I would.strongly suggest looking for an alternate treatment centre. This place iverpronised and very much under delivered. I was told I would have access to psychiatrists, doctors, psychologist, counselling and other then seeing my very vanilla counsellor Taylor once, that was the extent of it. Most of her responses started with "I understand how you are Feeling" but.....this is how we do it here. I was told verbally by a fellow named Matthew that I could bring my emotional support animal (a 13 year old very sleepy pug). The head of oncology at the cross Cancer wrote me a letter stating this is something I need. I spoke on the phone to a lady named Barbie who later told this is not something they offer. I choose to go anyhow, but became very lonely and asked the director Joel and Liam. I received a completely response lacking any empathy. So with all the false information stated above and coupled with not being allowed my ESA I choose to check out. They had the audacity to suggest they would be Charging me a $3500 walk out fee . That has yet to be charged, but believe me, if this issue is not dropped immediately my lawyer will certainly be involved. They out almost percent of the process in connecting with peers and putting my recovery of other members. The other patients I applaude over and over. They for the most part were so kind, caring, supportive and loving. If the expectation is for them to "fix" me, then they most certainly should be getting a big chunk of my 43,000 I would say from the people I spoke to had the program funded through govt or work. On top of that, some were also paid weekly to Be there. Some of these patients talked openly and quite boisterously about how they would be using the second they get out. It Is well known there is an unmonitored area outside where patients were having sex. I witnessed multiple loud verbal fights amongst patients which made me feel scared. I sat around the puzzle area two nights ago where two patients laughed/joked and explained to each other how to make crack "one referred to himself as chef boyerdee". I was there for alcohol treatment, childhood abandonment and sexual abuse. So thankfully none of this conversation triggered me. I assume it would be tremendously triggering for an addict. All in all, I felt unsafe here, did not get the help that was promoted to me and have checked out. The last thing I will say, is my intake person Jane, was dressed in tight black clothing, nails that could peel the earths surface and was extremely unprofessional. After hearing a call on speaker phone she used the phrase "oh my god, I love him. You are so lucky, what an amazing guy. Showed her a picture and commented on how good looking he is, and then disclosed she is a sex addict. Please please please do yours research on alternate places. Has anyone else had a difficult experience with EHN Recovery? My family's experience was incredibly disappointing. Despite trusting the program to help my son, the support wasn't there -- no returned calls or follow-up from executives, and no real accountability. I know of several others who left the program and tragically didn't make it, and my own son continues to struggle. I went to Edgewood in 2022 and into the new year. All around I had a positive experience. However, during the extended program they allow you into the community for meetings. Often you find staff at these meetings. One night a councillor who facilitated one of the confidential groups disclosed information about me in public when I was a patient. (Breach in confidentially) This traumatic event led me to relapse, In turn getting me kicked out of the program. Some months later, I applied again for additional help. I was refused me, Megan in admissions citing: I relapsed in treatment, was already was there, and health information. I think Edgewood is a business that wants high success as their privately funded. admission for someone who struggles, or continue to struggle is unsavoury as they want to skew results of the disease, to show that they have results in recovery. Further to this they cause significant harm to a person while waiting months for a bed to be available, in turn denying care. read more

Counselling was great. Doctor was awful. My roommate Eric was virtually catatonic for 2 days before he was sent out by ambulance. My first roommate got bone infection while under their care. Left to hospital. Good friend had anxiety and did not sleep for 3 days before he was reviewed. I still am trying to beat addiction but this is over priced and Dr was non existent. read more

Do not go here unless you like jail! Rooms are shared by 2 clients with 2 on the other side of a shared bathroom. There was not an exercise program or yoga! you were allowed 2 30 min walks (on property) OR gym twice daily. i was there 3 weeks and had 1 session with my counsellor. Some clients were accepted and removed later as staff could not treat them. in my opinion staff were not competent and mostly rude. I got COVID when I was there (with no symptoms) and was put in a room and couldn't leave for 5 days. supposedly was supposed to be able to watch meeting on zoom but it didn't work. I asked for a 2nd test as I didn't believe the result and they refused to give me one. I spent hours in that room without contact with anyone and they seemed to forget I her medication to take. I won't even tell you how bad my exit was. no way was I paying another $17,000!! I could ramble on forever but sure you get my point! Nanaimo is beautiful though (what I seen from plane) and I hope to go see it some day! read more

I am truly saddened and disheartened that for such an expensive facility, the counsellor and other staff were very poorly trained in people skills. The administration were however, fabulous and as helpful as they could be. Perhaps to be better effective they could take some refresher courses on interpersonal relationships. This place changed my life. I was tired, scared and alone and didn't know what to expect but as soon as I arrived I felt cared for and safe for the first time in years. As a referring physician, I believe that Edgewood is the best inpatient treatment centre in Western Canada. I have been there several times, to talk to their physicians and counsellors and to evaluate their program. I have referred at least 30 people there over the past 6 years. Most of these people remain clean and sober years later. Edgewood continues to improve to embrace evidence based methods in their programming. I cannot thank them enough for their work. My woman is in there right now and the place is an absolute fucking hell hole for her they are not giving her counselling they are actually making it worse they won't let her leave management is away for the long holiday and all her personal belongings are locked up . They tried to drug her and they said to me when I called to see how she's doing all they said was okey-dokey then -what type of counsellor would say that ? I would never recommend this place and I think they should be shut down because they have no personal skills from what I've been told by my girlfriend and from all the other yelp reviews I've read they are pieces of shit .. I will know more on how they respond to her wanting to leave when they get into work this morning but I'm doubting that they are going to be professional about it . The other day they were given a half hr each to talk to loved ones online on zoom . She was interrupted twice by staff and it was obviously only to be dickfucks to her and her alone . I was told that she asked other patients if they were interrupted at for anything and they all said no - he literally came in the room to wipe down the door handle and open the small blind over the small window on the rooms door . The others were allowed to keep the blinds closed . She went there in hopes of getting help and instead they are giving her hell read more

Don't go here save your money for somewhere that cares... edgewood nanaimo is extremely misleading. The large private rooms with private bathrooms are actually tiny shared room with a bathroom shared between 4 adults. The prison style bed they say are nice and not big enough for an adult and I personally couldn't sleep on them.. I left day one because of medical concerns (4 back surgeries and multiple surgeries on 3 of my limbs) that they would not accommodate when my stay was being funded by wcb. As soon as intake started they classed me a 450 a day compo patient. And joked around about it. The fact that I heard them constantly refer to me as a 450 person. Their family program costs an extra 1260 dollars for 6 weeks online . Paid on top. Doesn't help with kids unless you pay individually for them. The staff are all hired from there clients that have gone through and I doubt they make minimum wage. Please avoid this place this i mentioned a few things but there's a lot more. Our loved one agreed to travel to and stay for treatment. Without insurance, the costs are prohibitive, but we were assured there would be specialized treatment for anxiety, depression, and disassociative disorder. (there wasn't) Both drug addicts and alcoholics, men and women are combined on two teams who alternate shifts in the dining and conferance rooms. They are kept busy almost every minute of the day with chores, walks, lectures and group therapy. Rules are very rigid, schedules rigorous. and there is no spare time or privacy. They use the 12 step program, and group therapy with very little one on one. Although patients are assigned counselors they obviously didn't see that our loved one was flying under the radar. After 8 weeks we were told they were not "getting it", "still in denial" and would need to stay on for the extended program. Unwiiling to do so they arranged transport home, and within12 hours our loved one was drinking again. In hindsight (20/20) we feel this is a profit driven facility that overstates it's own success rate. The facilities and grounds are beautiful, the food is incredible, but the program and staff are lacking. Unless you have insurance or 50K, I'd look else where. read more

I was at Edgewood the beginning of 2017, and still think about my experience there! I went there for a cocaine addiction before I was sent, they were told about me past of sexual abuse and strip searching me apron arrival is not to happen. When I showed up after 12 hours of travel they made me take all my clothes off and spread my legs and turn around. Once I passed my strip search I was told to put there night wear on and take some medication. From the point they gave me meds I remember very little. I do remember the first morning waking up I went and took my meds as instructed, then not long after falling to the floor then being in a wheelchair..I have no idea how long I was that way cause I only remember bits and pieces. But once I was walking on my own I was in alot of pain and told it was my fault because of what I have done. But before went I was working full time and never missed any work. Once i was able to go to all classes and lectures of the day we did have the opportunity to either go for a walk or the gym, I was going to the gym till I was not allowed to anymore because I worked out to hard. I did struggle with a eating disorder and the fatty horrible food they served I did struggle alot with but was forced to stay and eat it. As time when on I really struggled with being treated like I was a total screw up..knowing already I was, seeing I was there!! They treated me like I was garbage and no good to be apart of society and if I did not do as they told they will call my work and get me fired. The more I stood up for myself the more meds they fed me. Once I was to the end of my 8 weeks they recommended that I go to after care. I thought alot about it and talked to my counselor in my home town she told me work will not fire me if i dont go, so i decided to go home and once i told them i was not going to aftercare they told me to book a flight asap. So I booked my flight then was told I owed them over $300 in medication they been giving me so I paid that, they put me in a cab and sent me away. Once I got home I when to check in at work so I can go back, the dr there reviewed the me6d Edgewood put me on and said there is no way I can work and would not let me drive home. So they end of sending me to a detox center in kamloops to come of the meds they put me on and put me in another treatment center called sage. I was so scared to go there but once I was they they treated me like a real person that needed help with my past. After 8 weeks I left there a new person and been clean now for just over 3 years. I have nothing but good to say about sage and all the staff there, I truly believe they saved my my life. Thank you sage for believing in me and not what it did!! read more

A trusted person in the health field with much experience in additions recommended Edgewood to us and had we not followed her advice, I would have lost my daughter either to an early grave or incarceration. Edgewood is not an easy place, it's no holiday. What it is, is a treatment centre where you will not be able to hide or lie. My daughter learned quickly to face her addictions and Edgewood staff worked with her to construct a program that she could run on her own when she left. They helped her transition back into a safe social setting where she could keep people around her who would understand what recovery was and how to cope with the good and bad days. After leaving treatment, she found work quickly and eventually made her way to university where she is one semester away from her degree and hoping to go to law school after that. Edgewood taught her how to take control of her life, to know her limits, to be an accountable, responsible adult and realize that she could have a limitless future. She's been in recovery for almost 4 years and has not had a relapse. And if she did, I would not hesitate to have her back at Edgewood because the proof points are so strong. I don't have money laying around in stacks, but this is where I'd invest my money first. Period. read more

I was a patient at Edgewood in 2010. I spent 2 months in the facility being told I was helpless, hopeless, and destined to die if I did not follow the 'Word of Edgewood.' If I did not complete my treatment I would have not been allowed to return to work as it had been mandated by my company. I bit my tongue and played ball, all the while knowing that something was wrong with a fear based doctrine (there is a list of alumni who have died AFTER receiving treatment) and counsellors who never once hinted that the bases of my addiction was a mental health issue and not a lack of God. Now three years out, I have delved into the world of Mental Health after being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. I have spent this time in cognitive therapy and practicing the skills involved in dialectical behaviour therapy. Today, I no longer meet the criteria for either and am virtually medication free. I experienced several relapses, but over time as my mental health improved - the cravings went away. Thd halls of Edgewood are full of mentally ill people, and Iwas one if them. If you follow the Edgewood treatment plan, they will keep you sick by not encouraging you to seek help for your mental health issues, thus staying in their system, and keeping the highly profitable machine moving. Although I highly respect many of the counsellors who work there, it is the upper level management that causes me concern. The bottom line in Edgewood is money. Where else would people be encouraged to mortgage their homes in order to attend treatment? And if your money runs out-you are out. If you don't pay up, they will send the bill to a collection agency. How many patients were being sponsored in any way in the two months I was there? None. I only ask that you consider one thing before delving into these murky waters of Rehab Centers; how is your mental health? Treatment is a wonderful thing and I feel fortunate to have been blessed enough to have been sent there-but there is no reason to waste an additional $20,000 on their aftercare, family care, etc. If I were to do it all again, I would get treatment at a Non AA Rehab Clinic, then start getting to the root of your problems with Cognitive Therapy and anything else that is offered to you. And remember, YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE...you just need a little help to get back on track, learn the recovery skills, and be treated for any mental health issues. Edgewood Treatment Center is a God send to me as I have been in psychotherapy treatment for over two years with little to no improvement. After the CTAP program, I'm a new man who has been able to overcome PTSD/MDD triggers and alcohol abuse with the tools and techniques taught. Unlike other treatment centres that deal with the immediate issue, Edgewood got to the heart of my issue knowing that trauma all starts from childhood. Knowing this and my negative core beliefs, I am now able to steer my life into a new direction with hope in my future. Prior to in patient care, I became suicidal and was committed in a psychiatric ward. The program works for those willing to put in the effort necessary to work on themselves. It's hard work and if you are willing to put in the effort, great results will happen in a short period of time. I would have to say that it would have taken years to receive the kind of help I receive in a short period. The staff are very caring, loving group of people wanting the very best for all their patients. Their commitment is second to none in staying with a patient, listening to their story and provide comfort for the person in crisis. I cannot say enough about the program except it is a safe environment and you learn to lean on each other that are also in the program. Knowing you are not alone, the group and individual sessions provide a comfortable atmosphere to share and tell your story in a setting where you are not judged but supported. A family member told me about the reviews that Edgewood was receiving on this site, and I could not believe the negative responses from people, so I needed to give a positive one, because Edgewood saved my life. I went through Edgewood 13 years ago, yes it may be true that Edgewood is a private facility, and yes its costs money to go there, but what is money vs. a life, it was worth every dime, to have 13 years of life, happiness and freedom from my addiction. In my fifteen years of my addiction, I spend 10 x that amount. Edgewood is no way like the military, I spend 20 years in the Army, and if you think that is like being in the military or booth camp, you are sadly miss-informed, maybe you need to go to boot camp and then you can write a knowledgeable review, then you could speak and write of both signs of the coin, like I can. After going through boot-camp, instructing boot-camp also, and attending Edgewood for 58 days I can tell you that its world apart, it almost makes me laugh to see reviews that compare the same. Yes it is true that Edgewood has rules, but does everything in life also have rules, I had no problem following rules, but I did have a problem following the small stuff, and Edgewood help me see that following the small stuff is Important, how can I deal with Life on Life terms on the outside if I cannot follow simple things in Edgewood. When I was in my addiction I did not follow rules or the family values that I was given, Edgewood help me realize through the rules surrounding the small things why it is so important for my recovery, how can I not follow the big things in life if I cannot follow the simple ones, that is one of the keys to the 12 step program. I am a solider and have served my country fighting for the freedoms people enjoy in this great country, I almost lost my career due to my addiction, in the past 13 years sober (the gift given to me by Edgewood and 12 Step program) I greatly severed the great man and women of this country proud, I put on my uniform today proud of whom I am and the gift was given to me from people from Edgewood and the 12 step program that I attend. Without the foundation that Edgewood help me build, I would have not have been in the Persian Gulf twice, and Afghanistan. Honestly, the most disappointing experience of my life!!......and the most expensive. So after dumping 17,000 into Dredgewood as I call it, and days before I am to be discharged, I am literally booted out the door,due to my room mates nail polish being found in our room, with NO COMPASSION, NO CARE OR CONCERN AT ALL!......This place does not care about it's patients, it is merely a place to spend alot of your money....... and when they decide you have left your coffee cup in the wrong spot, or you have too much make up on, or you eat too much, they will ban you from entering their gift store, then they will kick you out because, as they say, YOU ARE NOT COMPLYING TO TREATMENT!.......Good luck seeing their on site Doctor, you will have to be pretty much on your death bed before getting in to see them.......They offer a gym as part of treatment, but you arent allowed to use it for the first 4 weeks your in there!.......and dont bother asking for any Phychiatric help, they'll tell you your fine and to focus getting in tune with your own feelings!!!..........Other inpatients can simply walk into your romm in the middle of the night, scaring you half to death with NO SECURITY.............They say they offer individualised treatment, but everyone is treated the same......truly disgraceful. I will never recommend anyone to this facility. Please go elsewhere and get the compassionate treatment you deserve..........cause believe me, you do deserve better............. read more

Recently I opted to check myself into this facility on my own and at my own expense. I felt I was consuming too much alcohol and was worried about my health. I arrived completely sober and was stripped and put into a detox room. I felt like i was treated like a drug addict off the street. At that point i should have left but was told i would lose my $10000.00 deposit. I was put in a detox room when i wasnt even detoxing and had another patient on street drugs thrown into my room late one nite and i had to clean his deficating results. That night i had to sleep on a couch in a chappel. Very unprofessional for $325 per day. This was only a part of my stay but on the day of my completion, they told me I had to stay for the night and in the morning they charged me $325.00 again for that day and told me to prepare my room for the next patient. Im still a bit in shock and they have no remorse as i tried to talk to them. I was told it was a private business and thats how things are done. I would never recommend this facility to anyone in need or in my case someone who thought it would be a good cause for my health and my family. This is only a small part of my story.
