The trees are super fresh, the people there are very nice and courteous​ and the prices are good. We selected our tree and a garland, went into the little greenhouse to pay, and they cut the tree and put everything in/on our car - fast and secure all while they're having a good time joking with customers. I liked that they also offer free hot chocolate & coffee and that you could easily look through the trees that were sorted by type (noble fir, ...). I would definitely come back next Christmas to get a tree! (Ours is still up and looking great on January 3rd, after weeks of being in our living room!) I think it's important to give back to the community and if it's that easy and pleasant - count me in! I'm also curious to see what else they do at the centro during the year.

I've taken her to Queen Anne Community Center, Jeferson Community Center and she's been here several times and Trina threatened to have me escorted by the police. The center is situated at the edge of the New Holly neighborhood, which primarily consists of housing, but also includes a branch of Seattle Public Library, satellite campus of South Seattle Community College, and other community buildings. The newly renovated and facility re-opened in 2007, more than doubling the size of the old center. The building features lots of windows in the lobby area and multipurpose room. Included in the expansion are new staff offices, interior and exterior public restrooms, activity rooms, and a large dividable multipurpose room with a small adjoining commercial kitchen. The center is surrounded by a landscaped lawn with lots of trees and flowers, a public art installation outside the front entrance, two basketball courts sponsored by the Sonics/Storm Team Foundation, a wading pool, children's play area, a covered picnic area and BBQ grill. The expanded center accommodates activities such as teen programs, classes, after-school programs, community meetings, weddings and seniors programs, a drop-in fitness room, basketball/sports gym, after-school child care, summer day camps and free WiFi access. After walking around a bit we saw they had volleyball teams playing and offer swimming at the pool as well. We were able to take advantage of all they offer here for just $5 per person per day. You can also do a monthly pass for $24 but we are not from the area. As we are in a heat wVe, I am very much looking forward to swimming later this evening. This is a nice facility that offers much to the community and I am so glad we had a chance to check it out!

There is a day use fee but they offer punch cards for regular use. The gym is huge. Has upper seating area. It is 3 basketball courts they place baby gates between for multiple classes. Jazzercise is going on at one end while my daughter has volleyball at the other end. The coach struggles to talk over the music of that other class. It is carpeted as well. They have lots of kid classes available here. And there are some classroom areas, so things like Tai Chi can happen in a less loud environment, but it's not perfect. There is a walking track around the gym upstairs but it costs to walk ....$3. I like this place b/c they offer classes my kids want to try. Younger kids have plenty of sports leagues to enjoy. They have a gym and you can get a good workout here without joining a gym elsewhere. It's nice when the community center is clean and offers a lot. We enjoy utilizing this place. They do not charge extra for non city residents like most of the cities around here.

I've officially become one of "those moms." Ya know... The ones that cover their unshowered hair…read morewith baseballs caps hopping from tot playtime to tot playtime? Not carrying a purse, but a giant backpack stuffed full of snacks and extra clothes? It's me. I'm that mom. All of the Seattle area tot playtimes have different times and days set for them, so it's a toss up which one my son and I will be able to make, if we choose that for our activity of the day. I normally go to the Rainier Beach Community Center, but tot playtime wasn't open that day. Hence our visit to the Rainier Community Center! Their tot playtime is Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 am - 1 pm. Basically, they convert one of their large gyms to a padded play land suitable for kids 5 and under. And, it's completely free! I like going to these play times because it exposes my 8 month old son to other kids and people. He's in his "stranger danger" phase, which is great but I also don't want him to be shy 100% of the time. He's also in the mix of learning how to crawl, and the play times offer huge, padded open spaces that make a great way for him to practice. They've got bleachers for the parents/caregivers to sit on which is nice. They've also got an attendant or two roaming the room at a time to watch for any kids who try and escape or to make sure nobody leaves anything behind on their way out. My only gripe with this location was that a TON of the toys they had out didn't have batteries (I get it, they're expensive) which means they've got about 50% of the normal appeal they would for any child. I also noticed quite a few of the toys my son tried to go for had food (at least that's what I hope it was) crusted in the handles/crevices like they hadn't been cleaned in a while. For what it is, this is a great activity and center to take your little ones to if you're on the hunt for simple, free fun!

Auburn Library is one of those places that still feels genuinely useful, which sounds like a low bar until you realize how many public spaces forgot the assignment. It is quiet, comfortable, and actually set up in a way that makes it easy to focus. You can use the Wi-Fi, sit and work, read, or just be there for a minute if your day needs a softer landing. I notice lighting and flow everywhere I go, and this place works. Nothing feels fussy, nothing feels chaotic, and the whole setup makes staying a while feel easy. my daughter would be perfectly happy disappearing into a corner with a stack of books, and my son would need the usual pre-conversation about library volume, but that is a parenting issue, not a library issue. What I like most is that it still feels like a community space, not just a building that happens to hold books. Go if you need to get work done, need a quiet reset, or just want somewhere calm that does not ask anything from you.
