If I had to describe the performance of Edward Scissorhands in one word it would be "magical". It showcases the best combination of staging, lighting, creativity and expression that I have ever seen. In fact I keep thinking how it is such a real shame that this spectacle is only scheduled to be on show till 11th Jan 2015.
The highlights for me have to be the stage and the dancing, both of which I will not be able to do justice with words alone and I implore you to go see them to truly appreciate the effort that has been put into them. The stage uses such a unique variety of screens, lighting, mirrors and mist that it is truly incredible (the best I have ever seen and I have seen over 20 theatre productions!) Now the dancing (a combination of ballet and contemporary) is emphatic, effortless and transcendent. The transitions and movement amongst all the cast members is nothing short of breathtaking. Can you imagine how difficult lifting a human being in a smooth motion in time with music can be? Well then imagine how difficult it is to do it over and over again without the use of hands?! - Cos of course Edward Scissorhands has scissors in place of hands.
The live music is also impressive and well composed to complement the emotion portrayed in the show. I would have preferred lyrics and more variation within the sections of music but this should not take away from the fact that what is on show is nothing short of a well crafted masterpiece. Just as how Edward is given life in the most surprising fashion, this tale is given energy, heart and comedy in more ways than I could have imagined. read more
