We tried this place as we came out of a movie. I didn't have much expectation from a casual mall restaurant, but it turned out to be decent. This place was pretty crowded and we shared a communal table with two more groups. Pad Thai I'd give 5 stars for the noodles! It had a very nice chewy texture... and the prawns were crisp. I really liked it. Penang Laksa My boyfriend ordered it and he enjoyed the soup very much, but it was too spicy for me. He did say, though, the egg noodle is too soft and he'd rather stick with the other vermicelli noodle. Prawn Dumplings The crystal shrimp dumplings were good, except it came with sweet sauce. I'd rather dip them in sour sauce with shredded ginger, the kind used for Taiwanese style dim sum.

A good choice for a pre-cinema meal. Reasonably priced and food's not bad. It also arrives surprisingly quickly!

Affordable and tasty. Worth trying less popular meals, they won't let you down!

Others I was eating with had: the sweet and sour pork which is usually my very worst dish on any menu, but this one wasn't bad at all.

Bayee Village has been producing reliable, tasty Chinese food in Wimbledon for decades and there is a sister restaurant in Putney. The decor is great, from the 2 stone lions guarding the entrance to the large fish tank and Chinese lanterns inside. You are also always assured of a warm welcome and better service than in many Chinatown restaurants. The food is a mixture of Peking (north) and Szechuan (southwest) cuisine. The house speciality is seafood and if your budget can stretch, you won't be disappointed with the lobster and spring onion on a bed of crispy noodles, steamed whole sea bass with ginger and spring onion, kung po king prawns with sweet chilli sauce and garlic and soft shell crab with fresh chilli pepper and garlic salt. The other non seafood dishes are also good. A good solid local Chinese restaurant.

It was fresh, full of flavours and it even felt as though i was eating healthy food! I had a gorgeous aubergine dish that was gorgeous and their crispy duck was really tasty as well as their cashew nut dishes. We had some really nice wine here as well. The decor is quite strange, with a classic piano and aquarium in the restaurant but i guess it gave us something to look at while we waited...and we were waiting for quite a while...maybe this is a good sign as it made me think everything was being cooked freshly from scratch, otherwise they were just being really slow. The service of the waiters was a little on the slow side but luckily we weren't in a rush. The prices were all pretty reasonable as well. I will return if i'm in the area.

Don't be put off though, because inside it's a proper old fashioned restaurant with white napkins and tablecloths. They don't do dim sum any more, but have a familiar Chinese menu with Szechuan specialities, including some of the more challenging spicy offal dishes. But there are plenty of familiar favourites for the less adventurous. It's frequented by local Chinese families, which is always a good sign. Staff are friendly and efficient. Expect two courses with coffee and wine to be about £25-30 a head.

The dim sum menu has only restarted in the last year and a half when they got in a new chef. The service is always prompt and courteous. Kids will be fascinated by the large fish tank and water wheel feature. The preponderence of Chinese clientele tells its own story - we are very fussy when it comes to food. The food is of good quality, quantity and ingredients - large prawns in har gau and cheong fun, crispy pastry for the char siew sow and lovely roasted meats. The food isn't greasy, a common problem for lower quality dim sum places. The pastry skins are all thin for the steamed dishes and crispy for the fried dishes. They lose a star for a slightly small menu with some old favourites missing like siu loong bow and shark fin dumpling. Also, they used to serve suckling pig and it's still on the menu but no longer available. They also do an evening menu but I can't really comment on that. It's a great place for dim sum and what they do have on the menu is first class.
