I'm a new patient and called the office for a quote prior to my appointment. I had a permanent…read morebottom retainer placed about ten years ago at another orthodontist, who had since closed the practice. I specifically asked for a quote for just the removal of my permanent bottom retainer and even asked if I needed X-rays because I just had those done at my regular dentist within the same month and could have those sent over . I was told there wasn't any need for X-rays, and that the removal of the retainer would be roughly $150. I put $175 aside just in case and took time off work (I'm a teacher and have to use my days sparingly). I got to the office and checked in. The front desk was pleasant and so was the dental assistant. The assistant said the doctor may request X-rays and I told her I'd prefer not to if possible and that I'd been quoted $150. The doctor came and saw me and at that point told the assistant to write a quote and that I'd need X-rays. The quote ended up being $306, which was a little over double what had been said over the phone. I told the hygienist that's not what I'd been quoted and she took me to speak to her officer manager. I told the manager what I had been quoted and she said she had no idea why or who would've quoted me that (I'm pretty sure she could've looked it up by seeing who scheduled me), but that it would be $306. I nicely asked if I could pay $175 down and then be billed the rest or set up payments. I was told if I wanted it done today, it had to be paid in full that day. I ended up having to leave as I didn't have the double amount of what they had quoted me. Like most people in this economy I am struggling and it was very disheartening to think I was going to an efficient and nice facility and then be told it would be double what I was quoted. On top of not being able to get the service done due to that extreme price increase, I also had to lose time off work for an appointment that ended up not serving its purpose. I am now going to Foundation Orthodontics in Rome and was quoted $100. Let's hope their price doesn't jump like Vargos did.
