This time the shop had moved to a new location. I was staying downtown and was able to hop on the rail and arrive within a reasonable, but m,operate walk from the train stop. It wasn't necessarily an ideal walk front eh train, but definitely manageable. This shop is always packed with cool stuff - in this newer location they have much more space and Heaven more great stuff. New and used, they have lots to look at. I was definitely impressed with the guitar pedals that they keep in stock. Really appreciate the ability to check out some uncommon stuff that I have been interested in potentially adding to my pedal board. The folks here are always friendly and obviously love talking about music equipment as much as I do. Definitly A+ for Flipside Music shop!

It. Was. Not. But Tenorio Werx was very through in explaining the history of the guitar, the various issues with it, some stemming from its hapdash original manufacturing, and explained the process and costs it would take to fix a guitar. He also gave me some ideas on how to recycle it if I was uncomfortable with just throwing it out. If I ever come across another guitar in need of refurbishing, I'd definitely take it here.

By word of mouth, after trying several local repairmen, I got wind of "Shon" at Sound Town. He combed over the amp tooth and nail, and finally solved the problem for me, a problem that turned out to be not so much a broken component (my guess) as operator error, a change-over from an active to passive guitar, and the need for a suitable pre-amp to boost the signal . It took a lot of testing and reading of manuals and schematics, before Sean figured out what was going on. He went so far as to compare my sound-levels with those of other amps in the stores and he was quite patient and thorough in every regard. I made several trips to the store, and became acquainted with three key people there, all of whom were very nice, and I got a feeling for their special niche in the music world, which is the supplying of sound systems and various components, whether for rentals-out or for purchase. They keep a fair supply of guitar needs and are happy to order anything you might want at a fair price. Though Guitar Center and places like Kolacny's and Flesher-Hinton all have their place, I'll always begin by shopping here because of their patience and kindness. It is a special kind of store with special kind of people, and it always feels good to be patronizing a locally owned business of modest proportions. Bravo!

You can bring in your instrument and have them look it over and give you an estimate on the spot - no strings attached. Plus, they guarantee any of their work so if something didn't quite go as you'd like, you bring it back, they fix it. No hemming and hawing. They give you priority and attention. I took my clarinet out of storage after 15 years of not playing. Before that I was fairly aggressively classically trained. But now I have the bright idea of learning to play jazz. Hah! This poor, poor little Polish white girl. Hey. I'm trying. Anyway, after a couple lessons my horn started pissing me off. Doing funny things. And I swore it wasn't my embouchure. I brought it in to Meis. They are swamped over the summers doing band repair for many nearby schools so about a two week turn around time is to be expected. Since they're used to doing high-volume repairs for young kids, you may find that they might skim over the more subtle kinks in your instrument. The best thing to do is to play it for them and have them hear exactly what is bothering you. Seems like there are at least three guys here - one guy definetely specializes in clarinet repair. Reasonably priced with people who will stand behind their work and give you respect. That's surprisingly hard to come by these days. Go check 'em out.

Not only does my violin sound better than it ever has, it's easier to play too. They also did some cosmetic work, and it really does look much nicer. When we went to pick the violin up, we returned our rental and we were greeted with an opportunity to go to a practice room and test it out. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful, and I could really tell that they cared about my satisfaction with the repair. They also gave me great care advice when I asked. I'm so thrilled to have my violin sound so nice and for it to be so well taken care of. For any string instrument repair, I would extremely highly recommend. I am sure their lessons are top notch too, though I haven't experienced for myself.
