quite good, more in a German-style in that they aren't as sweet as donuts one might be useful. They are all yeast-risen instead of cake donuts, which is fine by me. They had a good, small bakery taste, rather than the mass-produced taste of a Dunkin Donuts or a Krispy Creme. Suffice to say, they are worth the drive we made, despite having a Dunkin only 2 minutes from our house. The cookies we got, sugar cookies with M&Ms and a white icing were good; I would definitely like to try the other selections they have. According to their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Eds-Country-Bakery/122229537813845), they also do wedding cakes, and they mix up the selection of baked goods on a regular basis, partially connected with the holidays. Next time we go back, and we will, I'll make sure to pick up some bacon or pork chops and add those to the review. I'm glad to see a small local bakery with good donuts around. I am a sucker for them and am always on the lookout for non-commercial bakery donuts. This place meets the bill. read more

I am not a cream pie person -- Ed's coconut cream pie changed that. I am not an iced sugar cookie person -- Ed's cookies (spectacularly decorated by Beth) changed that. Ed's Country Bakery is the best place to get all your baked goods. Even though it seems out of the way its easy to get to and well worth the extra drive. The selection every week is fabulous. Cake, cupcakes, donuts, breads, cookies, and many other things to choose from. I don't think I've had anything that wasn't good. The best part is that he always has a nice selection of things so that your sure to find something for everyone. I ordered from Ed's Country Bakery last year for my husband's birthday party. They are very reasonably priced compared to other bakeries, and the quality is great. I am not a fan of the overly sweet, sticky frosting, and prefer my cakes to have less sugar and more flavor. I was very pleased with the cake they made. It was only moderately sweet, moist, light, and very flavorful. They were very accomodating to my special requests, and the product was tasty and beautiful. I wish I knew about this bakery when I got married, I would not have hesitated to order from them for my wedding. The only downside, is that they don't have many options for taste testing. They have only 2 or 3 types of cakes out, and we have to buy the whole slice in order to taste it. It would be nice if they had special, smaller pieces that we could buy for less money. I didn't like having to purchase 3 or 4 full slices of cake, when I only wanted a bite. Other than this, they're excellent and I highly recommend them. read more

I discovered this bakery a few years ago. It is a little out of the way in the countryside near Frederick. Over time it has become my family's absolute favorite for birthday cakes. And this is in a family with a couple of really good bakers. Whether it is a birthday cake, wedding cake, or any other special occasion, you simply cannot go wrong. This is a very late review, but I'm not much of a Yelp writer. :) I came to this bakery for my wedding cake (wedding was June 2014) because Ed's cakes are known to be the most delicious cakes in all the land. Instead of a typical wedding cake, I ordered six 9-inch cakes. The cakes I ordered were as follows: almond with buttercream, white with buttercream, red velvet with Italian buttercream, chocolate with peanut butter, lemon with buttercream, and carrot with cream cheese frosting. As far as I'm concerned, cake is a very important part of a wedding, and I've been disappointed at weddings I've attended (I know that sounds petty. Perhaps I'm a little cake-centric). We got married on a Saturday, so my mother-in-law picked up the cakes in the morning. They were beautiful. They were delicious. Three of them were eaten so fast that I didn't get one crumb (that chocolate and peanut butter was just....obliterated. There is no better word). I suggest Ed's Country Bakery for any occasion where it is important to get the cake right, or if you just want a REALLY good cake. read more
