He wanted to make it looked like it was done on purpose, not repaired, so he even designed and cut a couple pieces of granite from the scraps to fill the gaps. He seems like a nice enough guy speaking to him in person and to be honest I was excited to give him my business (as opposed to a big company) but he has completely wasted 3 months of my home project totally unnecessarily.
