I am very happy to share my experience with using ATX Orthopedics for total knee replacement and Dr. Gallagher. It was such a pleasant surprise to go to an office that was not over crowded and the front staff were friendly and helpful. (I used a different orthopedic group for foot surgery and experienced large, overcrowded waiting rooms, long lines for checking in and out, and late appointments.) ATX Orthopedics treats you like you are a very special patient and not just a number! When I met Dr. Gallagher, I could tell he was very knowledgeable in the field of orthopedics and after he looked at my knee x-rays recommended knee replacement surgery. I told him I could not live with the pain anymore and was ready to take the next step. He told me he uses a method of pain management that helps speed in the recovery of his patients. I was referred to a pain management specialist who deadened some of the nerves around my knee a week prior to surgery. This procedure was relatively painless and enabled me to have knee surgery, at Pinnacle day surgery, and go home the same day! I couldn't believe I was walking with a walker the same day as my surgery and sleeping in my own bed. If you follow his instructions and do the exercises, go to physical therapy, and take the prescribed medications you will be on the road to recovery before you know it! However, when someone is considering knee replacement surgery, they need to consider all aspects in order to feel comfortable with this major procedure. Dr. Gallagher and his team are truly AWESOME! Yep. I had a recent knee replacement. First visit: Staff was extremely warm and friendly. Yet they were cautious about my distancing from other patients and kept me safe at all times. The receptionist, the Technical lady who took the x-rays, the PA who spoke with me and took a first look, Dr. Gallagher and the checkout lady were all so nice, yet efficient and professional. Second visit to discuss surgery was exactly as fine! From entering to leaving their office, I felt like a very special person, a king!!! Their work is excellent, including Dr. Gallagher's. The surgery went as he had explained. The recovery was as expected. Candidly, the first 2 weeks was a bit uneasy. But the two catheters into the upper and lower knee kept pain at bay for the first 5 days. Then the Prescriptions definitely helped me minimize pain for the next 4 weeks until I was out and about. I ran out of one of the meds and used the portal to reach Dr. Gallagher. He ordered those from my neighborhood pharmacy and my wife picked them up in couple of hours. If I can describe it in few words then "Simply the Best Surgeon, with abundance of experience and true soul"!!! Two years ago I was involved in a car accident that ended up with a torn tendon, from the first day walking into the clinic the staff members were simply amazing. that is what I call "Customer Service" Vickie the secretary rocks, welcomes you with a smile on her face that shines through!! Dr. Sean Gallagher had checked me and listened carefully to my symptoms and based to both the MRI and my symptoms he recommended to have a surgery. The thought of having to go through more pain while in pain from the accident was scary but he immediately made me feel the most comfort letting me know that this surgery is a "Peace of Cake" and truly it surely it was. I literally opened my eyes after surgery asking "when am I going into surgery" not realizing I was after. But that is just the first part, the best part of it all was that the surgery was so perfect that the recovery was amazing and I was back to work and life in no time. Dr. Gallagher is not just an amazing Dr. but he truly is a people's person with all heart and soul. Last year I was diagnosed with acute arthritis on both knees, Dr Gallagher recommended both knee replacements, and scheduled the surgery immediately. I had the surgery done on 3/1 and two weeks after I'm already walking 1/4 of a mile without any assistance, not even a walker! I call him "Angel" and I believe it's him who's gotten me into being so strong, he believes it's me and my persistence to overcome the pain and see the gain. Moved to Austin in September, 2017 with painful arthritis in my left knee. Consulted with one ortho surgeon who took x-rays and immediately recommended a total knee replacement. Wanting a second opinion I asked around and was given Dr. Gallagher's name by several referral sources. Dr. Gallagher looked at x-rays and ordered an MRI in order to be completely sure of what the total condition of my knee was. Sure enough, the MRI indicated only a partial knee replacement. I had the surgery with Dr. Gallagher on January 15, 2018. Two days later I was home and the next day I was walking mostly without assistance. Not that far mind you, but gradual gains. He also ordered in-house PT which was awesome in speeding my recovery and range of motion in the knee. Two weeks later all of the arthritic pain is gone and I'm fully mobile again. The only slight pain remaining is from the incision site, which will fully abate in several more weeks. Dr. Gallagher is thorough, concise, and fully up to date on the latest medial procedures. He has an excellent bedside manner and is fully competent with absolutely no arrogance. He makes you feel completely comfortable being in his care. I am so glad I found him. read more

I went to Dr. Gallagher because the previous orthopedist I had seen for my painful knees was not helpful. Dr. Gallagher took some X-rays, listened to my symptoms and then took his time to explain to me exactly what was causing my pain. He didn't send me off to twice weekly physical therapy, nor order an MRI like the previous orthopedist I had seen. Instead, he showed me several exercises and stretches I could do on my own throughout the day. The least professional team you can ever deal with! I visited Dr. Gallagher to do an ACL Surgery. First when I arrived, I was faced with the greedy nurse telling me I have to pay even if my insurance covers. She probably never processed a bill to an insurance before and she mixed up my primary and secondary insurance and I ended up with a $400 copay instead of a $25 copay. One year out and I could not be more pleased. I've only had to do just a handful of followup visits with Dr. Gallagher, but every time, he is just as thoughtful, patient, and helpful in answering all my questions. I healed incredibly fast, skipped home therapy and right to a short stint of PT. I now walk through all of Costco with no pain. My other knee is actually holding up much better since I've got one good one to work with and looks like I can put it off for a few more years, so right in line with what Dr. Gallagher recommended. In my bid to apparently put more metal in my body, I know I'll be going to him for a shoulder replacement next. Same story, I talked to him about it after my previous doctor had given me a dozen reasons not to and he said I shouldn't wait, that there's no reason to be in pain. So as soon as I can make my schedule work, I'll be back with him to replace it. Really grateful to have this kind of professional at work. read more

I'm very pleased with my new knees. I told Dr Gallagher I wanted to be able to walk my dog, work in my wildflower beds, and hike easier trails. Wasn't looking to climb Kilamanjaro, though that would be nice for some. Nine months after surgery, I walk my dog miles every week, work hours weekly preparing beds for new seeds, and walked a couple of miles on a nature trail last week. For a fat lady, that's pretty damned good. My only reservation was that i decided to stay home post op, and with little help at home, it was a risky decision. I had no idea how debilitated i'd be. Probably would have been safer in rehab a week or two. i think Dr Gallagher is a great surgeon, but needs some skill in psychology. I still ended up in working condition. read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Gallagher and his staff today! Yelp did not steer me wrong! I went to see Dr. Gallagher for a second opinion regarding a problem I was having with my knee, which previously had ACL reconstructive surgery. I was so worried that I was going to have to have surgery on it again. Dr. Gallagher said my knee felt and looked good in the x-rays (what relief - my precious ACL, which is technically now my patellar tendon, was safe!) He recommended some stretching and strengthening exercises that the previous orthopaedic doctor and physical therapist did not ( it turns out the physical therapist actually recommended an exercise that was aggravating my knee further). Dr. Gallagher SAVED ME from an invasive surgery that two other orthopedic surgeons recommended. After reviewing my file, he diagnosed me with a much milder condition that could be fixed through PT. Instead of sending me to an expensive PT facility, he personally walked me through the exercises and said to try on my own for a few weeks and come back if it didn't fix the issue. SHOCKER! Simple hamstring stretches completely fixed my knee pain after 3 year and 6 PT/Arrosti/Orthopedic doctors. I cannot say how much I appreciate the old school service Dr. Gallagher provided. I hate to write this, because now I know it's going to hard to schedule an appointment with him, but he's a legit GREAT doctor. This type of doctor is very rare these days. I couldn't be happier with the results of my bilateral hip replacement by Dr. Sean Gallagher, of All Star Orthopedics. I am so grateful for for his skills as a surgeon and his reassuring human presence, both before and after surgery. He offered to replace both hips at the same time because they were so bad, and reassured me that he had done this longer and more challenging surgery before. He recognized my fear and told me, in a way that deeply reassured me, "I'm going to take good care of you." And he did, emotionally and most important, physically. I wanted an atmosphere of calm and healing in the OR. He was receptive to reading healing statements I supplied both him and the anesthesiologist during the surgery, (i.e., "You know how to manage bleeding and will bleed very little."), and was comfortable with me listening to music, birds chirping and recorded healing suggestions on earphones while I was anesthetized. The staff of his office, especially the nurse, Kaylee, have been wonderful. I never waited more than a few minutes to be seen. The results of the surgery have been beyond expectation: Six days after surgery I went to a movie in a mall and later negotiated two flights of stairs. Three weeks out I am walking indoors without assistance (small steps getting longer), and can negotiate the supermarket taking long steps, pushing a cart for a bit of support. I must admit I am fussy about doctors and interviewed several before choosing Dr. Gallagher formy procedure. I give him my highest recommendation. read more

I fractured my left ankle and was really worried sick about it. But I could trust Dr Sean Gallegher. He is truly what a doctor should be to his patients. He was calm, confident,attentive to details and looked like he knew what he was doing. He wanted me to wait one week , so all my swellings would go away and we could take a more informed decision whether to go for surgery or not.And guess what, I didn't had to get that surgery. This was a bad experience from start to finish. The receptionist told me the doctor was on schedule when I arrived. After waiting an hour past my appointment time, I asked if things were backed up...again she said he was on time! I finally got in to see the doctor after waiting for 1.5 hours. I understand doctors can get behind schedule for reasons outside their control, but the utter denial/obfuscation from the front desk staff was bizarre. During the long wait the staff took my picture, saying it was for their records, I felt like that was a violation of my privacy. Then, after a very quick examination, the doctor prescribed a medication (Naproxen) that I had told the nurse is not helping me. Apparently, the doctor doesn't read the notes in the chart prepared by his nurse. Total waste of time and money. read more

Dr. Gallagher did my total hip replacement last year. He did an excellent job. I am a difficult patient as I have several medical problems Lupus with a history of several strokes one which left me paralyzed on my right side (the side I broke my hip). When the ex-rays were taken it was also discovered that I had broken my hip several years ago and I did not realize that and it had healed. Dr. Gallagher had a great bedside manner. He came to see me everyday that I was in the hospital. He happily answered any questions that I had. He was also very good at explaining my different options and the pros and cons to each one. He made sure that it was my choice what to have done, but outlined the risks and benefits very well. Now one year later I am back to the regular exercise that I was doing before the hip replacement. read more

I tend not to agree with the reviews about Dr. Gallagher. He did total knee replacement on me; and though the surgery was successful, I felt that during the process prior to and especially after the surgery Dr. Gallagher never got to know me as a person. My follow-up visit was OK, but with some paralysis on my entire surgical leg (could not move it), his assessment was that I was "too anxious" and that I had too much "anxiety." It was then I realized that he had not a clue anything about me. Of the hundreds and hundreds of people who know me, they would never use anxious or anxiety about me. So leave your expectations about him knowing you as a "person" and an "individual" at the door. Would I use him again? No. I cling to the notation that if a doctor is doing surgery and follow-up with me, he should get to know me. Front office staff knew me better than he did. read more

Dr. Gallagher is quite simply, a splendid physician, one of the few at the top tier of his profession. I can speak with some authority on the subject because I'm an old guy and have had a long experience with all manner of doctors, clinics and hospitals. He has the highest level of diagnostic and surgical skills, but that isn't enough to make a great physician; that takes the ability to carefully listen, respect, and empathize with patients, which Dr. Gallagher certainly has. I saw Dr. Gallagher for my shoulder. He spent plenty of time with me first examining the shoulder, then explaining his diagnosis to me. I followed his advice for conservative treatment and my shoulder has made a miraculous turn around. I was unable to use it due to pain when I first saw him, and now it is almost as good as new. I highly recommend Dr. Gallagher for both his skills and his positive attitude. I came to see him after I fractured my elbow in two places. This was the first time I had ever broken anything, so I didnt know what to expect. Dr. Gallagher explained the possibilities to me and then scheduled surgery for two days later. That's pretty quick! I was thrilled to get it over with and get on with the healing process. Either by skill or good fortune he was able to avoid replacing all of the joint with hardware. He also got me out of my cast and that god-awful sling in about one week. I was moving that elbow and able to dress myself again in no time! His surgery was excellent and left a barely visible scar. I also like that he made the cut around the elbow so I wouldn't have to lean on it when I lean on the elbow. Nice touch. Dr. Gallagher is also a really nice person who makes me laugh. I visited Dr. Gallagher for my hip joints conditions. He was the third doctor I visited for this matter and he amazed me. Dr. Gallagher spent long thorough time with me listening through my concerns, answered all my questions, outlined options I have (including bilateral hip replacement), went through pros and cons for each and every option, told me about different surgery technics and anesthesiology options. My wife accompanied me during my second (pre-op) visit, shared her concerns regarding my surgery, and was treated by Dr. Gallagher with great respect. The results of bilateral hip replacement he performed have exceeded my expectations greatly. My post-surgery pain was on the level 1 out of 10 (or even less) and I did not need painkillers. Doctor visited me every day while I was staying in hospital and his reassuring human presence was very helpful. And now I am able to walk again - after years of very limited mobility. I broke my ankle a few weeks ago, and was seen quickly at Dr. Gallagher's office on a Friday morning. His office has a very nice friendly ambiance with a 3D ocean DVD to entertain you while you wait. When Dr. Gallagher came into the room, he utilized a foot/bone model to help show me exactly what was broken and how severe. Other doctors I have seen did not have anything for a visual, so I really appreciated the time he took to walk me through it. Myself, and my family who accompanied me are usually a little skeptical of doctors especially surgeons, but he earned our trust quickly. He did not recommend surgery, and ensured me if I followed his guidance my bones would heal just fine, much better than surgery! He is a very reasonable, nice, trustworthy doctor. After a year of the painful suffering and emotional distress of an unsuccessful TKR outcome, not knowing where to turn, I made some inquiry, and research, and chose to see Dr Gallagher. His background, genuine manner and confident approach to the problem gave me the trust I needed to undergo a 3 month course of treatment consisting of removal with a temporary joint spacer, followed by intense IV antibiotics for infection, then another TKR surgery. It was a seriously tough protocol, but Dr G assured me he could fix it, and.. he did. We are bonded for life! I am a physician who was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Before I saw DR. Gallagher I was miss diagnosed by another Austin orthopedic Dr. I had a shoulder injury that was difficult to find and diagnose correctly. But this was no problem for Dr. Gallagher, it nailed it on the first visit!!! I was scheduled for shoulder surgery in just a few days after the initial visit. The surgery was done in a compassionately and skillfully. He gave pre-op and post-op pain medication to keep me as comfortable as possible. I fell shortly after the surgery and was fearful I had reinjured the shoulder. He saw me immediately and reassured me that it was OK, thank goodness! Dr. Gallagher is a great listener, that is how he picked up on the proper diagnosis of my shoulder. He pulls up a stool and takes a seat and looks up at you and listens!!!!
