Then, in the third quarter of 2023, we received a bill from the Department of Taxation stating that our NY State taxes were not filed. We attempted to contact John by phone, text, and email several times to address this matter. Our communication with John could have been better and more professional. Responses mainly included "I'll look into it" or "I'll get back to you". Finally, six months later, we resolved the matter. John opened an inquiry stating that we did fill in time, and the state dismissed part of the penalty. I still had to pay a small fee. I recommend steering clear of this tax consultant.

As a result, in July 2024 NYS disallowed the credit and placed me in collections. I have since met with you five times in your Jefferson Valley office. Each time you acknowledged the issue, but no corrective action was taken. Because of this, I now owe $490 in tax, penalties, and interest--a liability created solely by your inaction. R&G Brenner's own RGB Shield Accuracy Protection Guarantee states: "If you ever receive a letter from a taxing authority disputing a tax position, we'll help you rectify it. And if you are charged any penalties or interest as a result of an error we made, you're covered up to $2,000." My situation clearly falls within this guarantee: * I hired R&G Brenner for a paid, current-year return. * Your error caused the liability. * The amount owed ($490) is well under the $2,000 coverage. I am demanding that R&G Brenner immediately: 1. Assume responsibility for the $490 liability. 2. Submit a corrected filing to NYS to resolve the matter. 3. Provide written confirmation within 10 business days. If this is not resolved, I will escalate to the NYS Attorney General, Division of Consumer Protection, IRS Office of Professional Responsibility, and Westchester County Consumer Protection, and I am prepared to pursue civil action. We felt like our requests were not being respected and we were pressured to file one way because the preparer didn't want to spend more time figuring out the numbers for both married filing single and married filing separate. He literally sighed and said "thats going to take a loong time" and then proceeded to still not do what we asked, despite us asking multiple times. Spoke with Dan the second time and he was able to check both amounts within MINUTES with a click of a button. Customer service reached out and assured me that my amendment would be taken care of. However, when I went again in April (to a different location) the way that the first preparer did our taxes, it was NOT able to be amended. This mistake will cost me an extra $6,000 next year, which we cannot afford, on top of the $365 I paid to get my taxes done incorrectly (which I requested to have refunded due to HIS mistake and was denied), AND we got back $4-500 less than we would've gotten if he had done what I asked. I do not recommend getting your taxes done here. My husband could have done our taxes himself on TurboTax for 1/3 of the price, and saved $6k.

I've been going to this place for the past few years but never again! I walked in at 12:45 and the office was empty and told them my brother and I were there and was told someone will be with you in a moment. Just then a couple walked in and said to the same person that their appointment was for 2pm right in front of me but wanted to change it for an earlier time since their there now. She went to check and came back out after checking and escorted them to Don which was my scheduled 1:pm preparer. Then she went back and told him I was waiting when I questioned her about this and he had the wrong customer at his desk. His reply was well that I didn't have a 1pm appointment and I can take the 2pm slot like I was lying! At hearing him say that I said out loud Check your schedule I have the 1:pm slot! Another preparer came out and asked if it would be alright for her to do my taxes, sure why not. Right! WRONG! As we sat at her desk and was getting my tax statements ready she starts answering the phone asking me to wait. Now can H&R explain to me how a tax preparer is suppose to concentrate on my taxes and answer the phones at the same time? I was more then alittle annoyed by now and told her forget it I'll make another appointment. Then sat and waited for my brothers taxes to be finished to drive him home. She came back three times and asked if I was sure. First time I told her I'll make another appointment, second time I told her now I'm going to find another tax office H&R isn't the only tax preparering office because I already said I was going to make another appointment, third time she came out and asked me I told her look I told you twice already now get away from me and drop it. Now I can hear Don asking the couple which Don slid into my scheduled slot if they can wait and let him do mine first, mind you he was already half into their taxes. Can H&R Block explain to me how is a preparer going to stop doing someone's taxes when he's already 15/20 minutes into doing them and do mine! I said out loud forget it I'm going to make an appointment with another company! They had me so annoyed by now that I called H&R Block's customer care dept right there and explained what happened and they took a report and gave me a case number. When my brothers taxes were done he came out and told me the woman who was doing his taxes was listening the whole time and kept telling him that Don and the other woman were wrong and from the beginning Don should have corrected himself and have done my taxes first since the couples original appointment was for 2pm and mine was for 1pm. So it was like taking a walk-in over a scheduled appointment. This is the worst H&R Block Office when it comes to customers and how their treated! In my opinion the tax preparers in this particular office are not professional at all and I will check back with H&R Block in a week with my case number to see how this matter was handled if I don't hear back from them as they promised.
