Hidden gem in the cusp of Manresa…read more We came out here for a quick bite to eat as we explored the area. We had the meal of the day, which consisted of a starter, a main, a drink and a dessert. First off, we weren't expecting too much because the meal was not expensive. But soon, we received an amuse bouche of of an avocado salsa (on the house) that set us on a different path. From then on, as each course came out, we were pleasantly surprised by the fresh and interesting take the chef had for each dish that came out. My first course was a fish salad - two ways. The first way was a simple tuna salad with tomatoes, onions and lettuce. The second was anchovy, pimiento and lettuce. Over both salads was a mustard vinaigrette that was a wonderful foil for the briny taste of the seafood. My second course was essentially a paella with mushrooms, pimiento, garlic, and asparagus. It was quite good with just enough crunchy bits on the bottom of the pan. For dessert, I had what looked like an eclair but was anything but. It was a light and fluffy choux pastry topped with a berry compote, cream, and a liquid dark chocolate. This sounds like a heavy dessert but it is anything but. Must-try! I also got to try the grilled steak, served with Belgian style skinny fries, garlic aioli and creamy pimiento aioli. I would suggest choosing the chicken or the ribs because those tasted even better. We got free drinks with our meal too - it was part of the meal of the day. To complete the experience, the chef himself came out to see how we were doing and how we liked the food. The best part of the meal was that it was only 12.50 Euro per person. We could not fathom how we could get a meal that good for so little. MUST VISIT IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA!

With reservations a must, six of us finally got to try La Picara. There are a variety of tapas, ponchos and raciones on their menu. We tried a lot of them, and everything was delicious with the possible exception of Sepia a la Plancha, grilled squid which was too tough and chewy. Do NOT neglect to see their "Suggeriments fora de Carta" on a chalkboard. Most every off-the-chart suggestion we tried was exceptional, with my favorite actually being Tomaquets de Temporada amp Burratina í old D'Alfabrega. This was probably the best Burrata and Tomatoes serving I've ever tasted. It must be their spiced basil oil. The other standout special was a delicious Pintxo de Foie a la Plantxa, luxurious grilled foie gras skewer. A couple of drag queens came in promoting their show. They were a hoot at our table. Paola, the owner, was so kind and gracious. Service was fantastic. La Picara is definitely a must try during your time in Sitges!

Tonight we want a change from the hotel and elected to catch a cab into Figueres to dine at Sidreria Txots Figueres. We want a town restaurant and to explore the area. 15 minute taxi ride and we arrived in Figueres at Sidreria Txots for dinner. The place has EDM music and feels like a hip, young person spot. We got a window table to people watch and perused the menu. The Iberico ham croquetts were first with a perfect crunch, soft and savory inside. The mango, pickled onions, stracciatella cheese and lettuce salad had a lime dressing. The flavors were bold, crispy and sweet with mango. An enjoyable treat. Our next selection was the calamari a la planca that was perfectly grilled, drizzled with olive oil and lightly salted. It had a good taste, not overcooked and great charred marks. This was another good choice. Our final selection was the 1/2 grilled pulpo a la braso octopus. This was a huge helping for only one half of an octopus. It was good, just a large portion. The staff was very helpful with the English menu and answering questions. They directed us to where the town square was and the super market. Sidreria Txots Figueres was a decent stop but more of a younger, hipper spot than a quiet relaxing environment. The food was still good. It appears with the crowd dining there that Txots is here to stay.

While the restaurant does not look super fancy, it's got a pleasant atmosphere and a nice decor. We walked over around 6:15, which is early for dinner, even for us. The server explained that they had some tapas available, but the kitchen didn't open until 7. We said we'd be back and he booked us a table on the spot. (lucky us as they had a party of 16 locals and the remaining tables were booked except ours!) We wandered to another place for an outside glass of wine while we waited. At 7, we went back and explained Uncle D's shellfish allergy to Mark, our server and asked about recommendations for things we might try that would work for the allergy. He was so kind and advised against certain items that had shellfish or were cooked in the same oil as shellfish. Bless him! We shared the tapas of a pulled pork sandwich, (in a small bun), and a cheese plate with cubes of cheese in olive oil with black salt flakes, and finished with sharing a main course of oxtail, which we were told takes 32 hours to make! All were delicious and we were thrilled we had gone there. The second and final night in Barcelona we were tired, didn't want to have to figure out where to go that might not be too close and decided to go back. This time we booked a table about 45 minutes before we wanted to be there. Lucky there was a table for 2! When we walked in, we were recognized and greeted like family! Mark even remembered our names, shellfish allergy and the wine we had enjoyed the night before which we wanted again. We ordered the same cheese tapas as it was so delicious, along with the chorizo casserole in apple cider, with a main course of the sirloin steak with potatoes and padron peppers. The steak dish was brought out before the chorizo dish accidentally. We opted at that point to have the chorizo dish after. Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, potatoes crispy outside and soft inside and the padron peppers tasty but mild. Again, absolutely delicious! By the time we were halfway through the steak dish, we knew we had no room in our tummies for the chorizo dish. We asked if it was possible to cancel the chorizo dish, but if they had already started cooking it then it would be ok. Mark was gracious and canceled it for us. At the end of the meal, Mark brought us a glass of a local liqueur that was wonderful. The food, the service, the atmosphere... and both nights local folks enjoying along with tourists, all fabulous. All that to say... if you have the chance to go to this wonderful restaurant, do it!

This was recommended by friends awhile back, I remembered the modern ambiance, amazing Tapas, friendly service and the place was as busy then until now. The fact that even after a decade, it's rare that I go back to the same spot let alone they're still around after all these years. You already know that tells a lot and I feel bad for those who didn't have the same great experience, hope they give it another shot. See y'all soon! Salut, Vermouth!
