Stopped by to use the restrooms. They were free. Remember in Europe you could pay to use the restroom unless you go into a bar or restaurant. Then we sat in the outdoor cafe area and ordered a cappuccino, a wiener kaffee which was an American coffee with cream, a torte and a apfelstrudel or apple strudel. The strudel was warm and delicious as was the torte. The price was reasonable and I appreciated the downtime we had from our tour. read more

Refreshing delicious gelato on a warm day - what a treat While my wife and I were in Vienna recently, we needed a snack and found Zanoni and Zanoni - especially when we saw they had gelato. They indeed had some incredibly delicious gelato. I had the Peach and my wife had the Apricot. They both exploded with incredible flavor. We each got 2 scoops and were pleasantly filled and cooled, and quite glad we stopped in. My only regret? I wish I had gotten 1 scoop of Coffee to go with my 1 scoop of Peach. Be sure to check them out yourself when you go - especially if you go when it's hot. read more

They are masters of crowd control here! Even though they are incredibly busy most of the time, the wait is consistently short. Service is very friendly and large, cold glasses of tap water are still FREE in a country where businesses charge up to a euro for a tiny glass of warm tap water. Zanoni has absolutely delicious ice cream. Being a seasoned American expat, I REALLY miss mint chocolate chip ice cream. Here at Zanoni I have found my saving grace: a scoop of dark chocolate with a scoop of mint, it's heaven. Ok, I really usually take 2 scoops of each, which is what you see in the picture below. During my stay in Vienna I became a bit of a gelato connoisseur. I spent a lot of time researching the best gelato in the city via eating gelato every day at every chance I had. My hard work paid off, for I was able to narrow it down to my two favorite spots, Zanoni & Zanoni being one of them. With 25 flavors, you will be overwhelmed with the options, and with all of them displayed right in front of you when ordering, it's going to be hard choosing just one flavor. Luckily, you can order up to three. My favorite combination was a scoop of blueberry and a scoop of apricot. The texture is so smooth and creamy, and each bite tastes like you're eating real fruit. Nothing artificial here! It's unreal of how good it is. Not sure about apricot gelato? My other contenders include banana and yoghurt. So far the best ice cream I've had in Vienna. Very large portions and quite cheap as well. Very large local with indoor and outdoor seating but be warned in summer you will struggle to find a table outside. Staff were friendly and quick, place was clean and airy. Good experience overall. read more

One of the BEST gelato places I've ever visited. I tried the hazelnut and nougat flavors which were very delicious. It was so good that I unabashedly returned half an hour after finishing my first cone to get another one. On the second round I tried Nutella which is probably the closest tasting thing to heaven that I would imagine. It had a nice vanilla cream base with literally globs of Nutella mixed in. 10/10 would recommend. read more

The creamiest and most flavorful ice cream you will ever taste. The Chocolate was incredible. While vacationing in Vienna, it was suggested we try the ice cream at Zanoni & Zanoni. It was a warm summer day in Vienna, so instead of ordering a cone, we sat down on one of the available seats outside. Even though it was very crowded, we had no problem finding an empty seat. I ordered three scoops (Chocolate, Coffee) and let the waiter select the third scoop. He selected Biscotti which ended up going well with my other flavors. I have rarely tasted ice cream so creamy and flavorful. When I return to Vienna, I would probably have three scoops of Chocolate! read more

My advice is to believe the hype. I ate gelato or ice cream over forty times in my forty-day trip to Europe. What I experienced at Zanoni & Zanoni was, hands down, the most perfect frozen dairy I will ever taste. It was soft, but in no way resembling a whipped texture. how is it feasible that germany makes better gelato than italy? at least that's what it felt like at zanoni & zanoni. after a long day of walking around under the blazing sun, gelato sure feels refreshing. for only 3 euros, you can get a small cup that can be filled with up to 3 flavors. they don't skimp on the amount they give you of each flavor, either. they pile that baby up high on your small cup, making every euro worth it. i wish every gelateria was as generous and delicious as this one. there's an extremely large outdoor seating area (canopied, of course). the servers are all super friendly and speak english really well. and there's these colorful and cute displays that are made out of the waffle cones and paper cups they use to scoop your gelato into. my favorites were the stracciatella and the nocciola, but the berry flavors are equally scrumptious. read more

As far as ice cream parlours go, this is ok. It is very touristy but serves good ice cream and desserts and has a lot of outdoor seating in the summer. The inside also has a lot of seating, including a separate smoking area. It markets itself as being open 365 days a year so if for some reason you fancy ice cream on Christmas Day in Vienna you know where to go! It isn't my preferred ice cream parlour, but if you're passing then why not try it out! read more

We thought that was only because of its convenient location in the centre of town, but on a hot evening we decided to try out their ice cream and were not disappointed. Some people give this place a hard rap, but it would have to be one of the most reliable places in the center of the city. Very affordable. Very fast service. Easy to pay. Hundreds of places to seat over 3 levels, plus outside in the summer. Smoking area on level -2, which is actually maybe the nicest area to sit. Ice Cream and deserts are fantastic. The place looks busy and cheerful but my two star review Is due to the disappointing Ice cream. As a real ice cream buff, I opt to conclude restaurant meals with the best desert I prefer, a really good, often Italian, ice cream. After finishing a local dinner near by I looked for a proper desert. As it was late the fist two options around the area were close and since this is an Italian cafe I felt confident while looking at the large set of options. I chose a dark chocolate scoop and topped it with another scoop, this time an Amaretto one. Cheerful went to pay for it while having the first bite... What a disappointment. The amaretto was way too light, nothing like an Italian scoop should be and overly sweet. The chocolate was better but still not something to write home about. To conclude, it may be a nice place to sit for coffee but go to one of the other options around for ice cream. read more

While buying a local sim from T-Mobile (data only sim is 10 Euro for 10 GB), we asked the woman helping us which gelato place we should try. I'd researched Eis-Greissler, but we wanted a local's opinion. So we got something from both places! We didn't sit down to enjoy our ice cream, but Zanoni has a huge seating area which seems like a great place to relax. We got two flavors: stracciatella and chocolate. Both were delicious. The ice cream is super fatty in a good way and it doesn't take a lot to satisfy (not to say you won't finish the whole thing). Eis-Greissler just didn't have the same creaminess and intensity of flavor, but it's still very popular and only 2.50 euro, so it's worth a try if you're curious. read more

I am sorry to say that but I am not a huge Fan of Zanoni & Zanoni. This place is full the whole time, and personally I don't understand why. The Ice cream is OK, but not overwhelming, but you get a whole load of OK-ice-cream. the service is rute and slow, if you drop some words italian they might turn into nice and caring, but when it comes to the rest of us, you are just "machined off". Last time I was there, the chocolate sauce of my friends ice cup was missing, she needed to ask two waiters for a replacement, but instead of giving it to her and saying they are sorry, first one was telling us the cups are not supposed to be like on the pictures in the menue they are just pictures (hmm I wonder why somebody makes the effort to put pics in a menue when the actual thing is not supposed to be like it), the next one was just annoyed by her question but brought her some with another bill of 90cents. read more

After trying a frozen yogurt place across the street offering only a single flavour, we noticed people walking around with multi flavour scoops from this place. We made sure this ice cream place was on our must visit list for the next night. They offer a wide variety of selection of various types of ice cream at affordable prices. They speak English well also so if you are looking for a particular flavour, it is best just to ask. The ice cream itself is creamy and delicious and despite the colder weather of winter in Vienna, it did not lessen the popularity of this place one bit. I would definitely go back. One downside that I was not as happy with was that they have an adjoining business which is obviously all part of the same business which is more of a cafe however if you purchased ice cream versus coffee, you could not sit down in the huge seating area, you must stand outside. My wife and I arrived in Vienna one evening between Christmas and New Year's, and threw ourselves out into the brightly lit night with no idea of where we'd end up. After wandering by St. Stephens Cathedral, we ended up a few streets later in front of Zanoni & Zanoni, with a _very_ attractive window display filled with pastries. It was obviously time for our first apple strudel! We were tired, and in no mood to spend time sitting in a restaurant eating, so we ordered two slices to take away, and continued our wandering. Back at the hotel, we dug in, and I found a strudel that ended up being one of my favorites from our Vienna trip. My wife, however, told me that the attributes I most liked about it -- a density to the filling and a heaviness to the wrapping -- are the opposite of what a good strudel should be, feeling more like a pie. So what do I know! But I'd definitely go back for another slice, preferably seated in the restaurant, so it could be warm -- and mitt schlag! The place was hopping even at around 9:30 at night on the Thursday after Christmas, so it's obviously popular. Unfortunately, I can't speak to the entirety of the Zanoni & Zanoni experience -- just that one slice of apple strudel. But it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Good food and sweets but they are rude rude rude!This restaurant was located next to our hotel and planned on visiting often but we didn't because of the unbelievably disrespectful and rude people and quite frankly it's like most places in Vienna (you'll see!) First day we had breakfast and food was good but staff is just like most other places in Vienna and what we expected. The next day we stopped in for a piece of cake at the takeaway counter, oh my goodness the older man working the counter was the winner of the most rude arrogant pathetic person we met in Vienna. We ordered cake at the takeaway counter. he firmly told us how much it was but neither one of us could hear what he was saying because it was so loud and busy at the counter. He got very angry with us I'm guessing he thought we didn't understand him speaking German so he angrily walks away comes back with a printed ticket leans over the counter and puts it right to our face and then throws our change on the counter and walks away.
