Great and imaginative menu. Cute spot. Didn't have reservations so sat at the bar. Was met by a super friendly bartender that took good care of us. Menu was thru a QR code...ugh! But luckily they provided an iPad with the menu loaded so it came in a larger format. Started with a Cops de Garcia red wine, then a Gillis con bacalao, followed by a duck paella and a carrier's de cardo. All were delicious with presented beautifully. Each dish had subtle and unique flavors that blended well together. The portions were on the small side but great nonetheless. An enjoyable evening!
We came in for dinner and although we did not have a reservation, they are able to take us without a wait. The place is small and feels like you're walking through a labyrinth. It has a very intimate feel, and they have interesting photography and artwork on display. Our server was friendly and was able to give great recommendations about the menu. One of my favorite things was that the wine menu is on a tablet, you can select the wine and read about the various notes and see what foods will pair well with it. Based on the server's recommendations, we ordered the duck and mushroom paella along with the classic seafood paella. The duck mushroom paella was so delicious and flavorful. I think we should have tried the seafood paella first, since it seemed underwhelming after eating the mushroom duck paella. The tortilla de Betanzo was simple and delicious. The scallops were accompanied by an amazing sauce, that left me wanting more. For dessert, we ordered the tarta de queso ahumado, such unique and well blended flavors. The food was a bit pricey but the quality was great.
This eatery blew me away with the authentic taste and quality that I expected. Brandon (calbo) was our waiter,server, jokester, and overall great guy. We ordered a number of specialties and they ALL were on point and soooo delicious. The restaurant was not crowded so we lucked out or perhaps maybe because it happened to be a Sunday. Will eat here again when in BCN.
Arume is one of the popular spots in Barcelona for paella, but specifically the duck paella. It's special because you don't often find a duck paella on the menu. Be aware that you don't get the socarrat (crispy bottom) that many paellas have, but the flavor itself is still worthwhile. The restaurant is located along some "sketchy" alleys, but just head straight here and out. Once inside, it's led into multiple rooms into the back that feels like an underground cave. To start off, we had some Bread (€1.50), Butifa Croquettes (€3/pcs), and Bay Scallop (€7.50/pcs). The bread came with a tube of olive oil, which was pretty cool way to be served. The croquette and scallop were both good, although quite pricey for each item. For main entrees, we shared the Iberian Pork (€22.50) and Duck Paella (€18.50). Both of these dishes were incredibly flavorful and delicious. The sauce on the dish was savory and this meat was so tender. The paella was also full of flavor balanced with the cream mixture. It's more similar to a porridge consistency, but still so tasty. This dish is just so unique that you need to try it for yourself. Overall, delicious food, dim-lit environment, and friendly customer service. It's a pricier meal, but everything we had was delicious.
I was responsible for locking a great dinner for my last night in BCN. Yelp reviews looked promising, but this place topped all expectations. Service was great, but the food? Oh my. The fish in the ceviche was a tender as sushi, perfectly marinated with a nice combination in pomegranate and corn nut crunches. The scallop in corn was one of may favorite dishes I've eaten in forever. The seafood paella was a perfect as I could have hoped. I would go back in a heartbeat if I wasn't thousands of miles away now.
The service here was so wonderful. We loved Emmy! The location is not great and it was hard to find the place, but worth looking for. We tried the octopus and the tortilla de patata and liked both. We loved the duck paella! We also had the marisco paella but two out of four of us did not love it. Overall it was great and we'd love to come back!
One of the highest Yelp ranked places in Barcelona and I know why. The food is delicious, the staff are full of smiles and the price is very reasonable. It's a cute restaurant with a warm environment as soon as you walk in. Items we tried: scallop- wow, fresh and they top it off with something crunchy with a little sauce. Fantastic! Duck paella - first time eating duck paella and absolutely delicious! Bread - bread is fresh and great tasting olive oil to go with it. Simple yet delicious.
Skip this place. First time in Barcelona, super excited to try seafood Paella in Spain. Worst paella I've ever had, flavor was awful. Also worst and most expensive meal I had in Barcelona. We had a paella cooking class scheduled elsewhere that week, I was going to cancel thinking if this is what Paella tastes like in Spain no thanks, thankfully the paella we made in class was delicious, thus confirming it's just this place that has bad paella. I think people see the good reviews and feel bad leaving an honest one, but it was so disappointing I feel it's only fair to honestly warn others because we wish we skipped this place. Also Sangria is flavorless due to being watered down.
One of the best meals I had in Barcelona. There are so many tapas and paella spots that it's hard to find one that really stands out, but I was wrong. Everything I had at Arume stood out. From the layout of the place (there was clear glass over a well that you walk over as decoration) to the music choices, the vibes were just on par. We asked the waiter to choose a white and red for us that she recommended. Each bottle she chose for us was delicious and right on the nose of what we had wanted. Appetizers -- We got the baked scallops (comes 2 per order) and the calamari. Both were flavorful and delicious. Main course -- Get the duck paella! If nothing else, I hope you at least try that. The duck paella is nothing I had like before. There were duck chunks, the flavor was on point and not too salty, and the cream on top helps balance out the flavors. The waiter said it was a single person portion, but we weren't too hungry and had order a lot of apps, along with fried pumpkin, that it was just the right size for 4 people. Dessert -- We were recommended the cheesecake brulee. It was not too sweet, nice and fluffy. Highly recommend making reservations to this place if you're traveling to Barcelona!
Contrary to popular opinion, Arume was pretty mediocre to me. Perhaps I had high expectations for this and it fell short of my expectations or I just ordered the wrong items. I may have not been impressed with my meal here, but other than that the service and hospitality made my experience quite pleasant. We made reservations for 8pm on a Wednesday night. Upon arrival, I was relieved we made reservations because the restaurant seemed rather small, but we soon found out that there's an extensive back area to the restaurant. We ordered the octopus tempura, ceviche, seafood paella and 2 drinks to share. I didn't love the texture of both the ceviche and octopus, but the shining factor of both dishes were the sauces drizzled on top of it. They really elevated the dish much more and helped the flavors of the seafood shine. A lot of people recommended the duck paella, but we opted for seafood paella just because of personal preference. Maybe that's where we went wrong, because I thought the paella was just average. The drinks, on the other hand, were delicious! I would come back here just for the blackberry mojito.
We were SO excited to try this, but had an odd experience. The octopus appetizer was pre-cooked; I know this because the flavor was excellent but it was barely warm AND lightly fried. I even had a cold bite. The scallop I received was raw. The second one tasted like vanilla instead of truffle. The croquet was nice but I personally did not care for the flavor. The duck paella was actually not good- too little duck, too rich. Maybe it's me- I did not enjoy the flavor at all. The wine tablet was very cool; lots of details on the wines; loved that! The ambiance was just weird. I felt scared walking away from the restaurant- creepy guys walking around and women in full burkas. I don't know what has happened to this area of town, but I no longer feel safe here. I don't understand how this place is so well regarded on TripAdvisor or here. Beautiful little restaurant with very unique and artsy decor. The staff were attentive, informative, and FUN! Lots of energy, jokes, and great vibes. The food was also fantastic. The stars were definitely the braised leeks and scallops. The butter garlic sauce on the scallops was so delicious I want it injected in my veins. The iberico pork was crazy tender and full of flavor. The duck paella was probably my least favorite - surprising because I love paella. Don't get me wrong, the flavor was still great. But it's saucier than a traditional paella and I don't really prefer my duck shredded. But it was a strong swing from away a classic paella. Overall just a wonderful experience. read more

Duck Paella hands down over the seafood. It had a salty, fatty, mildly sweet flavor and was cooked to perfection. Service was excellent, warm, and hospitable. Ambiance was on the darker side. Wooden and rustic with a cabin fire type feel. read more
I was going through my camera roll from summer in Spain and had to write a review for this place. I loved this place and wish there was a location in the United States. This place has amazing food that is made with comfort and care. All dishes were outstanding and I could not choose which dish I liked the most. We ordered tapas and paella. The staff was so friendly and hardworking. We had the opportunity to meet the owner and he has an amazing story on how this place started. The ambiance is cozy and surprising quite a bit of seating. I would definitely recommend this place and come back as soon as a I go back to Spain. read more

This is a cute tapas bar in a gritty part of town. It looks small at first glance, but there are a few additional rooms in the back. I had the seared tuna and fried octopus appetizers. Both were pretty good, but I thought the yuzu parmentier that came with the fried octopus had a funny taste and was unnecessary (1 star off). The grilled giant scallop was my favorite, as it had a ton of flavor and the sweet corn crema on top added a nice touch. The duck and mushroom paella had a wonderful umami flavor, but had very few pieces of duck and lacked the crispy bottom for a great paella (1 star off). The smoked cheesecake was just okay -- I did not detect any smoke flavor and it seemed days old. Overall, it was a nice place for lunch if you are in the area, but with all the tapas bars around, I probably would not make a special trip here. read more

What a stellar resturant! We came here to try their duck paella and I have to say, I was not disappointed. I booked a reservation on their website before coming. We got the grilled octopus which I thought was ok - my boyfriend loved eating it with their bread (which was super soft and yummy I have to say). We ordered both the seafood and duck paella. Seafood was ok but the duck was DELICIOUS! It had a different umami flavor which I loved. Highly recommend ordering their blackberry mojito - it was so refreshing and sweet! We ended off the meal with the cheesecake which I thought was ok. Not my cup of tea but it was nice to try. The service here was amazing. They frequently checked in with us and asked us if we needed anything. Highly recommend checking this place out! read more

Came here based on the other Yelp reviews. The restaurant has more seatings in the back. Ordered the duck paella as based on the other Yelp reviews. TBH, it's a little bit too heavy to eat. The scallops are really good, highly recommend them. The octopus was fried, not the raw ones that I was thinking. Interesting window to look down at the skeleton. The service is friendly and accommodating. read more
Believe the hype. First night in Barcelona and based on the reviews, we made a reservation. Everything, and I mean everything we ate was divine. Do not leave without ordering the scallop appetizer, chorizo croquettes, and ahi tuna. Arume is known for its duck paella, which was smoky and complex, but missing the duck, which didn't bother me, but the men in our party complained that eat bite was devoid of duck. The lamb was firm tender and the hazelnut cookie dessert was light and not too sugary. An excellent dining experience! One of the best by far. One if the best tapas places in Barcelona, along with its sister restaurant Cera 23. Pros - delicious tapas with a wide breath of flavor profiles. My favorite was their scallops and codfish. The duck and seafood paella were also super delicious. The portion sizes for the paella is small for 2-3 people so make sure to order accordingly as it takes 30-40 minutes to prepare paella. Cons - none! For sure to check out this place. So many tapas to try and you won't regret it! read more
Definitely make a reservation to eat here! We had a 7pm Rez and so did about 30 others.... There was a line at 6:50 before they opened. It's small and definitely what I'd call a hidden gem in a low key, working class part of town. It was about a 15 minute walk from the Kimpton Vividora in the Gothic Quarter to give some perspective. Everything is delicious. Most notably the duck paella which I think is their specialty. I wanted to lick the skillet, but opted instead to scrape it as much as I could with the spoon. I'm not sure how they do it, but it's so flavorful and savory and comforting. It's a good thing I live on the other side of the world, otherwise I'd be here all the time eating duck paella. We also enjoyed their house made bread served with amazing olive oil, ceviche and turbot. Ohh.... and the hubs really enjoyed the oysters. Said they were better than the ones in Vigo. Wines.... They have a nice selection by the glass of you don't feel like having a bottle. And their sangria looked amazing too. (The table next to us got it and raved.) While I was too full, their desserts look really good too. So basically, you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Service was very good, and I will definitely eat here again whenever I find myself in Barcelona. read more

Seriously one of the best meals I've ever had in my life! The place is cool, with a super chill atmosphere. It's in a diverse neighborhood with lots of immigrants from all over. Our server, who is Filipino and hilarious, made the experience all that much better. But honestly, all of the staff were awesome and it wouldn't have mattered because the food was unbelievably delicious, innovative, and unique. We had the mussels, which were delicious, the ceviche, which was so fresh and amazing, and the scallops, which were the single BEST thing I ate in Barcelona (which is saying A LOT because everything I ate in Barcelona was amazing)! the Butifarra Croquettes were also amazing!!! Overall though, I came here our of curiousity for the duck paella. I love duck and I LOVE paella. The first bite, it all made sense. The flavors were prefect together. It was an unbelievable melding of chinese roast duck and paella that some genius dreamed up. The meal was amazing and a truly life-changing experience all the way through. The atmosphere and service were really a cherry on top of one of the best, most inventive meals I've ever eaten and at a super affordable price (under 100 euros out the door with two bottles wine and all of the food we ordered). read more

Tucked away on an unassuming side street in one of Barcelona's more international areas, Arume is a seemingly tiny neighborhood spot. However, don't let the modest entrance fool you - this is truly a foodie destination! The inside of the restaurant is much larger than the exterior lets on - you enter an area with a bar, and the host takes your name down if you don't have a reservation. At 7:10pm on a Friday night, we got there right after they opened without a reservation, and waited about ten minutes for a table - it was already getting crowded ten minutes after opening! We then proceeded to walk through a narrow corridor into a more spacious dining area with a loft-style second floor to accommodate more people. We were seated on the second floor, which had four tables that were very cramped into each other - while this wasn't a comfortable setup in the least, it showed us that this restaurant is very popular, and we were able to observe the rustic, almost farmhouse-like vibe of the space, with a low-key but buzzy ambience. Our server was kind and knowledgeable, and made some great recommendations for us after we scanned the QR code to access the menu. We started our meal with their Uncle Walter's Ceviche (€13,50), which is wild bass ceviche (raw fish cured with citrus) with leche de tigre, pomegranate, and avocado emulsion. The bass was simultaneously and addictively luscious and light, and we found ourselves wishing there was more of it (though it was a good portion of fish for the price) - we also liked the citrus-based marinade that it was in, though we wished it were a bit less salty. The peanuts that garnished the dish added a great crunch for textural contrast! Of course, we had to get their Duck Paella (€17,50, one of their specials!) as well as their Arume-Style Galician Seafood Paella (€17,50). The Duck Paella, served with mushrooms, roasted garlic foam and Padrón peppers, was truly a delight to eat. The garlic foam added a depth of flavor to the sticky rice that is indescribable, and the duck was tender and moist. Of course, Padrón peppers are very popular in Spain, and these had become almost braised in the garlicky duck sauce. Our only qualm with the dish is that we wish there was more duck! The Seafood Paella was solid if not stellar - the seafood was cooked perfectly, and the rice wasn't overly mushy nor undercooked, though we felt as though it was missing the distinctive saffron flavor that really completes a traditional Spanish paella. For both paellas, we felt as though they were good portions for a fine dining restaurant! Our server recommended we order the Marinated Iberian Presa Fillet (€21,50), which came with Galician Potato Millefeuille and Bacon. We had a lot of pork dishes in Spain, but this was truly the most delicious one we tried. The pork had an incredible melt-in-your-mouth texture, and we loved the fact that it was only lightly seasoned, as you could really taste the high quality of the meat. The Galician Potato Millefeuille was unique and beautifully crafted, with fine layers of potato, almost like a light scalloped potato dish. We thought the bacon would be gratuitous, but it added a nice crunch to the softer textures of the dish. While this isn't the cheapest or largest entree, the pork is so good that it's well worth the price. Lastly, our server recommended their special Smoked Cheesecake (€6) made with their DO San Simón Galician cheese. This was unlike any other cheesecake I've had before - the filling verges on the edge of savory with just a hint of sweetness, and the smokiness reminds me of a smoked Gouda that I once had in France - this was utterly delectable, and we couldn't stop eating it. The crust at the bottom is just hardened enough, and buttery with a touch of crunchiness - perfect to pair with the rich creaminess of the filling, and it is finished off with a lovely dollop of ice cream over what seemed to be graham cracker crumbs. For €6 (which is much less than most desserts in America at fine dining establishments), this was truly a unique, decadent dessert! Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Arume. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient (all of our food came out within fifteen minutes), the atmosphere was perfect (if a bit crowded for my liking up in the loft area), and the food was absolutely delicious - pricey, but a must-visit for foodies searching for an upscale dining experience in Barcelona! I took my family here to celebrate Father's Day and it was the best meal I had in Barcelona! The place did not look big from the outside, but there was a bar inside and if you continue walking further in there is a dining area downstairs as well as upstairs, and if you look down on the floor there is a space with a very deep glass covered hole in the bottom of the restaurant which I assume to be a historical area that they comically added a fake skeleton in (I found this quite charming actually and gives the restaurant character!). We were seated upstairs and our server Brando was very attentive. I believe he is the manager of the area as well, and I admired his hard work as he helped to take orders, clean, and entertain the guests! He would run back and forth prepping the tables while giving out orders to his staff. Now on to the food: I loved everything we had!! We had ceviche as an appetizer which was very refreshing. The duck paella stood out. It was delicious and I wish I ordered more, although we had 2 other dishes that were good as well. We also ordered 3 desserts. The cheesecake was good, not too sweet, which my family and I prefer. This restaurant had such character along with their staff, and their food was also unique and creative as well! I highly recommend this place. What is most important is that my dad had a great Father's Day meal (although fun fact: I learned that the Spanish celebrated on a different day than us Americans). read more

Don't usually write bad reviews but there's way too many 5 star reviews which made me come here. And I felt the need to provide another perspective. A couple reasons for 3 stars - duck paella consistency was mushy, barely a scrap of duck, and tasted like a weak teriyaki sauce broth. Single scallop was 7 euros and the single croquette was 5 which is overpriced compared to what else you can get elsewhere. They charge you for a cup of wine which is fine but contrary to another post. And the server was nice but kept trying to upsell me on the water when I asked for tap water. Tip scale on their machine was set a bit high as defaults. All signs of the success and start of a tourist trap which I know wasn't the case before. The food wasn't bad, but I talked with the tables around me and nobody else seemed to be having the best meal of their life either. read more

Arume came highly recommended for us from friends. Unfortunately, I did not think it met the hype that people gave us. We had a reservation when it opened at 7PM, but we walked from our hotel and was slightly late. I highly recommend you do NOT walk here at night. The neighborhood is sketchy, luckily when we were walking it was still light out. Anywho, we were slightly tardy (around 7:05PM) and we waited by the bar area to get sitted. By the time the host actually greeted us, it was over 10 minutes later. He told us that he had given our table away since they stop honoring reservations after 15 minutes. However, we were there.....they just didn't greet us in a timely fashion. Nevertheless, he still sat us. There's Wi-Fi at the restaurant - which you'll likely need if you didn't get a sim card with internet since the menu is a QR code. This was our last meal in Barcelona, and unfortunately, it just wasn't as eventful as every meal we had beforehand. -Ceviche: This was good, comparable to other restaurants we had, but I'm also a sucker for ceviche, so it's hard for me to say a ceviche is bad. -Duck Rice: Way too salty, the duck flavor was there, but so was a bucket of salt. -Seafood paella: This was less salty, so I preferred it. However, the shellfish was not properly cleaned and I could taste sand and grit from the shellfish in the dish. There also was a lack of saffron in the dish, which......it's paella. -Panna cotta: This was good! I liked it, but for most other meals, we never got dessert since we were full. So, that kinda speaks to the portion sizes here (more "European" than other places?) Honestly with how sketch the neighborhood is, you're better off not coming. The food is not worth it. When we were leaving, there were cops and sirens everywhere - NOT a good sign. You'll also realize that Taxis will refuse to put you at the front door of the restaurant - also not a good sign when locals refuse to go to a specific area. Lastly, Barcelona isn't know for paella, so perhaps go for a different type of food. read more
I was looking for a restaurant around the area and this place popped up. It was located in a sketchy area, where there were no tourists, keep this in mind if you do come here at night. I came right at opening and I was seated right away. I ordered the duck paella which was their most popular dish and I wanted to order the blackberry mojito but the waitress told me their bartender doesn't come until like 2pm so I just got a sangria. I thought the paella was really good, especially with the white sauce mixed in. Definitely one of my favorite meals in Barcelona and I recommend trying this restaurant if you're in the area! read more

After spending some time looking for a place for me and my son to have dinner, I found this spot on yelp. It's down a street that feels like a tucked away alley and looks fairly unassuming from the outside. We had reservations for 7pm (I know early for Spain but it was the only timeslot available). We had several apps, drinks and then the duck paella and fillet for our entrees. This meal was so terrifically good. The paella was perfectly spiced and I ate every bite. My son loved his fillet and said it was cooked perfectly. Our drinks (the sangria and a blackberry mojito) were great as well. Not overly sweet. This was a real gem of a find! read more
Pleasantly surprised by Arume. The looks on the outside might fool you but inside, it is very retro and cozy. It also is more spacious on the inside then one might think. My favorite here is the duck paella. The rich creaminess from the duck fat and sauce they put gave it the extra pizazz compared to standard paellas. The drinks here were strong and delicious. Not the experience I was looking for. The first time that I have been to this establishment. I really wanted paella and this place had some good reviews so I tried it. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because the staff was very nice. The food, not so much. I did order the paella and it was underwhelming. The shrimp was so over cooked that I could not separate tit from the shell. 8 shrimp gone to waste. The rice was so undercooked that it was crunchy. This is a quaint place though. By the time I left it was packed with people. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day. The ambiance is amazing, just wish the food would have been better. read more

Duck Paella is...the best Paella? Lets rewind. Friday night. Arume opens at 7:00. We get there at 7:30PM. We enter. Full house. But our faces of disappointment catches a guy with a bandana. He ponders and then wonders to the back with an ever slight reassurance that he may have a table for us. And sure enough, he came through. He signaled for us to follow him to the back through this spanish hipster like hallway. He let us know that he was going to have the host help us out. We greatly thanked him and shortly was sitting down at a table with no reservation. Now my recommendation if you do decide to come here is that you don't do what I just did. Make a reservation, or face your doom. And if you don't make a reservation you better get there right when they open because it fills up fast. I also want to touch on this mysterious bandanna fellow because his actions were exactly how each worker there treated us; like a family. It didn't matter that our original waitress was helping another table. Another one from another area would check on us. And then a 3rd one just because. US restaurant service could learn a thing or two from this place. I don't even know how they were able to accomplish this with full tables but they did. It makes you think, "Are they really treating every single table with this level of service? I didn't even have a reservation." But due to overall experience I had, I'm pretty confident they do. Amazing drinks too. I love how big the pours are on the Sangria are too. You'll definitely feel something after you get out of your seat. They even do a Cava one if are into bubbles. Me and my girlfriend tried every Sangria on the menu so just know they are all good. I personally thought the Cava one was the best due to how unique it was. For similar reasons I also feel like the Duck Paella is the best Paella I've had in Spain. And I do want to give the disclaimer that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Seafood Paella that they do. It also is fantastic. But there is something so comforting about the flavor of the duck juices cooking with the rice, mushrooms, and peppers that make for such an amazing experience. All we see in the California Bay Area is the same ole tried and true Seafood version. So thats what made this dish so special to me. That and Garlic Foam that turns you into a Paella-addict. If you come Barcelona or Spain for that matter, and are looking for a good restaurant, Arume should be at the top of your list. read more

Location isn't the greatest but the food is totally worth it! I would recommend the seafood paella and the cheesecake. Both are amazing! Best paella in my opinion. Service is always good and cool vibe! read more

This place a bit away from the main streets and the sign isn't too noticeable. I was able to make a reservation right away for the same day for lunch since it was still early. However, when we got there the tables were already full. Highly suggest you make a reservation. Now, on to their paella. Their famous duck paella is very tasty but not the traditional paella flavor. I swear the rice tasted like it had soy sauce. Never know. Fusion these days. The seafood paella was okay. It was good but again not the traditional paella flavor. So we ordered two servings of the seafood but it only came with 3 shrimp. So one serving has one and a half of a shrimp? The steak tartare was a nice surprise. If I didn't read the menu, I would have thought it poke. It had just enough heat to say a little spicy??? But just a hint. read more
