The worst front desk experience of my life…read more I called ahead to ask when the open gym ends, and they said "maybe at 12, maybe at 2, just come here and find out". I still went there, for them to tell me they close at 12. They handed me a flyer and said "just check these hours next time". I read the flyer, which says their open gym closes at 10:55am. Outside of just plainly telling me the wrong time in multiple ways, they also did not let me in. They refused to look up my membership by phone number to check me in, and rudely said "go back home, and come back with your membership" They said "you can pay $5 to get a new membership if you lost your card". I agreed, seeing as that was my only option. They said "well, since you didn't actually lose it, we can't do that for you. You just have to bring your membership card next time, there's nothing else we can do".

Called 9/5 to ask when volleyball open gym was and they said Saturday, 9/6 at 12:00 pm. I came at…read more9/6 at 12:30 pm and they said the badmin players forgot it was volleyball so they just let the badminton ppl have it..and no volleyball that day. Wasted my time rushing from a previous event on Saturday to come just to find out it was cancelled with no update til after I spent so much time looking for parking. Wasted my Saturday.

Not carrying a purse, but a giant backpack stuffed full of snacks and extra clothes? It's me. I'm that mom. All of the Seattle area tot playtimes have different times and days set for them, so it's a toss up which one my son and I will be able to make, if we choose that for our activity of the day. I normally go to the Rainier Beach Community Center, but tot playtime wasn't open that day. Hence our visit to the Rainier Community Center! Their tot playtime is Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 am - 1 pm. Basically, they convert one of their large gyms to a padded play land suitable for kids 5 and under. And, it's completely free! I like going to these play times because it exposes my 8 month old son to other kids and people. He's in his "stranger danger" phase, which is great but I also don't want him to be shy 100% of the time. He's also in the mix of learning how to crawl, and the play times offer huge, padded open spaces that make a great way for him to practice. They've got bleachers for the parents/caregivers to sit on which is nice. They've also got an attendant or two roaming the room at a time to watch for any kids who try and escape or to make sure nobody leaves anything behind on their way out. My only gripe with this location was that a TON of the toys they had out didn't have batteries (I get it, they're expensive) which means they've got about 50% of the normal appeal they would for any child. I also noticed quite a few of the toys my son tried to go for had food (at least that's what I hope it was) crusted in the handles/crevices like they hadn't been cleaned in a while. For what it is, this is a great activity and center to take your little ones to if you're on the hunt for simple, free fun!

They hold events that are basically community building... in this case, they held an event for Zeno, called Mathfest. I was in two parts of the facility. 1. The main gym, which was also where all the activites were held, is a great large facility, with lots of lights and space to do just about everything. I think for general use, I love the ease to get tables and chairs, I think it's truly a great place for basically any community focused event. 2. The kitchen, where I become impromptu kitchen boss... is excellent for making pretty much anything you can think of, they have a respectible workspace, and I think if you have a lot of food to be made, this works. okay, shorty review, but I don't normally do these types of review, but I think that there are great things that these places do, and knowing that if I ever had a child, maybe there are places for them to just have fun, makes the world just a little better.

They offer a variety of drop-in programs including yoga, Chinese dance, Chinese meditation, and table tennis. We paid $3 to use their gym and it was definitely well worth the price of admission! Inside the small gym, there were a couple of step machines, treadmills, and weights. Perfect for those of us that like to keep the exercise simple! For those of us who are bookworms, check out the Seattle Public Library branch connected to the community center. There is a small collection of DVDs, fiction, and non-fiction to keep your mind fed after working on your body. Check it out!

This centralized gathering hub brings me back to camps and baggy pants and looney tunes shirts, breakdancing, Massive Monkey and free food. Every time I walk by the big hall by the entrance I am engulfed with memories of parties and food. I can smell the lumpia and pancit, barbacoa, Ezell's, Costco pizza, and home made ribs bought from Viet Wa and smoked. The ever lasting smell of Red Apple sides and Delite bakery empanadas and pastries further add to the memories. I remember randomly being invited to a Nigerian celebration and ate fufu balls, fish, and stews. Delicious! I appreciate the multigenerational care at Jefferson. It's a center where no one goes hungry, community looks after one another, and preschoolers to the ARC programs are supported. Yesler is a close second in Seattle for CC and Chinatown is third. Each has a special place in my heart and I appreciate everyone at Parks.

Included in the expansion are new staff offices, interior and exterior public restrooms, activity rooms, and a large dividable multipurpose room with a small adjoining commercial kitchen. The center is surrounded by a landscaped lawn with lots of trees and flowers, a public art installation outside the front entrance, two basketball courts sponsored by the Sonics/Storm Team Foundation, a wading pool, children's play area, a covered picnic area and BBQ grill. This is located 1 block west of Queen Anne Ave N on top of the hill and the building south of McClure Middle (Jr. High when I went) School and is easily mistaken as part of the school. I learned soccer at the play field, Little League Baseball, and basketball in the gym. I learned to swim next door at the QA Aquatic Center. There is an outdoor playground, 3 baseball diamonds, and playfields (soccer usually). Locals call the playfield "Big Howe" although there is a sign on QACC that says "West Queen Anne Field House." Anybody who lives on QA that hasn't used QACC didn't grow up here. Lots of activities for all ages from toddlers to seniors. They have art classes, exercise, dance, martial arts, serve meals, etc... My kid attends the Fresh Air Preschool here and the Director has a Montessori certificate. 1 teacher per eight students and it's very affordable. They have MWF or TuTh. If they had a hotel here the Village People would've made a song: "It's fun to play at the QACC!"

They also have a room full of toys, huge play kitchen, puzzles, tumble mats and more. Fresh Air Preschool is the best - you can choose 2 days/week, 3 days/week, or 5 days/week. Very affordable and the teacher is Montessori certified. Both of my kids attended and loved it there - she does a fantastic job with social, emotional, and cognitive learning. School age care is also fantastic. They always seem to pack in so many activities for the kids and make it all look so effortless. We were usually pulling our son away when it was time to go. The adult pottery class is a must try - huge room to work in, lots of wheels, tools, etc. Best part is you can use the room ANY TIME the community center is open while taking classes. The weight room is also open any time and offers drop in or a low monthly fee. This place is a must if you live near!

But from the details they have posted there - they've got a pool, gym, dedicated exercise rooms etc. It's well maintained. Got a chance to interact with couple of staffs there during the break - nice people and great conversations.
