Wow! What an awesome standard of care! Dr Seade & staff definitely set the bar high for orthopedic services! I went in for a consultation on my shoulder. After a short wait, I was ushered into a nice exam room where my history was taken. Then I met Regan the PA. She went over everything, and escorted me to Helen the x-ray tech for pictures. My left arm was in constant pain, I had it repaired 3 times years ago, I decided I needed to find the BEST shoulder guy in Austin TX, and I did. I had a total reverse shoulder replacement on March 14th, I have never felt as good one month after surgery as I feel now, I feel fantastic and will start therapy this week but I have already regained quite a bit of motion and I have zero pain. This recovery from the replacement has been so much easier than the recovery from a tear, it's been a much easier recovery than I expected. Dr. Seade is in my opinion the BEST! I was seeing another doctor about my shoulder pain. Doing PT, did cortisone shots. Nothing was working to alleviate pain and get range of motion back, other than ice packs. Got the name of Ed Seade, he had me diagnosed in three movements, gave me a cortisone shot that was horrible, but clearly was in the intended location within the shoulder. I was a little apprehensive before surgery because my son had right shoulder surgery and still to this day he is having pain and loss of ability to do physical activity such as playing basketball with his son. I had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Seade and to watch as he and his team did an incredible job of rebuilding my wife's shoulder, a process that involved reconnecting her bicep and two tendons on the right side, all of which had been completely torn after a fall. We met with several doctors, but had an immediate feeling of confidence when we met with Dr. Seade. He has been patient, thorough, and informative throughout the process, and has worked to make the process as painless as possible, literally and figuratively. I can't believe this is my first review when he's now completed work on both my shoulders (6 years apart). But the review is the same....EXCEPTIONAL. Both experiences have been so positive and the results (no surprise) successful. Dr. Seade is not only an excellent physician (the best in his field) but he's also a really great human being to boot. So humble and kind. We've all had those doctors that are constantly rushed and barely attentive but that is most definitely NOT the case with Dr. Seade and his wonderful staff that includes the brilliant and oh-so-fashionable, Ally. Dr. Seade always takes the time to listen to your concerns, answers all your questions and walks you through each and every option. He will always recommend the path of least resistance and never suggests surgery straight away unless no other options exists. And even then he once told me "you know it's possible to live with a torn rotator cuff...you just have to work around it" to which I replied "NO thanks, I'll take the surgery." There is no salesman in his swag. It's a shame I only get to see them when tragedy strikes because they are all such a warm and fun group. RUN FROM THIS DOCTOR! Doctor Seade is immoral. He lied to me to get me to do an unnecessary surgery on a simple collarbone break. He lied to me that the only real side effect I would have would be a scar. He lied to me after the surgery when I came to him complaining how much it hurt and how I couldn't function by telling me it looked perfect. He also lied on the operating notes by claiming my injury was a non-union when in fact he re-broke a perfectly healed fracture. He did this to justify operating also on my hip -- ruining my hip in the process -- to graft about an inch of bone --that wasn't needed -- into my collarbone -- jamming it into the surrounding muscle and nerves and causing me non-stop extreme pain ever since. Every time I went in or called about my suffering, he lied to me and argued with me that it looked great and I would be fine. I literally went crazy for a while because of this. Now every day is a struggle. He took a simple collarbone break and absolutely destroyed my life. I found out the hard way that he is a doctor who is only in it for the money and will lie to you to take your money and doesn't care at all if he handicaps you for life in the process. DO NOT BELIEVE THE GOOD REVIEWS. Seade spends a lot of money on his website, Google AdWords, and reputation management here on Yelp. If you notice many of the five star reviews never had surgery with him. What kind of a doctor would need to buy Google AdWords? Is that moral? Do not trust him. If you do go see him -- which I highly recommend you do not -- he comes across as very professional and caring. He is anything but. He cares about money. He does not care about you. (By the way, Allie, his physician's assistant is just as crooked.) In my case, when I kept complaining about the pain and asking why my shoulder looked so deformed, Seade actually told me I just had too big of an ego. It was as if the whole surgery was just some kind of moral lesson. What kind of a surgeon messes you up and then tells you that? Seade would have kept lining me up with operation after operation if things had gone according to his plans. As it is, he performed two -- one to ruin my collarbone and shoulder and putting a plate in me, and a second surgery to remove the plate. After the plate removal, Seade insisted I throw my sling in the trash after just one week. He told me I should go out and do anything I wanted -- lift weights, play sports, etc. When the bone broke two weeks later after holding a heavy dinner tray, I saw other doctors, who all told me I should have been wearing a sling for six to eight weeks. Seade wanted to put another plate in for the new break, but my wife and family insisted I did not do it. He was also trying to rope me into surgeries later on to shave down bone, etc., just to make it look better. However, after the fallout of my hysteria over my extremely destroyed shoulder, he shied away and said he didn't think any more surgeries would help. He was definitely not touching the extreme mess he created in the first surgery and told me probably no other doctor would dare try to fix it either. All the while, please note, he was still telling me his surgery had been perfect. I suppose I should be thankful I still have an arm and can still walk. However, I hobble around now on a bad hip and nurse a deformed shoulder in constant pain and wondering how, at only 40, my life could have ended up this terribly simply because I decided to trust a doctor who convinced me there was something wrong -- when there actually wasn't -- and that he was there to help. If you are lucky enough to read this, GO SEE SOMEONE ELSE. DO NOT GO TO DR. SEADE. I will post before and after pictures soon so you can see for yourself. DO NOT TRUST HIM. My review of Dr. Seade has been deleted two times by Yelp which I find very unfortunate and questionable. Yes, I had a negative experience, but as customer service goes, patients have a right to complain. I had frozen shoulder and basically did not get much help from him, but his PA was very helpful. I just lucked out to get an appointment with her one day because he was out. When I went for my 3rd appointment, the visit lasted maybe 5 minutes total, walking in, being seated, Dr. Seade coming in, shaking hands, looking at his iPad, having me show him my ROM and then telling me to keep doing what I was doing. I had concerns about my left shoulder developing problems, which he dismissed. He told me to come back in 4-6 weeks. Another $50 copay for nothing? If you need a second opinion or another option, try Texas Orthopedics. They are wonderful! Excellent customer service and many doctors/locations to choose from, and they don't take Fridays off! I was setting up a new patient appointment and they got me seen the following day. Filled out new patient paperwork on their tablet which was convenient and thorough. After the x-rays, the doctor was able to stick to the basics of examining and diagnosing the problem in my left shoulder with the AC joint. I got a cortisone shot and prescription for physical therapy. He told me I could see him again when needed. I didn't have to pay extra for the cortisone shot which seemed to be standard procedure in Dr. Seade's office. read more

After 2 rotator cuff surgeries with Dr. Seade at the Hyde Park Surgery Center, I recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone considering such a repair. Dr. Seade and his staff are the best, in my humble and very experienced opinion. If you have damaged your shoulder, there is a chance that you do not need surgery. Dr. Seade wanted to go slow, try some PT, work on building the strength back... maybe it was a small tear that could heal itself? I appreciated his conservative approach, but I did not want to go slow. I wanted my arm back, and I knew that something was severely wrong. Three years ago I fell on my shoulder and lost the use of my left arm completely. It hung at my side, and I was scared that I would be disabled for life. In my extensive research of the best shoulder Dr.s, I found two in Texas who I would consider. The second was a much older fellow in San Antonio. I chose Dr. Seade because of his friendly, knowledgeable demeanor and his professional staff. I have heard people say that rotator cuff surgery is one of the most painful with one of the longest rehab schedules. So be warned. For about a month and a half after your surgery, sleep is nearly impossible. Gravity pulls the shoulder down at one angle when you stand, and another when you are in bed. Ice therapy helps, but the sling is not fun. Rehab was slow... and painful. Small victories. I trust Dr. Seade and my trust increased after I saw how caring he was with my mom's shoulder surgery.* A year after my surgery I was thrilled to have full use of my left arm. So thrilled that I bought the best damn bike and did an endo- end over end- face first into the concrete. The elbow of my left arm hit first, and then I remember being surrounded by women. Three women, like Kimberly's Angels, surrounded me with their cars as they jumped out holding cell phones like guns. Blood was everywhere. They did not move me and would not let me move. I never got their names. I love them. My ambulance ride to the hospital was the longest, most expensive 4 minutes in a vehicle that I ever want to experience. I thought I was going to pass out, the pain in my arm was so incredible... I thought I had shattered my elbow, maybe broken my arm, maybe broken my neck. The pain... then the morphine kicked in and everything was entertaining. Just another story in my life. The rotator cuff includes 4 tendons, and the one most commonly ripped is called the supraspinatus. My wreck on the bike -bought to celebrate complete shoulder recovery- caused me to rip the supraspinatus for a second time. What are the chances? Miracuously enough, the xrays showed that nothing was broken and the MRI showed that the new injury did not impact any of the previous work from my previous repair. The 3 titanium screws were still firmly in place, and previous repair work was all intact. Dr. Seade again wanted to try the slow approach, do some PT, not jump into another surgery. I tried it, but after a year of working on it, I knew that I would never be able to put on a shirt or coat without pain in my shoulder, and I would never be able to swim freestyle if I did not have the rotator cuff surgery again. Like all surgeries, there is no guarantee. The surgery is often only as good as the patient's commitment to rehabbing the shoulder fully. Rehab was tough the first time around... could i do it again? Three months after my second surgery, I say YES. Dr. Seade and his staff did their job, now I need to do mine. I can do this. To repeat, after 2 rotator cuff surgeries with Dr. Seade at the Hyde Park Surgery Center, I recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone considering such a surgery. Dr. Seade and his staff are simply the best. *My mom had rotator cuff surgery 2 years before i did and instead of 4 small incisions on her shoulder, her surgeon at that time sliced her open, one large 5" scar... incredible. She hurt her other shoulder, and after seeing Dr. Seade's work on my shoulder, and my complete recovery, she chose to have her other shoulder repaired by him. I have seen what another surgeon's work looked like on my mom, and her recovery from Dr. Seade's work was much faster because he cut through a lot less of her shoulder... he is precise and very calm and deliberate ... and knows what he is doing. RUN from this doctor. He lied to me about the procedure I needed to have done on my shoulder. He told me he was going to do a minor repair and ended up doing a totally severe and invasive procedure that ended up failing after several months. He seems to be one of the most pathologically uncaring people I've ever met and I wish I'd never let him do my surgery. Not only that, as I was recovering, I had a wonderful PT guy and everything he told me about how to take care/rehab my shoulder kept on contradicting Seade's "carefree" approach to rehab. As a retired Doctor when I found out that at the time of my fall 13 feet into a tile floor I had destroyed both my shoulders. Due to a lack diagnosis and treatment in Washington State I could not have a normal repair and had to have bilateral reverse shoulder replacements. Dr. Seade saw that within 1 minute after looking at my MRI that I would have the final surgical repair I could ever have --bilateral total reverse shoulder replacements. The first Surgeon in Round Rock said it was a simple repair. I knew that that did not make sense to me. I looked all over the USA to find the best shoulder surgeon and he was actually in Austin. If you have frozen shoulder you are desperate for help, but honestly do your research and look into to finding someone who truly specializes in frozen shoulder. This doctor does not. His premise is that if you have frozen shoulder you probably have diabetes, even though I don't. I had my blood work done just the prior month and he treated my case differently because he made a lot of assumptions. For the 1st appointment, he didn't give me the normal cortisone injection amount. I was lucky that I only saw the PA for my 2nd appointment and she was able to treat my condition, advise and help jump start my healing. For the 3rd appointment, I again saw the doctor, a five minute appointment when he mainly just looked at his iPad, definitely not worth a $50 co-pay. The doctor's office overcharged me for the cortisone shots, I talked to my insurance company and they did reimburse me for those. read more

FIVE STARS for Dr. Seade for NOT TREATING me. :) Here is why: Well, long overdue, in 2014, I was DISABLED with excruciating neck/shoulder pain that came in spasms of stabbing pain with on-going numbing extending down my hand. I couldn't dress myself or look over my left shoulder driving and work was starting to be impossible. I was piling on pain-killers but going downhill. I started with Dr. Seade based on my perception that the pain was in my shoulder and a friend who highly recommended him from her experience years before (non-surgical treatment). Dr. Seade took time to manipulate my shoulder and arm and confidently pronounced that my issue wasn't shoulder-related. Now, here I will go into lay-person observation :)...I believe that he was right that it wasn't something he, a shoulder surgeon, was going to be able to fix with his tools. He appropriately referred me to his associate Dr. Josey, a neck specialist. The rest of my journey is below and I credit each of the professionals with me being healthy today, those who told me what it wasn't, in addition to those who finally solved the problem. That is, THANK YOU for not rushing to a surgical option when my problem wasn't surgical. :) :) :) The rest of my story: the neck surgeon ID'd two badly herniated discs in my neck but said the pain wasn't related to these (wrong symptoms), so he recommended immediate pain relief through steroidal shots and then PT (I'm also raving about all these drs separately for not rushing to surgery). The neck surgeon told me that his own wife had had similar shots 12 years before for similar pain and it had never returned. The Dr he referred me to for the shots is a chronic pain specialist who re-examined me and my scans and then used a skeletal replica of a neck to explain in more detail why the pain I was experienced didn't seem related at all to my herniated discs. He agreed my pain was real, though, and that I was so much in pain the shots would help me with my daily activities and get going with PT. I will always be grateful for the two surgeons and this pain specialist who validated my pain AND reassured me that they would be happy to see me again IF I needed them but that non-surgery deserved a chance. Within a month (the shots took 3-4 weeks to take effect), I was in physical therapy (PT). My PT identified general muscle weakness in my upper back and shoulder, typical of many office workers and my general lack of exercise anyway, but most crucially she ID'd that I was most responsive to pressure-point massage, what she called Active Release Therapy. While she didn't offer it herself, another patient told us both about Chris. OMG!!!!! I NEVER thought I'd be interested in a chiropractor, and I still have zero interest in adjustment (yes, tried it once), but the ART technique was SUCH A RELIEF, every time I walked out after a session of ART, then PT immediately following on-site, I felt amazing. The relief lasted longer and longer each time and meanwhile I picked up other strength exercises via a new workout program, only adding exercises that didn't hurt, which were more and more. I still catch myself having to remember to un-hunch over a computer (like now, over this review, haha), sit straight shoulders back during meetings, and lift my phone to my face instead of leaning my head and neck over my phone, but I am HAPPILY CURED still, years later. I tell people about ART all the time AND remind folks that it takes a long time for the body to run down and it took a year from when I first saw the shoulder surgeon through PT, ART, more PT, and general fitness, but it pays off! Everyone of these folks was a necessary part of the journey, but ultimately it was the shots for immediate relief, ART, PT, and strength training which healed me. Bless Dr. Seade for being such an amazing dr that he could say confidently refer me to a non-surgical option. :) read more

I was a patient of Dr. Seade for several years. I had severe shoulder pain which he treated with injections that relieved the pain for many months at a time. I was very happy that I didn't have to have surgery. The last time the pain came back, I tried to make an appointment and was told he no longer accepted my health insurance (Humana). Humana is a respected insurance provider and I have never been told by any health provider that they would not accept it. That was very disappointing. I don't know why he has a problem with Humana, but I suspect it is financial. If true, that is unfortunate. Fortunately, it took me about a day to find another provider who was more than willing to help me and he had no problem with Humana. read more

I found Dr. Seade in 2012 when I first hurt my shoulder. I have scene referred several friends and family members to his practice. I have always liked Dr. Seade however after my last office visit I will not be returning to that office. I had a 1:00 appointment and arrived 20 minutes early. The office collects any fees prior to seeing the doctor so I paid that and took a seat. I watched people come and go and after my appointment time came and went as well I walked up to the counter to be sure I had not been forgotten. I felt somewhat talked down too and was told they were just waiting for a room to open up to put me into, "then why are you filling the rooms up as quickly as they empty with other clients that arrived after me"? almost an hour after my appointment time I went back to the counter provided my paid receipt and asked for a refund and a copy of my MRI results I previously went to ARA for. I work in healthcare and I know the quality of a surgeon starts in the lobby. If service level dips below normal there it is carried throughout the entire practice including the operating room. I do not live in Austin city limits so the entire office visit is 3 hours out of my equally busy day. I found the staff to feel empowered to talk down to people and make excuses "a kinder way to say lie" about why things are not on time. I was told when I was getting my MRI and refund that they could fit me in now, however I will not allow a poor practice to operate on my body. I feel horrible about this turn of events. Dr. Seade had been a great doctor and surgeon and I am at a loss as to what has happened to that practice. today they lost much more than a single patient but I do not think they have the capacity to understand that fact just yet. read more

I went to Dr. Seade after seeing several other shoulder surgeons because I'd been to another doctor in his clinic. He is professional, willing to explain things thoroughly (he even allowed me to video his explanation of my total shoulder replacement so I would understand what he would be doing). He at no time rushed me into deciding on surgery but left it entirely up to me; saying I would know when it was time. And I did. He has done many shoulder replacements, has a sound protocol for physical therapy and has the respect of many physical therapists in Austin. Dr. Seade, is amazing! In 2009 ,he repaired a big torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder. It was an injury I had sustained several years prior while in the United States Marine Corps. In October of 2015 , the VA attempted to repair a torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder. It was a complete disaster. Not only did the VA fail to fix the tear they actually cause more damage. The VA has the veterans Choice program and orthopedic specialists of Austin accepted that insurance. I was able to get an appointment quickly and I was scheduled for surgery within 2 weeks. I am now 2 months out and I'm doing physical therapy and I have no pain in my left shoulder whatsoever. There is some soreness but no pain. This doctor and his entire staff are very professional, courteous an extremely helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Seade and orthopedic specialists of Austin. An outstanding organization. read more

I had a SLAP repair 6 weeks ago with Dr. Seade. I originally went to him for a 2nd opinion and liked him so much I chose him to do the surgery. I have been so impressed with him and his staff. Hyde Park surgery center was awesome! Recovery and rehab is a slow, painful process and every time I have a question or concern Dr. Seade himself calls me back. I had shoulder surgery in Kansas City and it was my worst nightmare. I had the same surgery with Dr. Seade on the other arm and the difference was unbelievable. I would reccomend him to anyone. Wow! I was referred to Dr. Seade after falling on my bicycle and injuring my shoulder. I called on Monday morning, and they had a 1 pm appointment on the same day. By 1:10 pm, I was in the room, had briefed the technician, and Dr. Seade was checking me out with a portable ultrasound machine. He quickly determined that my tendons were not torn, and my bones were most likely not cracked. Another 30 minutes later, two x-rays were completed and I found out my injury was only a severe sprain. Dr. Seade was pleasant, professional and knowledgable. In fact, every single person I dealt with was friendly, professional, and prompt. What a well-run organization, and a great doctor! I hate to leave a bad review but I did not have a good experience with Dr. Seade. I came in for my shoulder pain, in hoping he could tell me why it hurts. Is it caused by my neck or something wrong with my shoulders? As a typical routine, the technician walked me in, asked which shoulder hurts more. I answered, and then she left. The PA came in, asked a few questions, andleft. The doctor came in. He sat down for a minute, and his phone rang. He looked at it, then put it in his pocket. In the mean time he suggested that I should take muscle relaxer med, and go to physical therapy. If these things do not help he will refer me to a neck specialist. He thinks that my problem is my neck, not my shoulders. Why doesn't he refer me to a neck specialist now. I have been to PT and it did not help my pain. The phone rang again, he picked it up and told the caller to wait, then put the phone back in his pocket. I wanted to be courteous, and told him he should answer the call. I guess I wanted him to get over with the phone call so he could devote his attention to me. He stepped outside. I was left waiting. The PA came in, and gave me a list of the physical therapy offices. I asked the PA if the doctor will be coming in again. The PA said she does not know. When I picked up things to leave the office, he came in and told me "go to physical therapy" I did not have a chance to ask any questions. I felt like the office visit was a waste of time and money. read more

It is a pleasure to be able to write a review like this. Over the last few months, I have had two total shoulder replacement operations performed by Dr. Edward Seade. For those of you that have looked into this, you know this is serious business, a complex and difficult operation. While I did some reading in the area, I am by no means an expert. With that as context, Dr. Seade performed brilliantly and I recommend him without the slightest hesitation or reservation. If you are considering shoulder work, ask your would-be surgeon how many times he or she has performed the required procedure in the preceding twelve months. Dr. Seade had performed more than 80 shoulder replacements in the previous year. His performance on me reflected that level of experience. He is a friendly, down-to-earth man who I found very easy to deal with. Thanks to Dr. Seade, what could have been an awful, painful experience passed smoothly. I feel very grateful. read more
