If this is a non emergency number I do not think the dispatcher should evaluate probable cause and criminality. The officer this morning expressed a smile and concerned of my problem and assured me that this would be the first step and process to file my report. She showed professionalism at all times over the phone and made me feel that my call was as important as any other call, giving me the upmost attention and assurance that the other department would be helpful to my concerns.. Her training and manners as a professional operator showed and for that I am grateful for the great service over the phone. I LIVE IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, but owe property in Chicago. Moved out here 9 years ago. My family thank the men and women of the hard work and dedication as a police officer. We pray that the officers are always protected and safe from harm. The officers have been restrained and thoughtful dealing with the individual, extremely skilled at de-escalating the situations, and have gotten them once into involuntary psychiatric treatment. They have been extremely prompt and responsive when called. Very, very impressed by all the great work. I realize people have bad experiences with CPD but we also need to acknowledge when they provide outstanding services -- and a very difficult job to do.

But the rental car I had…read morewas t-boned by a careless driver a block and a half from my house, and they wouldn't come out since no one was injured so myself and the driver went to the station to file a report. It was quiet on that Sunday morning, which at the very least I was thankful for. It took about 15 minutes to file the report but it took longer than that because it was a shift change and they don't pay attention to you then. At least they have some plants that could keep me calm, less annoyed.

I called the police…read morestation to get help, or ask who is best to call to come out and speak with the gentleman living on our property who we have previously spoken to and asked to move. Instead of helping me the man who answered the phone yelled at me about how I need to "change my way of thinking" and he "doesn't understand what's wrong with people these days who don't want to call the police." I do not understand where this attitude was coming from, but I certainly did not need a lecture, I was just asking very nicely where to direct my call if that number was not the correct one. Maybe people don't call the proper lines because of people like this guy who don't know how to be kind and helpful!

While visiting a friend I experienced a "Trip & Fall" event and decided to document the event by generating a Police Report. I opted to avoid a trip to the Hospital E. R. as I was still ambulatory although somewhat shaken up. I went directly to the 012 District at 1412 S. Blue Island as that was the police district where the incident occurred. A civilian aide addressed me and she generated a report to memorialize the event in case an injury should manifest itself later leading to a medical or legal intervention. I requested a copy of the report but the request was denied. I was provided with instructions on how to obtain a copy of the report by purchasing a copy from Police Headquarters. Huh ? Why do I pay taxes ??? A report could have been printed out for free and presented to me while I was there in person. But no , I am to write out a request equal to the report just generated by the civilian aide and mail it along with a check to Police H. Q. requesting a copy of the report be mailed to my home address. Oh well , so much for the "city that works". Must be one of the reasons l left Chicago. Winter is too cold. Taxes are too high. Violent Crime is out of control.

Yet I did want to pass along something in case it might help people out in the future. I needed to get fingerprinted as part of a job application. I went to the police branch in Lakeview and asked for fingerprinting (which in my experience has always been done at a police station). They promptly directed me here, to the the Headquarters at 35th and Michigan (just about an hour via Red Line) as it was the only station that does fingerprints. When I finally arrived and waited for a half hour, I was finally told that they would not fingerprint me for my purposes. In fact, they only fingerprint people if they have been arrested. I'm not sure why they couldn't have told me that in Lakeview... If you need to get fingerprinted and you have NOT been arrested, there's a great fingerprinting/passport photo business at Clark and Adams in the loop. I recommend that unlike me you go there first.
