I visit Austria frequently for business and come here almost every night. I have made this my nightly stop for the past several years and have never been disappointed. As with many Austrian resturaunts it is Cash only. It is also a "seat yourself" establishment. Waitstaff is extremely friendly and efficient. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Wonderful ice cream. I usually get the "Carmen " which is ricotta ice cream, raspberry puree and egg liquor. They have great coffee and kids ice cream as well. Many of the icecreams are art themselves, with towers of fruit, chocolate filigree etc. Easily accessible by both the U and the tram. In the summer tourist season it can get quite full and there maybe a wait. Reasonably priced. A ice cream and coffee costs about 11 euro read more

Unbelievable that in a modern and touristy city such as Vienna you have to pay with cash only for 3 ice creams and costing over 10 CHF. Inconceivable!!! Even in Italy you can pay with card at most places! Charge adding 0,10 cents for every ice cream to pay for the cost, figure it out, but don't be backwards! I had just arrived in Austria from the US, checked in to our Airbnb, went to eat and then the ice cream forced me to scramble for an ATM to get Francs while my family's ice cream melted. The ice cream was great even melted, but I would not go back just for this reason. Also, they charge for 0,50 for use if bathrooms, even though it would make sense for any customer with melted ice cream in their hands to seek a bathroom to wash hands. The 0,50 voucher does no good after paying for ice cream. I would avoid this place based on their business practices alone. read more

From the trolly I saw exactly what I was looking for... my afternoon gelato. The line told me I was in the right place. This is probably the largest gelatoria I have ever seen. In addition to the walk up counter, there is a full restaurant area serving large treats (many in martini glasses). I expected there would be many tourists down here near the river but it looked to include many families on this Sunday afternoon. The flavor selection is large and multiple options for servings. Great gelato and well located next to a U-Bahn station, many trolley stops, and shopping both tourist and regular. My wife and I each had the "small" gelato which is three generous sized balls. There are many flavors to choose from and the gelato is as rich and creamy as you can get anywhere. read more

Used to be by far my favourite, and whenever I went elsewhere I came back feeling silly I had strayed ... Their regular flavours are very good, almost all of them. All time favourites are the nougat, hazelnut, strawberry, and yoghurt or creme related flavours. In addition, they have a brilliant selection of daily specials that can become quite addictive. My favourites include avocado, matcha-tea, Greek Yoghurt, maracuja-coffee (amazingly and surprisingly good, considering I don't like passion fruit or coffee on their own), chillie-chocolate, and their raspberry-prosecco. Portion sizes depend a little on who's serving you but are generally decent. Recently there has been an addition of vegan flavours - not down my alley, I have to say. As that seems to eat into their other specials, that for me means one start less. They also have an amazing wild forest strawberry icecream as an occasional special which, however, is very expensive. Still, worth a try at least once when they have it. Still, one of my all-time favourite ice cream shops. In particular, most other places seem to use more sugar. If you're not familiar with the location, it's on Schwedenplatz right opposite the U4/U1-exit. read more

Prompt, friendly service and a wide array of flavors make this always a delightful stop. Make sure to check out their weekly seasonal flavors. When I was there in July, I tried the maroni (chestnut) and schokorange (chocolate-orange) flavors, which were both flavors of the week. The maroni had a deep roasted chestnut flavor and a somewhat thicker consistency than you'd expect, showing just how much of the chestnut meat they left in the eis. This is one of those FUN reviews I love writing.... Eissalon am Schwedenplatz is a mouthful to say, but it pales in comparison when it comes to stuffing your mouth with their sweet treats! Located on the Danube River on a busy-touristy street corner it is quite the spectacle. It is very easy to spot by the bright contrasting colors and retractable canopies covering the sidewalk tables. Tables do seem to turnover at a decent pace and the walk-up counter stays 3 to 5 people deep at all times. The walk up counter is where we purchased our Gelato bowl and waffle cone, but the tables were packed with people eating very fancy gelato creations, most served in long stem glasses or ornate glass bowls. It is a Vienna "sweetery" landmark along the Danube river... definitely worth a stop especially if you have kids! Be forewarned that they only have pay toilets and no wifi. There are many public benches nearby on the large wide sidewalk to people watch as you eat. Very cool...CASH ONLY! read more

Delicious gelato store right by the Schwedenplatz metro stop. The place is very unassuming compared to some flashy dessert shops elsewhere in the city but the huge line was a good sign to not ignore this shop. The place was packed with local students when we arrived at noon on a weekday. The line moves fast so we only waited a short while until we got our gelato. Location is convenient, ice cream is tasty and the staff is friendly. Today they had 2 special flavors (like they do everyday) in honor of the Eurovision song contest.
